Winter Wonderland

I was very surprised to wake up to more snow this morning.....what surprised me even more was that the schools were closed one more day. My teacher friend said she has worked in the District for 11 years and this is the first time she can remember that she didn't have to report to work. She was as surprised as me that the children were out another day. Anyway, I only ended up with three little children, and that is because their parents work at home and didn't have to venture far. Yesterday, I had one lone child. It was interesting. His attention for being outside lasted all of 10 minutes and so that didn't work out very well. We stayed inside and cleaned the toy room, so it was very productive. We had lots of breaks too, as we had to read some books, colour, and play hide and seek, as well as get some snacks and lunch.

Miracle #4 works at the Golf Course so he has had two Snow Days as well. He spent all morning yesterday and today shoveling the driveway. He has also made a great little "luge" in our front yard that the children have really enjoyed. He's had lots of fun in our Winter Wonderland too.

I went to watch the Canucks lose to the Dallas Stars last night and traffic was fairly decent going into town. The roads were mostly just wet, so the journey itself was easy, it's just too bad that we lost again. Tonight I am off to see the Giants play and that will hopefully be a better result!

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

It is always so beautiful when it snows out. And it is very beautiful outside this morning. It really doesn't look like there is an end in sight but the weatherman does claim it will stop by this afternoon. So far, I have had four cancellations, I am sort of expecting two more but you never know. I do know that we won't be going to Music this morning, as I am not going to risk it. The one thing that the radio keeps stressing is that if you don't have to go out in it then please don't. I do know that I can manage quite fine, but the other drivers are not near as cautious. Soooo, it's a bit of a mystery as whether I will be working today or not. Time will tell.

Getting out and about

Had a date with my husband last night. Can't believe that he took me into Vancouver on a weeknight, but he did and we had a wonderful time. Went to see the Canucks beat the St. Louis Blues. We were given tickets by a very good friend, and we would like to thank him very, very much. I have never sat at GM Place only 15 rows from the ice, and it was a very wonderful treat. A different perspective.......and it was very fun and very entertaining. Just as the game began, my very, very tall seatmate turned to me and said, "Just so you know, I am from St. Louis, born and raised, I am here on business and I will be cheering for the Blues." No problem, he was really funny. Kept telling me that his team wasn't really very good and they had a terrible power play. Gave me all sorts of tips on his players and I quite enjoyed his knowledge. I never did find out his name, but his wife and he are expecting a baby son in a month, so this will be his last trip out of town until Samuel arrives. It will be the first grandson for both families and they are all really excited. Nice young man............I will never see him again and he was a lovely fellow.

It was my 2nd night out this week, as I went to 27 Dresses on Monday night with my girls, and we had a really nice evening. Good movie, if you like chick flicks, and I do. There is actually quite a few movies that I want to see right now, so I think I should make more dates.

The elliptical has been used every day since it arrived, and I am really enjoying the fact that I can just get on and go whenever I want. Granted, my legs are a little stiff and sore today, so I probably won't use it today. So far, I am extremely pleased with my purchase.

News Travels Fast

We bought an elliptical trainer yesterday, it was something that we had been considering for awhile. I found one that I really quite liked, the price was right and it seemed like a very good purchase. I didn't know that it would take most of the afternoon and into the evening to put it together, but as of 11:00 last night, I am the proud owner of a piece of exercise equipment. I've tried it out but still need to read some more instructions to have it all figured out. It even has video games programmed in, so I thought that was rather funny. Anyway, it was quite a conversation piece for all of the miracles. We told one, who told another, who told another and then the phone calls kept coming. "Can we use it too?" They are really quite excited, and so am I. I think it will get a lot of use......at least that is the plan.

Saturday

We started today at the chiropractor and my hips were torqued back to where they are supposed to be. I feel sooooooo much better now, and that was just a great way to start a weekend. I spent 3 hours at the hairdresser, as I was in desperate need of a cut and colour. Had an interesting chat with my hairdresser about hair pigmentation. I really want to know why the white/gray hairs stick straight up. I believe that I have very strong hair anyways, but why are the ones with absolutely no colour even stronger than the others? And where do the new curly/kinky ones come from? She really didn't have the answers.

Had a lovely dinner at The Frogstone Grill in Coquitlam. I had my favourite quesadilla with their fabulous guacamole and Hubby had a steak. It was courtesy of a gift certificate from Christmas, so it was free and it was delicious. Thank-you very, very much M and L!!!

Went to watch my Canucks lose to the last team in the league. Don't know what the problem was, but we seem to do very badly against Marc Crawford and his LA Kings. Hubby said as we were leaving that it was a lousy game, but I disagreed. The end result was lousy but the game was actually very, very entertaining. And that is what we pay for is the entertainment.....I would really like them to win them all, but it really can't happen that way. Better luck next time, boys!!!

Bowling and Shopping

So, I am moving awfully slowly today......thanks to going bowling on Saturday night. Sixteen family members went, it was awfully fun, but I think I need to get into shape. No, I know I need to get into shape. My hips hurt. Which causes my back to hurt. Which means I am moving very slowly today. At least my arm and shoulder are fine. Hubby has a sore arm, shoulder, back and hips. I hope we can wait for our chiro appointments on Saturday.......I think I can, I think I can, I think I can........

Shopping was very fun. #3 and I hit Coquitlam Centre, the first time since pre-Christmas and it was most enjoyable. The crowds have definitely thinned out. We spent 5 hours there and it just flew by. I am disappointed with the baby departments though. We don't know the sex of the baby and there are very few things out there that are nice that aren't gender specific. Everyone must know what they are having as there is a very limited supply of white, yellow or green. And to be honest, it was rather ugly. So, we decided to wait and go to the States. I think we at least need to check it out. Made a date for February, and we will go and shop until we drop. My niece is graduating and really wants to go look at grad dresses, so we incorporated a weekend to have some fun and spend some time with the family. I am really looking forward to it!

Cousins

We had a family birthday party to attend on Sunday and we actually got all 9 cousins in one place at one time. Kinda sad to think that we all live in the Fraser Valley, but there is always one or two missing, as they all have such busy lives. I think it just makes us more grateful for when we do have get-togethers. We were missing one cousins' husband, but had the new son-in-law and future daughter-in-law there so we did take a lot of pictures. This is probably my favourite, but it's hard to believe that we are actually starting a new generation. Miracle #3 is already six months pregnant, and this all started from my mom and dad who eloped in 1957. (ok, I know it really started before that, I could go back 2 more generations to my great-grandparents who were born in the 1800's but that is a long way back to remember. That is as far back as I can record) These immediate first cousins and their partners span one generation of 20 years. The oldest is 30 and the youngest is 10. It was a very fun afternoon.

The First Week of 2008

It's a bit of a blur. Watched some World Junior hockey games, Canada won the gold medal.....but not without a few nerve-wracking moments.....silly boys! We had Chinese food with the family on New Years Day, I worked Wednesday through Friday, they were very mellow days. Happy children, we played and skipped and built train tracks and marbleworks. Had some music time on Friday, but it was a very relaxed easy time. The weekend was full of chores, as well as my nephews 13th birthday celebration. Hubby made dinner, he vacuumed, I am doing the laundry and I think it will be an early night.
