Happy Hallowe'en!

I had a wonderful day!! I started out at MyGym with the little guys, we went home for a quick and early lunch, and spent the afternoon at The Pumpkin Patch. Came home for jello and cookie snacks, attempted to watch a bit of our new Winnie the Pooh DVD and before I knew it, it was time for everyone to go home. We handed out 47 treats before we went over to see the grandchildren and they were so cute and had such a great time trick or treating. DIL made these jack-o-lanterns for our house and we got so many compliments........the children were very impressed. So am I......#4 made us a bat and it looked awesome as well, but I had some memory card and battery issues, so I will share some pictures tomorrow. Hallowe'en 2011 was a great success!!

At the Pumpkin Patch

Pretty Girl and her parents went for their annual trek to The Pumpkin Patch on Saturday. They all had a terrific morning!!

I love her curious mind....at 18 months, she needs to touch it.

And learn about the fish....I wonder what she is saying here.

Never wanting to hold hands, her Daddy has a good grip as she loves to look and then run like crazy to the next thing that she sees.

The corn maze was a big hit.....and she just had to pick up the hay and touch it.

And she led them through 75% of the maze. Cute little toddler....I just love her soooo much!!

Miracle #2 with his pretty little girl!

And DIL with her mini-me!

And tradition always calls for a photo with the pumpkins. They all had a wonderful time at The Pumpkin Patch!!

Autumn

It's Hallowe'en weekend.....and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. Oops! Wrong holiday. Not that I think that Hallowe'en is a holiday, but now that I have grandchildren, it's a very fun occasion. They are all very excited about their costumes, and I am looking forward to the day/evening. It is supposed to be sunny tomorrow, and usually that means it will be cold, but at least it won't be wet.

It's extremely wet out today. So the plan is to go shopping. I feel like I have been shopping a lot. Hubby and I went on Friday night, then again yesterday mid-day........and we still have more to do. We read the flyers now and I haven't actually made out my list for today, but I have a lot crossed out from yesterday and the day before. We are actually doing things for Christmas, with a little bit of Hallowe'en and birthday stuff added in. He took me to Me'n'Eds for lunch yesterday and as usual, their Pyrogy pizza did not disappoint........this is one of the best part about busy weekends is that we eat out a lot. Tried to get into a few restaurants when we went to the hockey game last night, but they were all very lined up. Serves us right for not getting downtown until 5 o'clock, but we ended up at the Tinseltown Food Fair and had a great chinese dinner. It wasn't as good as Moxie's or The Public House would have been, but it was pretty good for take-out and very reasonably priced in comparison to what we would have paid for in Rogers Arena. It was a great game, and the Canucks beat the Washington Capitals 7-4. Alex Ovechkin is a suberb hockey player and he is quite the entertainer, so it really was a game to remember. And I am so happy we won........I didn't even realize that I had these tickets, as they were in my other selection......I had two instead of one. So Hubby and I celebrated his birthday......he doesn't usually come but I think he is glad that he did. It was so fun to watch seven goals get scored......I love it!!

We went to the Rockford on Friday night......it is a new restaurant in Langley and it reminded me a lot of The Cactus Club. Kind of pricey, but the pan-fried salmon was excellent. We went to Toy Traders, ToysRUs and Carters and we scored some great deals. All of the Hallowe'en stuff was marked to less than half price, so I was able to pick up a few costumes and a few treats for the Daycare. And Sweetheart is now going to be a duck as the costumes at Carters were only 7.99. She was going to be a bear, but her brother's costume was soooo big, and her cousin's ladybug costume was probably too small. It didn't really matter if she dressed up at all, but now she is set. Her brother is going to be a dragon and Pretty Girl will be a garden gnome. I am looking so forward to seeing them in their costumes tomorrow!!

Halloween is coming!

The children and I have been busy this week. We have our usual activities, and I managed to throw in some painting and gluing too. I also bought some foamie stickers and decorations to paint and they were all more than happy with their choices. From clockwise, starting from the upper left, the children who did these pumpkins were 2, 2, 4, 1, 3, 7, 7, and 6. I found it rather interesting where they all put the eyes. I think it reflects upon their personalities. (And yes, the one year old did have help from his Mommy, as he really wasn't all that interested in painting and/or gluing at all. He just wanted to get down and play with the kids.)

Yesterday was a crazy day. It started out rather calmly, but I had to go into New Westminster for an eye dr's appointment and was supposed to bring a driver. Or wait a few hours and then I could drive myself after the dilation regulated. I chose to drive myself and wait a few hours. Traffic was horrendous, and I was a few minutes late for my appt, but they were really good about it. I had some pictures taken of my eyes and was out of there in 45 minutes and then I went shopping over at Royal City Center. Zellers isn't there any more but it was still fun to window shop. I did end up doing a little bit of damage at the bookstore and the shoe store, but I didn't buy anything for me.

As I was driving down the Mary Hill Bypass on the way home, I noticed an awful smell coming from the car in front of me. At least that's what I thought it was. Turned out it was my van, or rather my tire, and it was smoking. Hmmmmm. Not good. By the time that I figured out it was MY vehicle that was so stinky, I had turned off to go to Costco and I parked and watched my tire smoke while I phoned Hubby. He phoned his work and called me back, and he came to get me to take the van into his dealership. It had cooled down enough that it didn't smoke any more, but he drove the van and I drove the truck and now my van is sitting in Coquitlam waiting to get fixed. He got a ride to work from a friend and hopefully it is nothing too serious. The van went in last week to get serviced and there was really nothing wrong with it that $81 couldn't fix. Figured I was good for another 6000 km. Now we just have to wait and see.

I have what is called a 'soft' day today. Only one toddler coming for the morning, his friend will be here until 3:30, and then 3 after-schoolers will come just before 3 and they will be here until 5. I am hoping that the sun is here for the day, as even though it is cold, the big ones are way happier to get outside and roar. The little ones, not so much. They are so sweet, they are such great little players and even though most of them are boys, they are so quiet and content. I am looking forward to a much calmer day today!

Dance Party

Clapping and singing to the DVD.

I love this.....I called him, he looked over and he just looks so surprised. I think it shows how grown up looking he is getting. I must have taken 30 pictures last night and kept 7. I took pictures of moving children. And they had so much fun......so did I!
They love each other so much.......and now that they are 3 and 1/2 and 1 and 1/2, they are really starting to communicate and get along. She loves her Nono and you would have thought he was a rock star last week when he came in my door. She was sooooooooo excited to see him!!

Dance, Dance, Dance!!

These are all three of my grandchildren.....they are all still for one second. One is sleeping and two are looking at the computer. The fact that that they are all in the picture and sort of looking in the same direction is impressive to me.

Books

I love books!! And games and toys, and shoes and jackets. I am rather addicted to them all, and whenever I am in any type of store that has any of these items, I find that I can spend hours looking and reading and playing. And lately, I have been finding myself in these types of stores. And my credit card works great!! It's a good thing that I know my budget because I could charge way more than I need to. Right now, my credit cards are all paid off. Which is a good thing. And a bad thing. We have done a lot of Christmas shopping in the last few days and I look at my list of 38 children and I think that I am done. I just put in a Discovery Toy order and few minutes ago, and I really do believe that I don't have any more of the children to buy for. Two months early. And it is #3's birthday today, and we haven't even had her celebration..........so I am so far ahead that it sort of worries me. I know that I still have decorating to do, and groceries to buy, but that can't get done until December. And there are a few adults to buy for, but gift certificates seem to be my best choices for them..........so I might wait to do that, or maybe not. All I know is that I have NEVER EVER been this organized or prepared. And I must be somewhat stressed or hyper-thyroid because I have been cooking soups and stews again. I don't feel it, but I am way too active and busy for my own good. Oh well, I best enjoy it while I can as life gets crazy again next week.......2 birthdays, #4 has surgery and my great-nephew is starting Daycare. Busy, busy, busy!!

A visit to Great-Grandpa's

Miracle #3 took her children to visit Great-Grandpa on Friday. Isn't this a lovely picture of him and his beautiful great-grandchildren? Grandson was pretty funny......as soon as he walked in the door, he said "Great-Grandpa, I like you!!" Well, that's the way to an old man's heart, I can tell you that much......And the best part about three year olds is that they mean what they say. Cute, hey?

My Dad and his great-granddaughter.

Birthday Party!

We went to a very special boy's first birthday party last weekend and a great time was has by all. It is always so fun to see the family and celebrate another milestone. I depended on my sisters to take pictures and send them to me and these are some of my faves. We had a lovely time and the birthday boy did so well. He is a very shy boy and he didn't mind having forty people over for lunch at all!

My baby sister, her daughters and my grand-daughter.

My three sisters and my two grand-daughters.

My niece, her son, and my grandson.

My grand-daughter and my great-nephew. She is 5 months older than him.

Happy 1st Birthday to you!! We love you so much, sweet boy!

I love this one!!

He shared his cake, and he sure loved his cupcake!!

Shopping

We spent another Saturday shopping. But this time we stayed in Canada. And we did spent way more money here in Canada than in the States last weekend..........in a less amount of time. We have been looking at new windows for the last month or so, and we went to choose which ones we were getting yesterday. We also got some info on grants and are very happy to qualify for $100 a window, which in our case, works out to $2900. We have the inspector coming on Friday to perform an energy assessment, and it almost sounds like one of those too-good-to-be-true situations. We are looking very forward to getting new windows as it is one of those jobs that we have been putting off for way too long.

So, in our travels, at the end of the day, after heading to Haney Builders, Zellers, Payless Shoes, Costco and M&M's, we headed over to the jewelry store. I had found a ring there quite a few months ago, and knew that it was on my wish list..............never really ever expecting to receive my wish. It was a want, not a need, so I am not very good at that. I always have to justify every penny I spend.......it's a habit I have had since I was young and it is a habit that I will have until I die. Even when I actually have the cash in my hands, I still have to think and re-think it. Not so much with purchases under $100, but my hand still shakes if I have to write a cheque for over a thousand. Silly, I know, but it's just that way that I am. Well, I didn't spend ANY money.......Hubby did. He bought me the most beautiful amethyst and diamond ring........it's pink gold, which I had never seen before and I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. I can't stop looking at finger. I already know that I am loved and I am blessed, but Hubby made me feel so happy to be alive. Here is the reason why:

Baby Turns One!

My great-nephew turned one on October the 14th. And his Mommy and his Grandma went off to Art Knapps to take some fabulous Fall pictures. Here he is, being very adorable and looking so very grown up. He is 19 lbs 8 ozs, and measures 29 and 3/4 inches long.

Here I go again.....

For the last 17 years, I have run a licensed family daycare. Before that, I was raising my own children and doing some child-minding. Toddlers have become a huge part of my life and every five or six years, I seem to have a new bunch to love. They bring me joy.......and laughter........and they entertain me all day long. By the time 5 o'clock rolls around, I am very appreciative of the fact that they go home and I can take a breath. Literally. I love them to pieces, but they wear me out. Physically. Not mentally. When I had teenagers, they were the ones who wore me out mentally......but I digress. I am loving my days with the little ones and it is a whole bunch of fun, even though my house often looks like a tornado has been through it. They play, they walk, and they drop whatever they might be playing with wearever they happen to be. When there is only one little toddler walking about, then I can usually keep up on it. Not when there are two or three. We have done a lot of rearranging of rooms to make them more toddler friendly, and it is working out really well. The pre-schoolers now have two rooms to escape to instead of one, and it really makes a difference. We can all have our own space, and everyone is very content. I am loving all the little guys, and our days are busy and action-packed but I would have it no other way. Here are some pictures of some of my little guys, not all of them, but these are the ones that I have from the last few weeks.

She's my leader of the pack, and she's 26 months old.

At 21 months, he is second in command.....he just doesn't know it.

Mr. Friendly.....and he is 15 months old.

My shy guy.......he is also 15 months.

The little dark-haired baby

My Dad is very smitten with "the little dark-haired baby." My sisters and I think that she is like our own babies, and reminds my Dad of his own babies too. And she is still little and very complacent, so she will still sit on anyone's knee and visit with anyone who wants to visit. It's a fun age and it goes by very, very quickly. I love this picture of my Dad, and I think it is rather funny, because of the background. If I knew how to edit out the changing of the diaper I would, but this is such a great photo, that I had to share it!!

Miracle #1 is very smitten with her new niece as well. Our whole family really likes babies, so she gets it very honestly.

And here is #3 and her mini-me. I really need to thank you for giving her to us.....she is a precious gift from God and we all love having her in our lives!!

Dear God

Thank-you. For with Him, all things are possible. I know this and believe it........and I know we are all really good at asking for things without saying "Thank-you." I try my best and am fairly consistent, and I don't always remember. But every night before bed, I say my prayers and I always say Thank-you. I will never forget that part of my daily routine........and sometimes I even wake up in the middle of the night and I will pray again. Most mornings are started with some devotion and quiet time and then lately, I have been hitting the floor running. I shoot arrow prayers all day long, and I really do think that I say Thank-you more than I actually ask for anything. I told my nephew the other day that I don't like presents and he was rather surprised. Because, as he said, "Everyone likes presents." Nope, not me. I like your presence. And I don't like being the center of attention and receiving presents. It's just the way that God made me.

Hubby received his inheritance check yesterday. And all it did was make me feel sad. The End. A life was lived, she died, and now I don't want to sound ungrateful, but I don't want to even spend it. We have talked and talked about what what we would do with the money when the condo sold, and where it would go, and what we would do, and that part was kind of exciting. But now that it is real, it doesn't feel great at all. Hubby says I have to get over it........and it is his Mom's way of taking care of us. She struggled with finances while she was on Earth, and she loved to give presents........so I know that she is happy to have given this final legacy to her children. I know that. But it still feels weird.

I've been busy. My work life is busy and my personal life is busy. My social life has picked up in the last few weeks and I have been more intentional about seeing and talking to my friends. I went to the hockey game on Tuesday night and the Canucks lost to the NY Rangers. It was a great game until the third period and then the wheels fell off the wagon and we lost 4-0. That was the score of the last game that I went to too......Boston beat us and they won the Stanley Cup. I don't go again until the middle of November, so I hope my boys can get it together by then. I still had fun, as it was so great to go out with my friend and catch up on all of our news. She just got back from a Caribbean cruise, and we still had Summer to catch up on. Lots of talking going into Vancouver and probably even more when we came home.

I went to Shinobi with Shannon last night and we had sushi. I also tried a new type of salad and loved it.........I love Japanese food, I could eat it every night. We had Chinese on Saturday night, which I also love, but Thai food is pretty darn great too. I see that we have a new Thai restaurant in town. (Cynde, I think we need to go there, okay? I am hoping that they are open on Saturday for lunch)

It's raining today. I haven't seen Grandson and his sister for the last couple of days as they are laying low. He has a virus, and needs some time to stay home and get better. I haven't talked to #3 since yesterday at noon and he feels good during the day, but starts coughing and feeling crummy in the evening. He went to the Dr. and he just has to rest and get better. I miss him, as he loves to come and play with the kids, and I love to see him as well. All of my grandchildren make me smile!! And I thank God every day for all 3 of them......for all 6 of my children too, and my wonderful husband. And my family and friends. I love you all so very, very much!!!

So true......

Babysitting

We babysat on Friday night so that their parents could celebrate their anniversary. #3 mentioned that she thinks that they have gone to the same restaurant every year for their special day, so it's becoming a tradition. Here's our boy having fun with Play-Doh......he loves it and it entertained him for over an hour.

He had lots of fun making worms and snakes with his Grandpa.....

........while his baby sister slept close-by. She likes her carseat and can be rocked to sleep in it when she is out. After about 45 minutes, she started to stir and look for her thumb, but will always take a soother if she can't find it right away.

Showing me his potato head that he made.....

....and then he wanted to be silly. I think he looks like he has a soother too!! LOL

Here are my two best boys!!

He was so excited to spend the night. He loved that Grandpa made him a new bedroom and he loved sleeping over. Slept right through until morning and I had to wake him as we were heading stateside. He hasn't been sleeping all that great ever since his sister has been sleeping through the night.......it's rather ironic, I think. I am guessing that it is growing pains, but he wakes up 2-3 times a week.......and really all he needs is a bit of comfort and he is sound asleep again. But I really do think that the irony of life is kind of amusing. Don't ever take anything for granted, right? I know that I don't..........and I especially don't now that I am older. And wiser.(hahaha) Oh, how I love being a Grandma!!!
