It's the last day of August......already! I did figure out that the kids ended up with ten weeks off this year instead of the usual nine, but it still went by very, very fast. We have had a really nice summer.........weatherwise. The sun has shone most days and it has been warmer more than it has been cooler. A little bit of rain, but the grass is drier than it is most years, so you can tell that we haven't had as much as usual. The PNE arrived last week and it still hasn't poured down on it, which is not usual either. I know we have another week, but it really has been a nice summer.

My MIL broke her foot on August 1st and is having a rough go. She has been in a lot of pain, and is not very happy about her aircast or her walker. We went for a short visit yesterday and it has really taken a toll on her. She has aged this past month........and is not liking that she cannot do some of the things that she is so used to doing. Independence is a precious thing......especially to 77 year olds! She said that she has to have the cast on for at least 3 more weeks, and is still cursing the garden hose that she tripped over in the back yard.

BABY IS SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT!!!! I don't mean to yell, but it is so wonderful for him and his mom. He actually started in Mid-July, but we didn't want to get too excited too prematurely, but I think we have reason to be excited! It only took the boy 16 months, but by jove, I think he's got it!! Needless to say, we are all extremely pleased!!

And it would be really nice to say that #3 is feeling more rested, but she started a full-time job on July 29th and is still really tired. It will take her body a bit longer to get used to the new routine, but up until today she was subbing. Now she has a full-time permanent position as the After School Supervisor at Monkey's Playhouse, starting tomorrow. So no more commuting to PoCo or Port Moody, taking care of the same children every day, and a bit more of a regular schedule. She is very, very pleased and we are very, very proud of her. Her new boss recognized her potential right away, and she is working 2 km from her home. I think it is rather ironic that two of my children work within 20 houses of the house that they grew up in!! And they are both working with children!! They are both where they need to be, as they are soooooo good with the little ones!

Baby has been a bit cranky in the last few days, and his mom found one new top molar hopefully the next one is not too far behind. And just think, just four eye teeth and four more molars, and he is done! We are farther ahead than behind now!

He loves to climb!

This was taken about a month ago, and he is very, very proud!

Mastering the stairs at the playground.

And just as we were about to leave for our picnic last week, he thought it would be a wonderful idea to climb up on the cooler. If only he could get down as easily as he gets up, then it wouldn't be so stressful! That being said, he is very aware that he is up, and needs help to get back down again. A month ago, not so much; but now he just loves to get as high as his little climbing legs will take him. He shimmies up and down the staircase with great confidence.......I even took the gate down last week as he is doing it so well. Almost 17 months old......where does the time go?

Contagious giggle!

He is laughing at his mom here. She is playing with a ball and he is loving it! He just loves balls! I let him have some marbles the other day....totally supervised......and he was having so much fun with them. Just likes to hold them and touch them, put them down, pick them up; and he is totally amazed with Marbleworks. I love this age of total curiosity!

We went to the Aquarium today....

.....and we had such a great time! Baby loved the dolphins the best and can do the EEEEE sound really well. But all the fish were fun, and ya gotta love the two little fingers that were always present. Little fish, little fish, swimming in the water.......

And I must really be out of the loop. I knew that we had one baby beluga, but I had no idea that there were two. One was born last year, and now the grandma beluga had one this year! We had to be very quiet in the beluga nursery........and it was a very fun day!!!

A Rainy Monday

It poured out today......absolutely poured out. As much as one of my little guys kept asking to go outside to play, it was not to be. So we had a wonderful day indoors.......they all played and played and played. We built a fort and it was a very big hit!!! And Baby painted a picture.......he thought it was kinda fun.

I just had to add this on to the last blog post. I don't know why Blogger will only let me ever post five pictures.........but I really like this one too!

I need to remember.....

....that the pressures in my eyes are 17 and 20. When I went to the opthamologist yesterday, I had a pachymetry test. Which is a fancy name for pictures of the inside of my eyes. But before they do that test, they freeze my eye surfaces with drops and take pressure readings. I was asked if I knew what the readings usually are...........and of course, I didn't. So she asked me to remember for next time. ( I personally thought that was her job.....but maybe it's not, lol ) That's why I am writing it down. I will forget. I usually do. My next appointment is already three months away so this is my assurance that I can look it up on the day that I go back!

This is my second three-day weekend in a row. I took yesterday off to get some appointments and chores done and it was a very lovely day. I took my passport in to get renewed and was pleasantly surprised that it took less than ten minutes. Of course, this made me early for everywhere else that I went, but it was nice to be so leisurely. Hubby even took me to a movie last night and I really enjoyed it......dilated pupils and all. We went to see Julie and Julia, and last week we went to see The Ugly Truth. I really liked both of them!

The weather is certainly cooler than it has been and I hear it is supposed to rain this week. That will be great, because as I look around at all the dry grass, we can certainly use it. There are forest fires burning all over the province and rain will be a very welcome relief. Wouldn't it be nice if it just rained in the night and then all the days were sunny and warm? I know, I a perfect world.......

We are getting new neighbours. The house on our street went up for sale and sold within a few days. As a matter of fact, there was a bidding war and it sold for more than $50,000 than what they were asking. And then the deal fell through because of there was another bidding war. Quite entertaining for those who were out on their front lawns watching all the activity. In the end, it sold for just over $20,000 than what they were asking. The lady who left crying on the Sunday night ended up getting it on the Thursday night. Sold sign is up and it is now official. Probably a good thing, as I don't think this many cars have travelled up our road since the last time it was up for sale four years ago!

The reason I work with children..... very self-explanatory. This little treasure has been coming for the last week and he just gets so excited to arrive in the morning. His mom says he squeals when they come around the corner. So cute! We spent the morning at the park and it amazes me how he keeps up with all the big kids......

Some funny quips from the children have been:

5 year old asking me to turn the costume right side out, "Can you unside this in?"

4 year old asking me for the craft scissors, the ones that have leaves and patterns. "Can you get me the bleathery scissors?"

4 year olds conversation about planes. He had just come home from a trip.
Me: "What kind of plane did you go on?"
Him: "I don't know. But Air Canada is the biggest airplane!"
Me: "Did you go on an Air Canada plane?"
Him: "No. I don't know what kind of plane it was."
Me: "Did you have a sign on your plane?"
Him: "Yes!!"
Me: "What did the sign say?"
Him: "Fasten your seatbelts!"
Oh, how I laughed.........

Cute Boy!

Super tired and super messy, but super cute!!

He likes to sit in this box, it's one of his favourite places to hang out. This was taken one morning last week, when it was already 28 degrees outside and only 8 am.

He is showing us what a barracuda does. He can do a little fish, octopus, barracuda, shark and a whale. It's really cute when he expresses, "oh no!" which is part of the song for all you people who don't know the Little Fish song. We sing it alot at this house. At sixteen months, he is following direction really well but still not saying too much. It was very sweet today when we had four horses clip clop up the road today and he said, "Mooooooo." He knows the cow, elephant and dog really well...........we are working on some more!
His mommy is working again! She got a job a child-care center in Port Moody, but they also have centers in Coquitlam and Maple Ridge. Right now she is subbing, which means full-time for the time being. Baby hasn't really skipped a beat as he is coming to Grandma's house, but his mom misses him alot. She is enjoying the work and the people she works with so that is something to be thankful for. And she has worked in the baby room, the 3-5 room and also the 6-12 room, so is getting experience with all the different ages. It is giving her a real feel for the ages she likes the best. She has registered for her ECE in the Fall, so it's good to get the group care experience. After working with the toddlers though, she came home to her "sheltered, coddled little boy." He is still our baby........and I have no problem keeping him there for awhile longer!!

Happy 32nd!

We had another family birthday today........and we managed to have a celebration dinner. I made chicken lasagna and it was so decadent and very delicious. We all appreciated it very much and I certainly do know why it comes with the note on the recipe, "Death to Dieters." Soooooo rich and fattening, it's really a good thing that I only seem to make it every 3 years!!

Cute cousins!

Loving my cousin!

It has been a very, very hot week! I think that the worst has past but the temperatures were in the high 30's all week and with the humidity, it was feeling like 42 or 43 degrees. It was HOT!!
Cousin Chase came to visit yesterday and the boys are really starting to enjoy each other's company. They are very much alike and so that makes them both very mellow and affectionate. It's funny to watch them as they copy one another and giggle at one another's antics.
