Summer is here!!

And wouldn't it be nice if we could all go around with as little clothes on as Baby. When he is at his house, he isn't really making lots of laundry right now. It's hot.....stinkin' hot out!! But I am enjoying the best investment we ever made and that is air conditioning. It is lovely indoors. Even cold during the evening. We went outside for some fresh air tonight and it really wasn't that fresh. So humid.........and really, really warm. Baby didn't care, but his mom and I complained anyway......it was at least 35 degrees. We spent some time playing on the grass....and some neighbours stopped by for a visit. One was so sweet and had picked some fresh vegetables out of her garden and came to give it to Baby and his mom. I sneaked a bean and it was delicious!! Fresh tomatoes, basil, beans and beets......they are all in my fridge as they have decided to cook here this week. It is supposed to get even hotter!!

"A plane!"

"Where did it go?"

"Bee!" He speaks Nolanese.

He loves any kind of music!

And this is one of his favourite places to climb!

I am on holidays.......at least that is my story and I am sticking to it! Summer arrived and I have gotten lazy. I just don't move as fast......I sleep more......I eat more ice cream......and I lack motivation. It almost sounds like I am depressed......but nope, that's not it. I am just lazy. I am enjoying the free time that July always comes with, as I really don't have any daytime commitments. I have to work, but I actually don't really have a clock that I have to punch, and I can pretty much come and go as I please. Sort of. Like as much a middle-aged woman with 5 or 6 children under the age of ten can come and go. It isn't all that easy......but then it isn't as hard as it could be either. They love the park, and water and food. Sometimes we go find those things.....but they are really quite happy to play Lego or Superheroes, read books or colour, or play games and bake. I have had the same group of children for so long that they really care about each other and just like to hang out. We have played Crazy 8's and Go Fish for hours on end.....I even bring the deck of cards to the park with us now.

I hosted Book Club this month and that meant I had to do some cleaning. I really do HATE cleaning, but it has to be done, so it was a great excuse to de-clutter and deep clean some stuff. You know those icky jobs that always seem to get put on the back burner.....literally! I cleaned my oven and stovetop one evening.......and went through some paperwork.......and Hubby is just way better at this kind of stuff than me, (and did way more than I did) but I look around now....almost 2 weeks later and I sometimes wonder what we actually did. Why is it that you can clean up and pick up every single day and it still needs to be done again and again and again!?!? Oh right.....I have children here. Silly me......

The miracles have been busy too. #4 was house-sitting last week so we didn't see him much. #2 finished school and is very happy about that. He still has a couple of loose ends to tie up, but for the most part, he is done! I see #3 a fair amount but she has been spending a lot of time in her job search, so I have been helping out with Baby when I can. #1 is still on medical leave and needing our prayers.

Baby has been sleeping through the night a fair amount. He has gone to the one nap a day and by doing that is sleeping a good 5 out of 7 now. It's been wonderful for both him and especially his mom. He got his two bottom molars this week, he is climbing everything he can and it's funny to watch how confident he is becoming. Reaches up onto the counter now, so that's always fun! He runs now too and that is just too cute for words. As #2 said, "He just gives 'er." His favorite toys are still balls and books, but I love to watch him "pretend." He plays with the dishes in the kitchen center and also nurtures baby dolls. He really likes the toy cell phones and loves "mamoons." (balloons) He copies our finger plays and it is just so fun to watch him sing Little Fish and Where is Thumkin? Let's face it......I am rather enamoured with the boy!

It's Summer Kids Club at the church this week and God must really love me as I have been totally blessed with some of the greatest 4 and 5 years olds ever! It's in the evening though so the 12 hour days have been a bit tiring for me. #4 has an 8 and 9 year old group and he is way more tired than me. His kids are hyper.....mine are rather mellow. Here is a cute pic of Baby with his very tired grandma on Day 4 of Kids Club. No make-up and you can tell, but I truly loved it of him. He is looking very grown up!

Attention Span

When we went out for dinner the other night, Baby sat in his chair and played with the FP little people. Not very long ago, these "choking hazards" went right into his mouth......sometimes up to three of them at a time. Now he finds them really interesting and they entertained him for over half an hour. I taught him how to make them into little finger puppets, and he thought that was very fun.
I love that he is able to understand things now. His mommy asked him to get his socks the other day and he went right over to the unfolded laundry, picked out two socks and brought them to her. When she told him it was time for breakfast and he needed to sit in his chair, he immediately went over to sit in his little Elmo chair. He obeys simple commands and it's really great that he is understanding so much. When I bring out the camera, he automatically says, "cheese" and looks right at it. He can point to his nose and his belly button when asked, and sometimes even gets the ears and the eyes right. It's a fun age.....a very fun learning time....which makes it a very fun teaching time!

Happy Birthday to You!!

We celebrated another family birthday tonight. They seem to come quicker and quicker every year!! We took advantage of our wonderful new bridge and headed to Langley for dinner. SIL had never been to The Olive Garden and it was very delicious. I had the new chicken crostada that they are advertising in their commercial right now.......and I made a good decision.

It's raining out today. I really wanted to go to the beach. But I guess we won't be doing that! Just two little four year olds were scheduled and now we are all disappointed that it is not to be. Trying to figure out what we are going to do instead.........

We have been spending a lot of time at the park in the last couple of weeks. I even braved the Spray Park with the children and they were all very, very good. Everyone is between the ages of four and seven right now, so we are all very transportable. Water, parks, picnics......it really doesn't take too much effort to keep them all happy these days.

Baby and Miracle #4 went to their long-awaited dermatologist's appointments and as expected, there isn't anything to worry about. Baby has mastocytoma on his torso, which is a little mark that we thought looked like a birthmark. GP was not overly concerned but sent him off to the specialist so we could get a name for it and why it was there. Excess "mast cells" which will probably go away by the time he is 8 or 9........so that was good to know. #4 had a few questionable moles on his back that are fine........and that is good to know as well.

Community Care Licensing showed up on Friday for their routine visit. I had been expecting them for a while and as it had been a whole year, plus a few weeks. Usually we aren't even on premise and she has to phone and make an appointment, but we were home on Friday as I had a seatbelt issue. Seven little boys played Lego and Marbleworks for an hour while she did her inspection and it went way too well. They were soooooooo good and she even commented how quiet they all were. Which they were. It was a great visit and I am so glad it is over for another year...........I always stress about it and yet after this many years, you would think I would actually know what I was doing by now!!

We went to a beautful outdoor wedding yesterday. And now the "little" family is complete. It was a very hot day, but everyone had a wonderful time. The ceremony was great, complete with one 16 month old wanting his mommy and daddy who were exchanging vows. Yay for 11 year old Alexis who saved the day and took her cousin away to the back of the yard.....he stayed in the shade of the tent and it was much more fun for him back there anyway.

Family picture!

And here we are, in the front of the house, trying to find some shade. This was in between dinner and the speeches and there was a beautiful breeze so it was a perfect spot to hang out for a while. Baby has been to 2 weddings in his life and he is only 15 months old. He loved the music and the people and was very well behaved. There were lots of kids at the wedding and he loved to watch them. Congratulations to Stacy and Ken!!!!!
