Girlfriends

Aren't girlfriends the best? My friend bought this snorkeling gear at Costco for her and her husband, and when she heard that I was going to Hawaii and was going to rent gear, she kindly offered this to #4 and me. It hasn't even been opened and she was so willing to share and let us use it first. She is one of my very best friends and I appreciate her so very much. Her daughter has lent me her 2 books to read on our trip too and they look brand new, so that takes a lot of trust and a lot of love to be that way. We will take very, very good care of all of this, and I am ever so grateful. I am going to read Twilight and New Moon. I have heard that they are good and with 2 five and a half hour flights scheduled, not to mention the airport waiting, I am sure that I can read them both this week. I've bought some other books to read on the beach too, so I am set!
I have been living on Robitussin Total for the last few days. The sneezing came on full force yesterday and I really don't feel 100%. but I am not getting any worse. If I just wasn't so darn excited, then perhaps I could sleep better and I know that would help immensely. I thought it was funny last night when I came and checked out Facebook at 2:30 am and found 3 of my friends weren't sleeping either. Talked to a lady at the pre-school and she said she had trouble sleeping last night too. Must be something in the air! The good news about feeling so poorly in the last couple of days is I have been on the "I'm not hungry, I don't feel like eating" diet and I have lost 3 pounds. Add that to the 4 I lost last week and that makes it a total of 7 in the last 10 days. Now I could probably afford to live off the land for at least 2 months but that's not really healthy so I would never do that. I do need to lose some weight, that's a gimmee, but I like it when I don't have to work so hard at it. I have been drinking lots of fluids and eating really healthy choices as that is what I do when I am not feeling hungry. I know that I have to eat, as that is the only way that I am going to get better. And next week it will be so easy to eat all the fresh tropical fruits and soak up all that warmth and sunshine. For the past week it has been 25 degrees and sunny in Honolulu so that is absolutely perfect!! Miracle #4 and I are very, very excited and ask you for your prayers for a safe and relaxing holiday!!!!

Visitors

It's been a fun couple of days. We had visitors on Tuesday, and it was so fun to get these little guys together. Chase is only 1 month older than Baby and he is a cousin.......although very far removed. He has 2 older brothers so he is around children ALOT; his interest wasn't as much as our Baby, but the two little boys were very interactive with one another. They were really cute to watch and we had lots of laughs. My favorite moment was when Baby body-slammed little Chase and Chase just giggled. Our baby wasn't being mean, he just out-weighs Chase by about 6 pounds so his curiosity got the best of him. We don't have a picture as we were busy saving the two boys from hurting one another.
Later on that day, J stopped by and she hadn't seen Baby for awhile. I used to take care of her from the time she was a baby until she was in Grade 4 and her big sis took over. Makes me feel old when I see all the little ones growing up so fast!
I have a cold, which I am not very happy about! Started with a scratchy throat on Tuesday (I actually thought it was aggravated by talking too much) and so took my vitamin C and figured I would be better by morning. NOT! It's a full blown cold, coughing, runny nose and body aches. I think the worst of it is over and I was probably quite foolish by going to the hockey game last night, but I do feel ALOT better today. Last night, not so much! We had a social night by going out for dinner at the Keg downtown, but what really did me in was walking from Coal Harbour to GM Place and back again. It was soooooo cold, and my lady friends were walking very briskly. Hurt my chest, but once I slowed them down a bit, I did feel a lot better. I remember running in Central Park 5 years ago and that's what the cold did to my chest then too. I am sure it would have been fine if I was feeling better, but this cold weather is way too cold for me. Snowed again on Tuesday and so that is 6 weeks with snow on the ground. 20 days of fog, according to the radio. I am soooooooo glad to be heading to Waikiki on Saturday. Only 2 more sleeps!! Woohoo!!!

More Playing!

He got this toy for Christmas and it's really noisy and fun! A month ago, he was very interested in watching it and we had fun watching him. Now he knows how to catch the balls as they pop up, place them back in, and is almost to where he can push the button to make it go again. He will place his finger or hand on the button, but can't seem to quite press hard enough yet. Give him a couple of days and I am sure he will get it!

He plays!

Baby is almost 10 months old now and he and his family came over on Saturday night for a visit. He plays now, quite independently.........but I just love watching him and interacting with him. His dad made a comment about me making blog-worthy pictures, which is exactly what I was trying to do. I think we took close to 50 pics, some were good, some not so good. He's just so teachable right now and really learning about cause and effect. Such a cute baby boy!!!

A Crazy Sunday!

What an absolutely crazy, busy day! I am loving it, and I am just waiting for #3 to come and pick me up to take us to a jewelry party. We actually started the day rather calmly, but then headed off to teach Sunday School. 33 little people showed up today and the room is just not made for that many people. When the person who recorded the numbers came in to do his job, he decided to get Pastor Paul as we were over the adult to child ratio. They were all really well-behaved little children, but it was very, very loud. After finding out that we couldn't move a few over to the gym because they were at capacity as well, PP came back just in the nick of time to hear,"I have a tummy ache and I need to throw up." from a little girl who was about 5. First time we have ever seen her, and her first visit is very memorable. She was a good puker, according to PP, and very tidy and very efficient. He delivered her to her family and then stayed for crowd control........and it was great to have another adult to help out. It was a good class, just loud. And this was the Sunday that church got out at 11:23, so when he took charge and worked his magic that was wonderful too. I loved it when he got them all singing and participating........wish I had my camera as their faces were priceless when they were all singing My God is so Big and pretending to be animals. The monkeys were my favorite, but the lions were pretty great too!

Came home from church just before noon, (lots of clean-up today!) and then went directly to the grocery store. Lunch, them some visiting with friends. We went to see their brand new house and it was sooooooooooooo lovely. I could have stayed all day, we didn't though, and came home to make dinner and watch some of the All-Star game. It was really, really good.........kinda surprised me as they usually aren't this competitive. #1 and #4 have gone night skiing/boarding at one of the local mountains, #2 and his wife went to Whistler for a couple of days so they got to go skiing this weekend as well. It was a beautiful sunny weekend, just cold! I am sure they all have had great times..........I know that I have..........it's been a very busy, social couple of days.

It's been quite a week!

Baby cut 2 teeth this week and gave his parents some sleepless nights. He seems to really have trouble with the top ones, but he literally cut 2 in less than 24 hours of each other, one on the top and one on the bottom. Just one more on the bottom and he should get a little bit of a reprieve. (for a couple of months if they are lucky!)
This is a new trick......he always ends up on his bum, but it's like he really wants to stand up!

And the best news is that at nine and a half months, he actually learned how to crawl. He's not really very graceful as he thumps each hand down every time but it's just adorable to watch. He is soooooooo proud of himself!

We had him go up the hallway several times tonight, he actually worked up quite a sweat!

The Princess Kaiulani~It's calling my name!

I cannot believe how cold it is here! It is absolutely bone-chilling. The fog and the dampness are really getting to me, and so I did something very spontaneous today. Miracle #4 has been looking into going on a vacation. First he thought maybe a trip to Whitehorse to see a friend would be fun. After checking prices though, he decided that it was way too expensive to go and way too cold. So for a lesser price, he and I booked a trip to Hawaii today. Took advantage of a really great deal and we are off to Waikiki next week. Yes, that would be next week! In exactly eight days, we will fly off into the wild blue yonder..........how exciting is that?!?!!!

I am feeling rather blessed that my 23 year old son would even want me for a travel companion, but he and I get along very well and we have always travelled well together. He likes to have fun, and so do I. All of his friends are either working, going to school or too broke to go anywhere so he was actually thinking about going alone. He's quite independent that way and has no trouble being his own person and planning things as he goes along. As a matter of fact, he prefers it that way.........never been one for making long term plans, and does much better with short terms. As soon as this snow disappears, he will be back at work because his job is seasonal. Last year I think he was off for a month in the winter, this year it is already coming up to three. And as soon as Meadow Gardens phones and calls him back, he will have to be there ASAP, so if he was going to go away then he had to go and come back pretty much immediately. The deals through Westjet Vacations are really, really good right now and I think this is what is called a HOT DEAL at a HOT PRICE. I am loving the idea of being somewhere warm and having some fun in the sun! I can't wait!

Cool Pics!

It's still foggy and a friend just emailed these pictures that were taken in Vancouver a few days ago. I think they are very cool and I think we live in an amazing place! Fog sure makes it cold out though.......and I just want to live a little bit higher up so that I can have some warmth. I hear that it was 8 degrees on top of Burnaby Mountain yesterday!

Statistics

A survey by eHarmony and Harris Interactive stated that, Of 10,675 people, ages 20-54 who got married in 2006-2007:

-19.4% met online
-17.2 % made love connection through friends
-17.2% met their future spouse at work
-8.8% learned to love someone they met at school
-8.3% found romance at a party or other social gathering

I found that all very interesting. I used to be in the majority because I met my husband at work, but now we have slipped into a tie for second place. Computers are starting to rule! I have to wonder what the statistics will be on the divorce rate of all those on-line marriages, but we are already at 50%, and I think that too high........But it can definitely get higher. On a more positive note.........I went to Bride Wars last night and I recommend it. It was a great chick flick and I went out with some friends and we had a great night!

And I have something to look forward to now, as I got my birthday present early from Hubby. He's taking me to Vegas, and we leave in four weeks! I am so excited!!!

The Snow is Still Here

Well, it's been 5 weeks and it is still on the ground. Right now it is -5, foggy, and very, very slippery, but this picture was taken on Monday when it was just lovely out. The main roads are fine, but I really do think that my subdivision is one of the worst in Maple Ridge. O was just dropped off and her mom said that it's like a skating rink out there, until you get on the main roads. Good to know, as I don't have to be anywhere until noon and it will hopefully be sunny and warmer by then. The fog is rather dreary and I hope that it burns off.
Baby Chloe can roll over now.....she's 4 and a half months old already and weighs 18 pounds. She gained 2 pounds and 3 inches in a month!

Her mom gave her a teddy bear as incentive to show us that she could do it, and it took awhile but she did it! Roots of Empathy is going very well!!!

Tuesday, January 20th

It's been a busy few days, rather, few weeks! I know that January is supposed to go by really slow, but it seems to be zipping by for me.......I guess it's because I have had a lot going on.

The weekend was soooooooo fun! My Chiro appointment on Saturday helped out my shoulder ALOT, as I tripped going up the stairs going to a hockey game a few weeks ago. All of my weight ended up on my right shoulder, but I guess it popped into my rib. Didn't really feel too bad, but it didn't feel right either. Now I feel way better and it doesn't hurt at all any more. I use my right shoulder way more than I think I do, and now that it is healing properly, there isn't any discomfort at all. I scored breakfast at the White Spot, which ended up being lunch as it was almost noon. Did some errands, relaxed at home for abit and then met the whole H family for bowling and dinner. Too fun, and my shoulder didn't even get re-injured! Yay for me!

Hubby was very spontaneous on Sunday morning when he suggested that we go to Bellis Fair. I had been wanting to go for while, but when the snow arrived pre-Christmas, it just didn't seem like the right time to go. Well, Sunday morning was the right time to go. No border line-ups, no crowds at the Mall and a wonderful lunch at the Mongolian Grill. We arrived back in Canada just after 1 pm, did some browsing in Langley at Hubby's favorite store and took the Albion Ferry home. It was really nice just sitting in the sunshine while waiting and I think we made a good call, as the Patullo Bridge had had a fire and so that made the Port Mann very busy. We stopped at the vegetable store, and then went to watch some kids play hockey. The Atom game was excellent, but I don't really think that I like watching PeeWee. I am such a wuss, and there is so much hitting and because these are 11 and 12 year olds, the size difference is phenomenal. Some of these boys are under 5 feet and others almost 6 feet. It's just too unfair! Scored another dinner out and it was home to watch the Canucks get clobbered and get ready for the week.

The sun has been beautiful and warm in the afternoons, it makes the snow all sparkly! But it sure is cold at night! I went to funeral this afternoon, that's the second one in less than 2 weeks and that is 2 too many. I was supposed to go to a movie tonight, but I have been post-poned until tomorrow. My friend decided that she was too tired, so that means I will have to watch hockey instead. I am looking forward to tomorrow.......It's ROE Day and I am going to go see Bride Wars!

Learning new things every day!

The past two weeks have been so fun! Baby learns new things daily and his newest is that he likes grown-up food and likes to feed himself. He loves cheese, apples, chicken and fish, and it's fun to watch him explore his world. He's getting lots of finger foods and it is so cute to watch how co-ordinated those little fingers can be. He seems to really enjoy all his new tastes, especially if he can do it himself!
This is my sisters dog Spunky, and Baby really liked him!

Very tolerant of Baby......not too long after this, Baby tried to take his toy and then Spunky was not too impressed. But it didn't matter if he touched him and mauled him!

Chillin' with the cousins and his uncle. Male bonding....look how much Baby is loving it!

Churchill, Manitoba

I have relatives that live in Churchill, Manitoba. I went there when I was 11, but it was July and all I really remember is the icebergs in the Bay, and the huge mosquitoes and black flies. Winter is a whole different story. It was -50(with the windchill) there this week and they closed the schools for one morning. That's it, just one lone morning. It's was only -29 there yesterday and my cousin and her husband spend a lot of time outdoors, just walking, and enjoying God's handiwork. She takes tons of pictures and she is very good at sharing. I personally can't even imagine it, and I told her so. When I asked how one dresses for the absolute cold that she endures, she made sure to show me. These are some of the pics that I received today and I just love them! Note how small the trees are, that is as tall as they grow, because of the permafrost.
This is their dog, walking on the ice in the river.

My cousins husband, dressed for the elements. Note the vastness and the flatness of the land!

My cousin, all bulked up in her winterwear.

The Power Within...and other stuff

I am really disappointed that I can't go to this. http://www.powerwithin.com/ is coming to Vancouver on March 6th, and I would really love to hear Michael Phelps and Dr.Oz. Not to mention all of the other great speakers. I am already booked into another course that day, so it is not to be.

I went to the hockey game last night and had a wonderful time. The Canucks played terribly but it was very fun to get out with a friend and catch up on news. We laughed a lot at our seatmates who had many comments to make about how crummy Luongo and his gang were. I would love to repeat some of them, but they were a little off-colour. At one point the girlfriend of the funny guy told me I could slap him for being so rude, but I just thought he was funny!

Today is another foggy day. The paper keeps saying it is sunny and warm but we must live too close to sea level as it is just cold and damp. It will be interesting to see when the fog lifts, or if it does today. Sunny skies usually bring out the good moods in people and believe me, after yesterday, the children definitely need some sunshine. They were such grumpy little grouches, and so mean to their friends. I think I did more time-outs yesterday than I did in the entire month of December. Oh well, it can only get better! Different group today, different dynamics. I really do love my Fridays......and Mondays. They are the best!

My Best Boys!

I have a lot of boys in my life that I love and I care about, but these are the ones that I seem to spend the most time with. They are the neediest........of me. Hubby is a kid magnet.........when he was younger, he said it would have been nice to be a chick magnet, but God chose him to be a kid magnet instead. He loves children and is soooooooo good with them, I know that it is one of the reasons that I fell in love with him so many years ago. I love watching his interactions with babies and children, it's fun to see and watch and I love him for it!

And Baby just loves his grandpa dearly! He's such a smart boy! We are very lucky and get to see our grandson quite regularly, they live quite close and we get to be very hands-on. I like the bumper sticker, "If I knew that grandchildren were this much fun, then I would have had them first!" It is so true and he makes our hearts smile!

It's been 4 weeks!

On Wednesday December 17th, the snow started falling and falling and falling. It stopped for a bit and it started again. But the ground has now been covered for 4 weeks. I was so happy to see a private company grading and plowing at one of the local schools today. You can finally see over the mounds of snow, and you can almost parallel-park on some of the main roads.
This one was taken on January 8th, 3 weeks after the very first snowfall. The road to my house is still only one way. We have to go into each others' driveways for 2 cars to use the road. The plow at least made it down my road twice, but it was a pretty bad job both times. I would really like a job teaching people how to plow a road properly.......I don't want to get behind the wheel, I just want to tell them where to go! Haha!

I snapped this picture yesterday, there is actually a little bit of green showing, but the lawn is still covered. I am done with the snow now!! It's dirty and ugly and I can't believe how long it is taking to melt away.

It's a "panty party!"

We are celebrating today!! I promised little A that we would have party when she FINALLY was toilet-trained. She had to wear panties, and she had to keep them dry for more than 2 days! Well, she did it and I followed through. There are no children that come to Daycare right now who are in diapers........it's been a long time coming and I think the picture above tells how pleased that she is! Believe me, no one is happier than me........she is going to be 4 in May and we have been working on this for a while!
She chose the menu, and we bought our party food!

We bought balloons!

Took some pictures.....

And ate our lunch! It doesn't really take a lot to please 3, 4 and 5 year olds!!

Manipulation

Can you resist those eyes? We babysat on Saturday night, and this is our sweet little grandson just before midnight, manipulating his grandparents. He didn't want to go to sleep, so we let him stay up. We had company for dinner and every time he would drift off, I would put him in his crib and he would immediately wake up. Thought he was going to miss something. Rocking him and rubbing his back just didn't work, so we put him in his jolly jumper. He was perfectly happy, and when his mom and dad came to get him, he was wide awake and ready to go home. He slept through the night for them, had a very sleepy day yesterday to catch up and he was ready to go again. Some babies really need their routine, but this baby is extremely adaptable. He actually sleeps in when kept up late........and gets back into his schedule the next day. None of my children were like that. Especially the boys. If they went to bed late, then they were cranky the next day. We had a very stringent routine when they were little, and you could almost set a clock to them. Oh well, everyone is different! It's what makes the world go around!
I know that this one is a bit over-exposed, but I love that you can see his 3 bottom teeth! It's almost midnight, but he's still smiling!!!!

Cousins, 1 year later!

We just got back from a family birthday party, and all the cousins were there. I decided that we needed another picture of all nine cousins, their spouses and of course, the baby. And Baby makes 13! They range in age from 11 to 31 and we put them on the staircase from youngest to oldest. Baby is nine months and he is the beginning of a whole new generation, but only seemed right to include him! I am very impressed that all 13 of them are looking at the camera, and the only one that isn't smiling is Baby. We were quite the paparazzi, my sisters and my dad and I!!

Saturday, January 10, 2009

Oh, he's so cute!

So I posted some pictures of Baby on Facebook last night, and got 6 comments this morning. The general consensus is, as 5 out of the 6 comments were, "He's so cute." Not in those exact words, as every one was a little bit different. But, I thought that was funny. I agree wholeheartedly, but I am his grandma and I would think so no matter what.

Baby and his family came over last night to finish watching the hockey game, and to use our hot water. Their hot water tank broke yesterday and so #3 came to have a shower and bath the baby. And as usual, Baby is his entertaining self, and he has new things he learns daily. The hockey game was pretty good, until the last half of the third period. We had lots to cheer about, and Baby helps us now. Isn't he cute?!!! Don't know what the press will do to Sundin though (not to mention his coach) as he took a slashing penalty in the last few minutes of the game and St. Louis scored to make it 5-4, and then the next thing you know, it's 6-4. It's like the Canucks just gave up. To one of the worst teams in the league. Oh well, it's just a hockey game! I am sure that they are far more disappointed than we were!

YAY Canada!

Well, they did it again!! The 2009 World Juniors came to a close on Monday and the boys made it look a little easier than last year with a win against Sweden 5-1! Two of the goals were empty nets, and the media was extremely kind to our #1 Draft pick from 2008. Cody Hodgson did really well, and I think he will be a great asset to the Vancouver Canucks. We even taught Baby how to clap and cheer........it sounds alot like "EEEEEEEE" instead of Yay, but it is pretty cute!

Snow, Snow, Melts Away.....

.......and the rain is certainly helping the melting process. The rain came back, it feels normal again, but the puddles and the slush are plentiful. It is still mostly one way streets in the subdivisions, and the main roads have huge unplowed sides on them so that there is no street parking. Makes the school pick-ups and drop-offs rather treacherous, but we are managing better than most. Gotta take the positive attitude, but I think most people will be grateful when there is no more snow to complain about! I liked it, and I will like it when it is gone too.

I got my van back on Monday, so I was only housebound for one day. Funny how it is though, I haven't really been too far as the children are quite content to play and be with their friends. Role playing is big right now, and we keep pretending to go on vacation and picnics, and everyone is happy doing that. Most of the children have not been here since before Christmas and they are just content to be with each other, and play! I do love my job this week!!
Baby came over yesterday.......he had a very funny day, whereas he slept all night (he has been doing that more and more now, just not consistently) got up at 7:30, nursed and went right back to sleep until until his mommy woke him up at 11. By 2:00, he went back to sleep at my house and slept until 5:30. He and his family ended up staying for dinner and watching the hockey game and he was falling asleep in my arms by 9:30. He is teething right now, and obviously growing. I added a few fun pictures of him in his new duds from Christmas, and it kinda shows off his personality. Can't see the new top tooth that he got on Monday, but he worked very hard to get that one. And look!! No bib! He still wears one, but you can actually take if off for a few minutes at a time now.
