Halloween Weekend!

It went by extremely quickly......they usually do when you have lots to do. And most of it was very fun. Hubby took me out for breakfast on Saturday which was a wonderful way to start the day. He had appointments, and I had paperwork to do, so when he came home we went out to get a little bit of shopping done. Christmas shopping, actually. Toys'R'Us had a good sale, so we were able to get a few things, and then we went to Guildford. What a gong show! Lots of construction and no parking.......all for going to see the new Bath and Body shop that opened two weeks ago. Nice store, but it probably would have been easier to head to the States. LOL

We went down to check out the Halloween fireworks in Albion on Saturday night. Lots of waiting to see what was going to happen. He's usually quite patient, but we went into Planet Ice beforehand, and that's all he could talk about was going back to see the hockey guys.

Still waiting....

And for little ole Maple Ridge, they were very good. All they were really missing was some music and they reminded me of the Celebration of Light. Shorter, but just as colourful. Toddler thought they were too loud and he and his Daddy headed back to the hockey rink. That little boy loves his hockey!!

And this is who came for early trick or treating this afternoon. That's the best part about babies, it doesn't have to be dark and they don't have to get candy. But she loved her plastic pumpkin that her Nana bought her......makes for a great teether.

Here's our cute little ladybug! The cutest one I have ever seen!

At least, I sure think so!!

Showing off her "booty pop"

We love her to the moon and back again!

Miracle #4 carved two of these pumpkins and DIL did the other three. We inherited theirs too, and so it was quite a little display that greeted all the little trick or treaters tonight. We got a grand total of 67 children this year!

Here is my favourite little pirate, coming to pick us up after he had done his own neighbourhood first. "come on gwamma, come on gwampa, put your shoes on."
We saw friends!

And a five year old friend joined us for a few houses!

Here he is, practically running down the street to the next house! He loved trick or treating!!

We all really liked this pumpkin, but Toddler liked it the most. He is such a little boy!! (there are four little boys who live in this house, so I am sure that they had great fun with this)

One of the houses in our neighbourhood!

And here we are, back home to admire his auntie's and uncle's handiwork. I think we will chalk Halloween 2010 up as a roaring success!! A lot of fun was had by all!!

Six Months Old!

She is six months old today!! And it is going by way too fast, and she is way too cute!! She got weighed and measured yesterday and she is 18 pounds 11 ounces and 27 inches long. Growing up before our very eyes.

She fits into 12 month size clothing now and 0-6 month shoe. I think that is a size 2. Diapers are Size 4, but she wears a cloth diaper during the day and is only in a disposable at night. She is creeping along the floor now, and rocks on all fours. Whenever anyone gets her from her nap she is doing the 'booty pop' as her mommy calls it. Still moving and and shaking. She went for her first swim this past week and loved it.......but no, it didn't make her sleep any better. She goes to bed around 7 every night and is awake by 7 every morning. But still wakes up at least once for a bottle or 'dream feed.' Catnaps during the day. She really doesn't want to miss a thing!! She still has her contagious smile and lights up every room with it. And when she giggles, we all giggle with her.

And if you look really close in this picture, you can see her two bottom teeth that came in last Wednesday, October 20th. I just love her to pieces and still think that being a Grandma is the best job on Earth!!

We had so much fun this morning!

Isn't he the cutest little pirate that you ever did see? I think so, but I am his Grandma and I am slightly partial....

But I have to admit.....I think that she is the cutest little duck that I ever did see......and I am not her Grandma. A lot of people really think that I am a matter of fact, they usually think that I am her mom, and I take that as a real compliment, because I am way too old to be her

Here are my little cuties.....ready to go to our costume parade. I have sooooooo many pictures of him with his "Cheeeeese" face. I like that he looks at the camera now, but he is so typically two!

These are four of the children who were punctual to Drop-In this morning......we had several more join us to see all the kids show us their costumes. Lots of pirates this year and lots of princesses and superheroes. It always amazes me how much effort goes into Halloween costumes. Even the teachers go all out.

Here is a very familiar face who was just as happy to see us as we were to see her! She is in kindergarten and doesn't need Daycare any more....
Back in the StrongStart classroom, my little budding artist went straight for the craft table. He is making a bag with Halloween stickers and loves the glue too.

He's trying out a new technique....painting with a Q-tip.

And here is my cute little duck, right into the sensory table. I am not going to tell you how much shredded paper ended up on the floor......

We went to visit his Mommy at her work as we were leaving. She is Clifford the Big Red Dog and it's recycled from Miracle #2 who wore it last year!

We left the school and he was a very happy little pirate. After we took Jade to meet her grandma and grandpa, we decided to visit one other special person. He had talked about Uncle who teaches pre-school and we decided to head over to the church.

See who we found?.....He is Beeker from The Muppets!

My cute little pirate with his tootsie pop from the front office.

Miracle #2 let Toddler join into the cheerleader section for his four year old class. The children were playing Musical Chairs, and I just love how the parents are peering in the windows. Too funny! Right after this, we went home and I had one pooped out pirate on my hands. At 11:45 he begged to go to bed, "I go nigh night Gwamma, plea(se)?" And he did and he slept for over three hours. We had such a fun morning!!

I think I am getting old....

I have a lot going on. I really do feel like I am on Space Mountain......a roller coaster ride that is in the dark. Not knowing what is going to happen next. Feeling a bit nauseous at every corner. I never did like that ride. When I did it the first time in 1994, I told myself I would never do that again. But then Disneyland changed it. So I tried it again in 2002, on the advice of my nine year old niece, and it was okay. Still not great, but it was okay. When I went back in 2005, I opted to watch all of my children go on, and stayed in the gift shop waiting with their Dad. I decided it was fine. I do like roller coasters, just not that one. California Screamin' is probably one of my favourite rides of all time. But I digress.

It's been a busy few months. October is almost over and I am happy that I have so many blog posts so I can remember what I have been up to. My job brings me joy. My heart is so full of love for these children who I take care of. Especially the littlest ones. Jade is 14 months and I have always said that this is one of my favourite ages. She is still a baby, but moving on to toddlerhood at warpspeed. She is on a great little schedule and understands everything; and is learning new things daily. Miracle #3 taught her how to sign 'please' today. They have a very special relationship, as #3 seems to teach her something new every day. She learns from me too, but she really listens to #3.

Toddler cracks me up. It was his Mommy's birthday this week and he loves singing Happy to you, to you. He can say birthday, but chooses to say "to you to you." It's cute and he loves singing. He and Jade take me back 27 years ago, as they are 17 months apart. Miracles #2 and #3 are just over 17 months apart. I feel like it's Deja Vu all over again. And I love it. They are so cute together and they care so much about one another. For the most part, she idolizes him and he lets her. Everything he does, she is sure to try and copy. It's fun, and they give me joy. I am really looking forward to taking the two of them to their first costume parade tomorrow at the school. She is a duck and he is a pirate and I promise to take pictures.

Miracle #1 isn't doing very well. She has an abundant amount of health issues and needs our prayers. After talking to her yesterday, it seemed like she was doing a little bit better, but after her visit tonight, it is very clear that she isn't. It's hard to be a parent when your children are ill. She has asked me to please phone her Dr. tomorrow to try and help. I will do what I can, but all of your prayers are very appreciated.

I am exhausted. And freezing cold. I can't tell if it is my thyroid acting up, or just aging. I know God only gives us what we can handle but I just wish He didn't trust me so much.

I have run into a few old friends in the last week and it has been fun catching up. They are all Grandmas and Grandpas too, so it was great to see all of them. The bank, the grocery store and Staples are great places to go to see friends.....who knew? I managed to get to church on the weekend too, and see more friends. Pastor Steve did a great sermon on children and he told us this week that it will be about extended family. I don't think I should miss it. Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles. It intrigues me.....the website said it will be from 1st and 2nd Timothy and I look forward to it! Let me leave you with a verse from last week:

"Children are a heritage from the Lord, they are a reward from Him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one's youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them."
Psalm 127:3-5

At The Patch

Baby was able to get out to the Pumpkin Patch on the weekend......the very wet weather held off until late Sunday and it was a pretty good weekend after all. I personally thought it was rather cold and have pulled out my down jacket, but it was the wind that whipped through that was chilly. Saturday was cloudy with sunny breaks and it was a perfect day for an almost six month old to experience her Great Pumpkin Adventure. She looks like she had a lot of fun!! I know that her Mom and Dad and her Uncle did!!

Friday Field Trip

We hoped and prayed for the weather to stay nice on Friday, but it was pouring rain all morning. Around noon, the sun came out and we headed to Abbotsford to check out a new field trip venue. I met two friends and more children once we were there, so all together there were three adults and nine children under the age of nine. It was so fun and I know we will go back again next year!!

We found a giant spider in the Pumpkin Patch!

Here are 8 of our 9 children....Lily is one and she was with her Mom.

The Boys....enjoying their Hayride!

We found Tow Mater!

This was their favourite part of the entire day. We jumped when we arrived and then went back before we departed. We were very grateful that the rain held off for the whole afternoon!!

So Fun!!

He's been waiting and waiting for this day. We have talked about it for a couple of months, that he is big enough to go skating now. Ever since he could talk, he's wanted to go "skating like Daddy", so when Hubby got the call this afternoon from Toddler to "come on the ice wif me", we got ready to go to the arena. Daddy plays hockey and Grandpa coached hockey so they were the logical choices to take. His Mommy and I watched and enjoyed it very, very much. We really didn't know what to expect. Would he like it? Would he not like it? Would he get frustrated? We didn't know........but HE LOVED IT! He stayed out on the ice for just over an hour and didn't want to come off. Luckily, the Zamboni was coming on so that convinced him that it was time to go. But nobody said he wanted to. I wonder how long he would have actually stayed out there........if we had left it up to him.

See? He was the last one off the ice.

Chatting to Grandpa....don't you love those little skates?

He got off the bench to go and see the Zamboni. By the end of his session, he actually had fairly good balance walking with skates on. I really do think that this will become a weekly, if not bi-weekly occurrence. He had so much fun!! And so did I!

We went back to Art Knapps!

It was supposed to pour rain today. But it didn't. So we had a little bit of fun this morning before we got busy with a couple of kid's hockey games and shopping and chores. I had a ten o'clock appointment and had an hour to kill before we had to be at Twin Rinks at 11:30, so Toddler and I took his mommy and his gwampa for some fun. He really enjoyed the ziptrekking the other day and it was too busy to go more than once (a school group was there) so I thought it would be good to go again. Well, in true two year old fashion, he didn't even care about the zipline and loved the Bouncy Castle today. He's a cheap date. Two bucks, and he had a great time. We were late for Carson's game because we waited for the train ride, but he would have just been happy to jump and jump and jump!

Went on the tire swing again

And played Toss the Beanbag

He had fun on the mini-golf ramp

And this just made us all laugh

A perfect little train to please a 2 year old

He's showing me his pockets

On his train ride with Grandpa.....stopped at the "pumpkin patch." I say this very loosely as their idea of a pumpkin patch is a bunch of pumpkins on the side of Lougheed Highway. It just doesn't feel very real, and yet, I am sure that the children don't mind one bit. A pumpkin is a pumpkin is a pumpkin. I was talking to a friend today whose children are 11 and 13, and she said that she misses the Pumpkin Patch. I have been so many times this year that I stopped counting, and I am probably not done yet!
