Almost 4 months old.....21 lbs 9.5 ozs

He is getting way too big, way too fast! I guess if this is what he does every time he goes out, then it is to be expected. He does sleep a lot, this is at the Maple Ridge Fair, then he went to IKEA and did the same thing, then last week we took him to Granville Island and he did the same thing, and then his mom took him to Kits Beach and he did the same thing. Likes to sleep, yes he does......likes to eat too, but not really as much as sleep. He is at an adorable age right now and has a really sweet personality. Drooling like crazy too, and we are wondering when that first tooth will come. Could be soon, maybe just never ever know!!

Half Way Through Summer!

I think that the rain is a welcome relief........I actually really like it. We have had such beautiful weather that I think it is only fair that the grass and the gardens get a good watering. It apparently rained on Sunday too, but we were in Birch Bay again and it was lovely there. A little bit cloudy in the morning but the sun came out by noon and we totally enjoyed the beach and the sand. Friends came first thing and we loved all the beach-combing, and the boys loved skim-boarding. We took my 14 year old nephew with us this time and it was fun, fun, fun. #1 and #4 came on Saturday until Monday, and they all had a wonderful time. We are sad that we don't have any more weekends booked, but hopefully Pat and Ken won't be able to go again and we will score some more time. Gotta love aunties and uncles that work too much!!!

I went to the fireworks last Wednesday and they were as fantastic as usual. This time we did it a little bit differently and and did a little dinner/cruise and watched them from English Bay. Now that was so fun and the company was so fun and it was really relaxing just floating into the Plaza of Nations at the end of the night. Really interesting to watch all the police motorcycles and street cleaners swoop down Beach Drive so very late in the night when all the party-goers had made there way to their various modes of transportation. Loved it!!!!

Work has been slow lately as a lot of the families have had some holidays. Last week was particularly easy and we had some company for lunch one day.......8 little boys were here, 5 of them were under 19 months. It was Baby Central and we all had a really nice time. I just LOVE that any secret?

Baby has been here a fair amount and we babysat him on Thursday night. He is a mommy-suck........those are #2's words and he is right. So attached to his mommy right now, just wants to be safe in her arms. Cute, cute, cute!!! She is feeling a little bit bad about it but I think it is pretty normal. So when she left him for an hour to do a quick errand, he cried for 25 minutes, just because he really knew that she was gone. Grandma and Grandpa just laughed at him and I finally got a clue and took him outside to talk to the trees and so I felt very brilliant when it worked. Grandpa just needed a stroller and after like one minute, he forgot what he was so sad about and just looked at all the trees in the breeze. Such a little cutie, and when his mommy and daddy came back, he was as happy as could be. Daddy gave him a bottle, and he slept really good that night. #3 says she should let him have a good cry every night!! LOL

Today is a rainy day and we will be indoors but I am really looking forward to just staying put. We have a few boys playing LEGO right now and there are 2 little girls having fun with The Littlest Pet Shop. A third is now knocking at the door, so I really should get back to work!!

Summer Days

Summer is going by so fast!! Here it is half-way through the week already........of course, if I am not going to work on Mondays, then it is such short week too!!

Birch Bay was marvelous.......we had so much fun with new friends. And we found The C Shop that everyone keeps talking about, but first we had the most fabulous dinner......barbequed hamburgers, mexican salad, and potato wedges. We really didn't even get back to the trailer until almost 10 pm and by then it was almost bedtime. I ventured out for my big walk and only made it 11 km, but I was still happy with that. It's just that I thought it was way farther to the State Park than it actually was, so I had to turn around and backtrack. And by the time I backtracked past the trailer twice, my stomach was growling and breakfast seemed more important. We did walk almost 2 km on Saturday night, so if you add that with my 11, it was actually 13, but I know it's not the same.

#4 and went out for breakfast at a wonderful little coffee shop, where we shared a blueberry scone that was just out of the oven and it was to die for.......yummy!! I had a mexican frittata and he had a bacon and egg croissant, but the coffee was delish and the scone even better. We will definitely be going back. And as we watched the eagles soar and we sipped on coffee, I just can't imagine a better way to start the day. After our scrumptious meal, he was determined to learn how to skim board and I really enjoyed watching him out in the Bay. He fell a couple of times and I had a good laugh, but his perserverence paid off. By the end of an hour and especially after 2 hours, he was very accomplished.

We went to Bellis Fair and to Burlington to do some shopping and I know that we will be going back........too many good deals and just not enough time. Hubby and I are going back this weekend for our required 48 hours to do some serious damage and bring back our duty-free. All I bought this time was a few thing from Carters and some toys for the daycare, #4 had some DVD's and a book, and our border guard thought absolutely nothing of our $125 that we came home with after only one day. We have been really lucky with the border guards lately and not one of them have been snarky at all. The one on Monday didn't look any more than 19 but he was very congenial and we were through in a mere 30 seconds. PTL!!

Yesterday was ever so fun too, as I got paid to hang out on Granville Island all day!! We went on a field trip and #3 and I managed to entertain an almost 3 year old and almost 5 year old without a whole lot of effort. Kids Only Market, the ducks, geese, pigeons, and seagulls would have been more than satisfactory, I know, but the Aquabus and the Spray Park were very fun too. Baby learned how to be a big boy in his stroller and he can sit in it all strapped in so he was very, very pleased with himself. Summer is very, very fun!!!

How Majestic is His Name!!

These are just a few of the pictures I have taken at Birch Bay in the last few weeks. God is so good!!! I am so excited because I am going back today for an overnighter and it is another beautiful day to embrace. I have an 11th birthday party in Langley first, and then #4 and I are Birch Bay bound. We will get the keys to the trailer from #2 and his wife, as they have been there all weekend, and then they will head back to Canada and we will come back tomorrow evening. So fun!! It is just so darn relaxing down there and I plan to finish my Book Club book while I laze on the beach or in the trailer. I have a 12 km walk scheduled in for tomorrow morning as there is just nothing like walking with the beach beside you and God's glory at it's best. I wish I was this motivated when I walk the streets of Maple Ridge, but it truly is not the same. I do like to walk, but it just feels better when the sea air and the beauty of the beach is beside me. Call me a little bit pampered!! (and yes, I do go to the dikes in Maple Ridge, but only in the evening.......I like my morning walk better)

Yesterday was one of those crazy Saturdays!! We left the house at 10 in the morning and came back in around 9:30 last night. Now we did drop off groceries at 5:30, but then it was a mad scramble to get out the door as I was greeting at church last night, and I am going again this morning. We joined some friends at Red Robin for an after-church dinner and I had the Mesa chicken salad. I recommend it highly, as it was delicious!!! Chores all day, church, dinner and then I almost fell asleep in front of the tv about 10:30. Such a great weekend we are having, and it just keeps getting better and better!!

A Good Day.....

......for a Friday. The sun has disappeared and that is quite nice. We were able to get out to the Froggie park this morning and the only way that I could get everyone to want to leave is to bribe them with McDonalds. Wasn't a hard treat motivated, this little gang of mine. I know that I, myself, am extremely it worked well for all of us today.

But we really did have a fun few hours, digging in the bark mulch, swinging and building forts. O brought a basketball and the 4 boys played forever in the tennis court with that.....and they had my good ole Nerf football that was ever so fun too. I met a really lovely lady and her 15 month old who was very anti-daycare until she met me, and when she left she got my name and number. Too funny!!! Her little girl stays with Grandma but isn't all that stimulated, so after she watched us in action, then she even admitted that Daycare would be way more fun. My little 3 month old grandson loves Daycare too as let's face it, kids love kids. And they learn so much from each other that adults just cannot and will not do. Especially old much as I agree with the grandparents helping out, I will never agree with grandparents taking care of grandchildren 5 days a week. It takes the fun out of grandparenting and spoiling them rotten. And after taking care of children for as long as I have taken care of children, I have figured out that the bad behaviours really only start if your child/ren are with someone for more than 4 days a week. They just get way too comfortable, and old people do get boring when you are a little person. Children need children, the same as adults need adults. It teaches us all better social skills!

I'm baaaaaack!!!

And what a wonderful weekend it was!! Block Party on Saturday night was everything that I could have hoped for......good food, good friends and most of all good laughs. Hard to believe that we have really lived in this house for 20 years. Went by as fast as smoke through a keyhole.......

#4 and I headed for Birch Bay yesterday morning and were at the trailer by 9:30. No traffic, no border line-ups and a really, really nice border guy. He was just way too nice, all he asked was one question and sent us on our way. Cool! Did a quick grocery shop in Lynden, went for a beautiful walk on the beach for 2 hours, had lunch, he went to the waterslides and I read my book, we went out for dinner, he played some more in the water and then we watched The Bucket List. It was a tremendous movie and I recommend it highly......that's where I got my smoke/keyhole reference above. Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman.....need I say more!

I was up walking down Birch Bay Drive by 7:30 this morning, we had a quick breakfast and coffee, and then headed to Bellis Fair for a few hours. We did lots of damage there in less than four hours.....(I just love, love, love my 5 new pairs of shoes!) and then went back to the trailer and relaxed for a wee bit. #4 went back in the water while I read a magazine on the beach and then it was time to clean up the trailer and head out. We stopped at the go-karts before we headed back to Canada, and again, had a really nice border guy and he asked us 3 questions and sent us on our way. Stopped by Baby's house to give him some new diapers and bibs.....found out he is now 20lbs 3ozs.....we had a quick cuddle and came home. We had leftovers for dinner and it is already time to think about tomorrow. We feel like we have been away a long, long time, and we had a really, really fun time!! Can hardly wait for 2 weeks and we really do get to go back!!!

I am perfect.

That is what my dr. told me yesterday......#3 was told the same thing by her dr. 2 hours later. We were rather amused, because we all know that nobody is perfect. But our bloodwork all came back completely normal and they aren't worried about anything. My blood pressure was good, my cholesterol was good, my iron levels were good, my thyroid levels were normal, my liver function was good, my CT125 was good, my sugar levels were good, and on and on it went. So why can't I sleep? Went to bed last night around 11 and I was wide awake around 12:30. So here I sit, absolutely ready for the day, and it really doesn't start for at least 4 more hours. I really should be tired, but my guess is that it won't affect me until 2 or 3 this afternoon, I will have a 10 minute nap or a quick cup of coffee and I will be good to go for another 6 hours or so. I think that it is ridiculous!

I have had such a wonderful week. Lots of visits and entertaining of friends......lots of tea, not so much coffee, and one glass of wine with dinner last night. I think it must have been the wine that has me so keyed up in the middle of the night, as that is the only thing that I did differently to give me a more acute case of insomnia than normal. It does seem that whenever I drink wine, then I sleep even worse than usual. Or it could have been that cup of coffee yesterday that I added the French Vanilla to.......who really knows? All I know is that I am supposed to be sleeping. Everyone I know is sleeping. Even Baby and his mom are usually sleeping at this time of night. Maybe my naturapath is awake with her new babe but that is the only person that I could possibly think could be awake at this stupid time of the night. As you can probably sense, I think that I am rather frustrated by myself right now!!!!!

Today is going to be such a great day! I have a tea date at 9:30, a couple of morning appointments, one afternoon appointment.......I think I have to go check out Coquitlam Center as they have some great sales on at Please Mum and at Aritzia. Probably lots of other stores too, as I think it is around the time for their annual July sidewalk sale. I know that I am headed to the States tomorrow, but I really would rather spend my $$$ in Canada. I will have to hit Langley Farm market for some fresh veggies for my salad that I am bringing to the Block I do believe I will be able to squeeze in a nap if I need one. It's going to be a very, very, very good day!

I am so blessed.... be stressed. NOT!! But everyone else in my life sure seems to be right now. Employment issues, personal issues, and sickness seem to be plaguing the people that I know, but I just don't have any of that going on right now. We got a letter from the church this week, and that was very sad, but at the same time, very, very happy. Pastor Derrick is going back to Alabama to be with his family. We are losing yet another pastor and that makes me very sad but so excited for him and Laura. His son got married a few years ago and the arrival of future grandchildren.....and aging parents makes his decision an absolute no-brainer. But it is still sad for Burnett and all of us who love him and will miss him.

I am off to see the endocrinologist today and I am really looking forward to it. I had to do this way back in 1999 and I find specialists so helpful. I don't really believe that it is just my thyroid that is whacked is my pineal gland......which affects my pituitary, which also affects my pancreas and in turn wreaks havoc with my emotions and my hormones. I had a ton of blood taken last week and it will be very interesting to see what my body is up to these days. I am especially curious to see what my liver is doing as I got an interesting sleep deprivation email which had some great information in it. I know that it is not normal to be excited to go to the dr. but I really am!!!

So, it's now official......I am training for a half-marathon in October. Yikes!! I am overwhelmed.....and excited.........and scared........and exhilarated!! I think I am up for the challenge, but it really is only 3 months away and I am already behind where I should be by one month. Because I am walking, it is still ok, but that is just a little bit daunting. #1 is going to run the Half, my friend in Calgary is going to walk the entire 42K.......and I have set myself up for success. I am going to walk 21 km.......I have always wanted to try this and there is no time like the present!! My new walking group is fabulous and they will have me more than ready by October 12th.

It's been a busy week, and I am glad that the weekend is almost here. I am really looking forward to our friends from Waterdown coming for dinner tomorrow night. We have our 20 year neighbourhood Block Party on Saturday night and #4 and are headed to our overnighter to Birch Bay on Sunday. The weather is supposed to be great and I am really looking forward to shopping, reading, beaching and especially spending time with my 23 year old that I barely see any more. It's kinda hard to believe that we actually live in the same house, but our schedules are so different that we co-habitate but really don't see much of each other. It's going to be a fun weekend!!!

Happy Birthday to my SIL!!

We have been celebrating for days!! On Thursday night, we went out for Pasta Night at Pitt Meadows Golf Course, which seems to have become our new family tradition. As usual, they did not disappoint and it was absolutely scrumptious!!! On Saturday, there was a lovely barbeque, and now today he gets a roast beef dinner cooked by his mom and his wife. I think it's wonderful that he can get a birthday week out of the deal, or even a birthday month!! A lot has happened since his last birthday.....he has become a husband, a son-in-law and a daddy. He quit his job, he helped plan a wedding, he got a new job, and most of all he matured into the most loving, caring, compassionate, responsible human being. He has always had those character traits, but Baby has literally changed his life. I am proud to be his mom-in-law!!

The weekend just flew by! We went to IKEA twice to pick up new shelves for the den. I think we now have to call it The Library! I just love it, and Hubby and I had so much fun putting all of our books on it last night. I have always loved books, but they have always been scattered here and there, some in one room, some in another. Well, I do believe that most of our beautful treasures are proudly displayed on 3 floor to almost-ceiling bookshelves now. They are so beautiful and I am really beginning to love my new den/library. It's almost finished and I just adore sitting here. I think it is my new favorite spot!!

The End of June..... always bittersweet. The beginning of the end........of the school year, that is. I was admiring my hanging basket yesterday, enjoying all the new flowers and scents, and then via email, received pictures of very special people receiving very special accolades. The children work so hard, and their end-of-the-year celebrations and certificates validate all that. Have a great summer!! You all deserve it!!

Three months old today!

Baby is already 3 months old!!! And he weighs 19 lbs 6 ozs!!! What a big and healthy boy!!

Another summer day

Well, I am awake! I got up about an hour ago, I have checked my emails, done some Facebook, did a little bit of laundry and have just finished some time on the eliptical......and now don't really know what to do with myself. Should I go back to bed? Or should I jump in the shower and start my day. I am sooooo tired these days, and yet not really sleeping very well. I am quite wide awake right now, but children don't arrive until 8 so that gives me 2 hours to entertain myself. I started my new book last night and it is really good......Book Club is tomorrow and I think I should finish it without any problem as it is very short and very good. Kabul Beauty School.....I have only read the first chapter but it looks like a good read.

Baby and his family have gone back home, as of about 9:30 last night. The weather has definitely cooled off, as it rained most of the night with thunder and lightening in the distance. Kinda grey out there and my Channel 11 news just said it was not going to be sunny today. Too bad, as I would really like to go to the park......we will see, the weatherman has been wrong before.

I am considering doing a half-marathon in October. A friend facebooked me the other day and she needs a training buddy. She lives in Calgary but the marathon is in Kelowna and we would message and support each other from afar and then meet up in the middle. Miracle #1 is extremely interested and she is in a position to actually do it. I am in such bad shape right now, and she just ran 20 km yesterday just because she felt like it. Always runs 10 k, and decided to double her route just for the fun of it, and of course succeeded. I, at this point, know that I could walk 10 or 15k easily, but if I am really going to do it, then I need to walk some I don't injure myself. Irregardless, it looks like I am going to Kelowna for Thanksgiving weekend, even if it is to clap and cheer.

Hubby is calling, I want him to help me move my new train table into the bedroom, so I had best get going while the going is good!

July 2, 2008

J came by yesterday to show us her 3rd Place medal that she won at Regionals with her softball team. Baby was here too, and she got to love him and hold him......she thought he was heavy, and at very close to 19 pounds, she is very right!

We had such a great Canada Day! We went into town and enjoyed some of the festivities that Maple Ridge put on and that was very fun. Watched a very sweet 5 year old dance at The Act and she was ever so cute. The Dance Circle performed a mere 45 minutes in the day and we were able to enjoy Acro with J, and as an added surprise, one of the ballet numbers was performed by one of my previous daycare friends who is 12 and a very good ballerina. Hit Zellers for a few things and then came home and did some more chores. Little J came by for a quick visit and she enjoyed our "heavy" baby. We told her that she was 18lbs when she was a year old, so when she was this size, she was already walking! We went to a wonderful Canada Day party with our dutch friends, where we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and ate too much and laughed too much. We sang O Canada with 60 or so other "friends" and it was an early night for everyone as most people have to work today.

Came home just before 10pm and #1 and #4 were scarfing down food after their Grouse Grind expedition......Baby and his family came back to spend the night........and we thought about #2 and his wife who had gone to the States for their Canada Day. Everyone was accounted for and we headed to bed around 11.

Happy Canada Day!

We made a cake for Canada Day!
I love this picture of Baby! He and his family have moved in right now because of the heat.....and I feel very, very blessed! His house is so hot that they say that they have trouble breathing upstairs where the bedrooms are, and we have A/C. The daycare children and I were able to watch him have a bath yesterday and he just loves it so much. We had lots of giggles when he splashed everyone!
