Happy New Year!

And then it was Christmas.....

I am currently on Day 4 of a five day weekend.  Christmas has come and Christmas has gone and it feels quieter than normal.  It really wasn't, but it felt that way.  We went to church on Christmas Eve and my highlight was listening to Grandson and Pretty Girl sing Silent Night with the rest of the congregation.  Both know all of the words and both sang with all of their hearts!

We went to friend's on Christmas Eve and ate and drank too much.  Feels like we did that a lot last week. I am trying so hard to make more sensible choices this week!

We went to brunch on Christmas morning at #3 and #4's house.  The blessings were all together and we had a great time.  Went home for a few hours.......I actually did laundry and tidied up a bit before making yams for my participation in Christmas dinner, it was a really mellow afternoon........and then headed to Mission for Christmas dinner.  Here is a wonderful picture of my sister-in-law with two of her nephews.

I worked on Thursday, my one day between my five day weekends......and we haven't really done too much to speak of.  Hubby has been working, he had the chance to take these few days off and declined, deciding to save his vacation time for the new year.  We have been talking about going somewhere tropical, but have decided to be more practical and get the van fixed.  The cylinder head gasket was leaking and it turned out to be a broken cylinder head bolt.  The manifold stud was also broken and it turned out that it also needed a new thermostat.  We tossed around a lot of ideas, but a new van and a new van payment just didn't seem as smart as $1000 to fix the one we already have.  It's a Daycare van.  As old as it is, it has been very well maintained and very well taken care of.  Not to mention that six carseats actually fit into it.  Can't say that about too many vans these days.  Soooooooo, I think we are staying home this winter and I will appease myself with Hot Yoga for now.  I am headed there for noon and I am really looking forward to it!

Stanley Park train

It has become a yearly tradition to head down to Stanley Park in December and enjoy the lights and the little train ride. The children love it and I do believe that the grown-ups have as much fun as the children.  We were fortunate to go on an evening that it didn't rain.  It was cold and wet, but not raining!

Sweetheart loved it all. She looked like a little oompa-loompa in her snowsuit as she toddled about and enjoyed her evening.

Grandson loves all the wooden cut-outs and needs to investigate and get a picture in as many as he can.

Tree Farm

I know that the smoke from the campfire is making this picture fuzzy, but I couldn't resist.  The two little blessings are looking at each other and I just love it!

There, I know that this one is better.  They went to pick out a tree on the first of December, and a fun time was had by all.  We managed to get there before the crowds and before it started to pour rain.

It wouldn't be the same without a train ride up around the lot and back again.  Sweetheart loved it!

They are a determined looking group, don't you think?  We are off to the barn to see the animals.

I think that they liked each other.  Grandson looks very surprised!  He and his sister really enjoyed looking at the animals.

They ended up choosing a fraser fir that had been pre-cut.  But it just wouldn't be complete without a picture with the trees.

Yes, I know that Hallowe'en was already two months ago, but I just couldn't resist posting some great pictures of my little "strawbilly."

She loved trick or treating and couldn't wait to get to the next house to see the next pumpkin.

Cutest little strawbilly that I ever did see!

Sharing..... caring.  And I have to thank my lovely husband for sharing his cold with me.  His grandchildren shared it with him, so I guess fair is fair.  After our very busy social week in the middle of December, I had this annoying sore throat and pathetic little cough.  I felt okay.....just not great.  Made me lazy.  And I guess that is what I was supposed to do is be lazy.  Work was busy, but my evenings that I wasn't at yoga were spent in front of the tv "watching" sappy Christmas movies.  I say that I was watching in quotations, because I wasn't really watching.  I was sleeping.  Christmas Kiss.  Christmas Song.  A Little Bit of Christmas. Loved the titles that Hubby PVR'd, and they were wonderful from what I saw of them, but I mostly just slept through them.  I have never really been a tv watcher, but I am an excellent tv sleeper.

And I lied.  I said that I didn't have any more social engagements until Christmas Eve.  Not true.  I took Grandson to Hometown Christmas one afternoon and he loved it as much as me.  He had a perma-grin during the entire production.  It really is one of the best deals in  Live nativity, with live animals and angels coming down the aisles right beside us.......and a train which appears to come right through the auditorium. The music was marvelous, and so upbeat.  I didn't know how he would do as he is only four and it is an hour and a half long, but he loved it.

He was also in his first Christmas play for pre-school.  He was a shepherd and practiced his line, "What is that noise?  What is that sound?" so that he knew it off by heart.  Loved that when I first asked him who he was going to be in his play, he originally told me Shrek.  Shrek, shepherd.....same difference.  He and Chase were both shepherds and they did magnificently.

We had our traditional Dinner with Santa at the Golf Course on the 23rd.  There were 30 of us all together and I am still waiting to see pictures, but a grand time was had by all.  And yeah, my blog will let me post pics again.  Don't know what happened, but I gave it a shot a few minutes ago and look what happened.  Surprised me.  Good old technology.  Don't know why, don't know how come, but I won't question it.  It is because I was going to start a new blog on Tuesday.  I still may do it.  Maybe not.

Christmas feels like it was a very long time ago......and really it has only been five days.  Here is one of the pictures that was taken for our Christmas card.  Never made the card, because I was feeling rushed and I ended up picking the wrong one.  Oh well.  I will post more as the week progresses.  Because I can!  I am almost feeling giddy, now that I know that I can put up pictures again.

I have been very social.  Every day/evening this week has been filled with fun and friends, and it is actually starting to wear me down.  Perhaps it is the toddlers in the day who are really doing it, but nonetheless, I am feeling like maybe I should go have a nap today while my 22 month old is napping.

It has been so fun!  But it's so busy!  And of course, there is nothing else on the calendar until Christmas Eve and Day, so I will have lots of time to rest up.  Normal appointments and work stuff, but nothing extra.  And you know, maybe I am just getting old, but my weekend of rest and relaxation is looking pretty darn good right now!

We do have plans to put up the Christmas tree as I have a certain little boy who is very concerned as to why I don't have one.  Chiro appointments tomorrow morning are my only "thing I have to do" and then the rest will be fun.  Even though I really don't find that putting up the Christmas tree all that relaxing, it will keep me home and I know that I will enjoy it once it is up.  I spend a lot of time enjoying it when it is here, and it brings back some great memories.  Every decoration has meaning......a lot of them have been given to me by my children, grandchildren and especially past daycare children.  I reminisce so much at this time of year........

We are half-way through December, on our way to Christmas.  Grandson is loving his Star Wars Lego Advent calendar and looks forward to each day with great anticipation.  He loves that his sister has a Playmobil princess one and he is the one who gets to open her doors and share with her.  He is also loving that there is one here for the Daycare children and that most of them are too little to care, so he gets to come and participate.

There is lots going on.  We are so busy this week that I can't even schedule in a yoga class. (Good thing that I went five times last week)  We have been out every evening since Saturday and we have something every night until Friday.  Hubby picked up the Christmas cards and I still have to write my letter to go with them, but then I think that everything is ready for the big day. (Except for wrapping, and I have been plugging away on that but it is rather daunting at the best of would help if I actually enjoyed it, but I really don't)  Yes, we finished shopping but we have been out and about more than once.  This time, it has been for Hubby.  He collects McFarlane toys and Wal-mart had two exclusives.  So when he suggested we go to Wal-mart after church on Saturday night, I was a little bit surprised but when I found out why, then it made sense.  He really doesn't love going out in the evening......I was even a little bit surprised that he joined me at church as he hasn't been going very much lately.  So off we went to Poco to the nearly-dead store and had fun looking, (but not finding) and then visiting with friends who we met while they were shopping as well.

Sundays are always filled with chores, and we headed off to Wal-mart again (this time into Langley) to actually find what we were looking for before going to Krause and JD Farms in the morning, came back and hit Superstore and Langley Farms for our regular things.  It really is the thrill of the chase, Hubby was very pleased that he found what he was looking for......we always do have fun when we are on the hunt.  Even though I really do find his collecting a bit silly at times, I really do enjoy watching how delighted he is in such small pleasures.  Hmmmmm, must be love or something......

Went to the Giants game on Sunday afternoon/evening, had the children's musical at church on Monday, and last night was our social at the neighbours.  Lots of fun was had by all and it was still an early night, but I was so tired on Monday night that I went to bed at 9:50.  Happens about every ten days, but exhaustion does eventually prevail.  I have been sleeping okay, but I sure would love to sleep through the night.  Dr gave me a new prescription for sleeping pills which I haven't filled yet, but he did explain to me how important sleeping is and that he knew I wouldn't abuse them. He is right, I actually still have some left from a few months ago and because I don't like taking them, then I don't.  Always think that if I just get four hours then I am good to go.  And I am.  Getting four hours.  So I am good to go.  Just every ten days or so, I need to catch up.

Tonight I am off to another childrens activity with the 'greats', tomorrow is Hometown Christmas with friends, and the Stanley Park train awaits for Friday.  Tis the season and it really is a whole lot of fun, especially when I get to spend it with the children.  I love Christmas and so do they!

I think that the best part of having a sub to call whenever I need one, is that I am able to get to my appointments.  You know those people who only work Monday through people like myself......who can only get to appointments if they take time off of work.  Because I am self-employed, it gets a bit tricky to get out during weekdays, so it is wonderful to be able to hire a sub and get to where I need to go.

Yesterday, I had my quarterly opthamologist appointment for 10:20 in the morning in New Westminster.  I love my eye doctor as he is always on time.....this time I went for an OCT test, which meant that I had to have drops.  I was still in and out of there in 20 pressures being 12 and 13 in my right and left taken, and sent away until April.  My next appointment wasn't for 2:10 in Coquitlam and I couldn't drive right away, so I was stuck in New West for the next couple of hours.  For all of you people who are concerned about my driving, I know that I am supposed to bring a driver with me but another option is to wander about for a couple of hours until the dilation drops wear off.  I usually just take the second option as it is always hard to find someone who isn't working and can take me........and to be honest, I enjoy the alone time when I am out.

I am finished Christmas shopping, so even though I still love to look, I can honestly say that Royal City Centre is not the most happening place, with very few stores and not much to look at.  I did end up at Black Bond Books, and that was fun and I bought a whole bunch of books that I really didn't need, but I truly love.  I am such a sucker for a good deal!  Spent over an hour looking and wandering and then headed to Lougheed Mall, as I knew that The Bay had a boot sale and I really like one of the food fair restaurants there.  I enjoyed looking at all the boots that I don't need, as well as watching women go silly grabbing boxes and rushing around like crazy.  Didn't buy any as I really don't need any......although I was a little surprised that I found some that fit, as I am a hard boot fit with my "bigger" calves.......and ended up in the children's clothes department.  Again, I am such a sucker for a good deal and ended up buying the blessings some more things to add to their things that they are getting for Christmas.  Again, nothing that they need, but cute stuff nonetheless.

By this time, I got to wondering why I was shopping when I didn't really need to be, so I bought a Starbucks (tried a gingerbread latte.....didn't like it as much as a pumpkin spice, but it was still good) and decided to go sit in the Dr's office in hopes of getting in early.  I know that was asking for a miracle, but miracles do happen and yesterday I guess that I needed one.  I got in 25 minutes early!!

I went to get my bloodwork results from the summer and turns out that yes, I am slightly hyper-thyroid. Again. Not enough to really tweak my meds, but I decided I need to anyway as I am way too energetic for my own good.  And I am anxious and irritated way too easily, not to mention sooooo forgetful, so thought it best that I go from 125mg to 112mg.  Right now, I take a different one every two days, and so for the next couple of months and so I can get through Christmas, I will take it down a notch.  I actually think that it is because my yoga moves are aiding with thyroid function as well, so between yoga and the busyness of the Christmas season, I am hyper.  Again.  Sigh.  You would think by now that I would figure it out.  Christmas is stressful  And you know, I don't even think that any more, but obviously my body does. I am looking forward to today as there is nothing on my schedule except to play and take care of children.......I really do love my job.......their smiles and hugs should be coming in the door any minute!

Three days in

It's December the 3rd.  Three days into December and the days are going by too fast already.  I am having a really nice Monday.  I had a really nice weekend.  There are only four little ones here today and two are sleeping.  At the same time.  And I have two others sitting behind me watching Dora the Explorer.  It's nice.  Not too sure how long it will last, but I will enjoy these few moments.

I just tried to do some work on the computer and my account locked me out. seems to be happening a lot lately.  I have too many passwords, and yes, I write them all down, but it is becoming a bit much.  Everyone wants capitals and numbers/signs in their passwords.  And they have to be so long now, not to mention that this particular government agency wants me to change it every few months.  Sigh.  I watched the lady at the bank pull out a little book with her passwords in them because of the same predicament.  And she says that her work makes her change some of hers daily.  Hence, the little book.  Maybe I might have to get one of those too! Because I don't always write them down in the same spot.  Even though I know that I have this particular password written down, it is not where I left it......I think I need a different system.  No, I know that I need a different system.

It was another fun action-packed weekend.  Breakfast with Santa with all of the "greats" was fabulous.  One of the local churches does an excellent job.....Santa and Friends, it is called.  The tooth fairy comes and gives out toothbrushes, Frosty the Snowman gives out carrots, Rudolph hands out Antler hats, Little Red Riding Hood hands out cookies and the Easter Bunny gives out mini-eggs.  There are 18 craft stations and even though the breakfast itself is mediocre....Pancakes, juice, coffee and is only $5 per person, and I think that it the best deal in town.  The children all get to sit with Santa and get a goodie bag and a picture.  So fun.....and my grand-daughters are not so impressed with the jolly guy in the red suit, but it was a really great morning.

We ended up meeting #3 and her family at the Tree Farm right after breakfast as it wasn't raining and they wanted to get their tree.  Very spontaneous, very fun and the blessings had a wonderful time searching for "the perfect Christmas tree."  Grandson's words, not mine.  Sweetheart cried when she saw Santa again, and that was from across the room.  Pretty Girl and Sweetheart both don't like him at all, and yet Great-nephew is 2 and doesn't mind him one bit.  Different kids, different personalities.

I volunteered at Christmas in the Park for the third year in a row and had a wonderful time, in spite of the rain.  It was off and on, all evening, but there were still lots of people and lots of smiles.  I learned at church on Sunday that we had 110 volunteers from Burnett, and that was more than the Christmas Festival Society even had.  Makes me proud to belong!

Hubby and I finished out Christmas shopping on Sunday afternoon, and now I just have to stay out of the stores so that I don't find any more things for anyone.  I love a good deal and I find that the closer it gets to Christmas, then the more good deals that show up.  I am done, and I know that no one needs anything else, but I still love to give.  So I just need to stay away.  It's not about presents, it is about presence.  Have a great Monday, Everyone!

In like a lion.....

.....and out like a lion.  That is November.  Yes, there were a few sunny days, but they were mostly at the beginning of the month and they are a very distant memory.  In all fairness, it is 8 degrees right now and drizzly.  Not like the better part of today that was pouring rain.  I am still waiting for my body to acclimatize and get used to being cold.  So far, it hasn't happened.  I am still cold and I am very thankful for Hot Yoga.  I actually have thought about the tropics a lot, and haven't booked myself to go, but that doesn't mean that I can't dream a little.  So far, it is just a dream.........and Hot Yoga is a reality and it is keeping me somewhat satisfied to stay in rainy, wet, cold Maple Ridge.  So far.

It was another busy week.  I am very excited for the weekend as we are attending our first Christmas event tomorrow morning and then our second in the evening.  Breakfast with Santa, and then I am volunteering at Christmas in the Park.  I am in the nativity, which is where I was two years ago, so it should be lots of fun.  I am hoping and praying that it doesn't rain, but then I am sure that they had umbrellas 2000 years ago, right?  In any case, this is one townsfolk who will be under one!

It was a full moon this week, and according to one of my teacher friends, "it was a bad full moon."  And by saying that, she claimed that the behaviours were worse than "normal full moon" behaviour.  She had lots of funny stories and had us all howling at Bible Study last night.  Did I mention before how much I love my Bible study ladies?  I love our Beth Moore study, but I especially enjoy spending my Thursday evenings with my friends.  I missed last week because Grandson and I went to Disney on was so much fun and we had a wonderful evening, even though we sat in the second row and he was a bit frightened of some of the characters.....but one of the best parts of this DVD series is that we can borrow it and not fall behind.  Mind you, I will admit that I am falling behind anyway as we took a week off, and that just made me lazy. Instead of using that extra time to get ahead of the game, I used it to slack off and get behind.  Not good, but I am only human.

And speaking of being human, oops, I did it again.  For the fourth time in 24 years, I hit a parked vehicle in my driveway.  That was Monday.  It was a bad start to a really wonderful Monday, as I went to a Bruce Springsteen concert that evening.  And it was a fabulous concert with a fabulous friend, but I digress.  And my friend was very forgiving but the scrape on her van is going to cost $2000 to repair.  After looking into several options, we are going to go the insurance route and my premium goes up $9 next year.  I am not proud of myself, but am very grateful for van insurance this week.  And my van......well, the almost 19 year old tank that it is, needed a new headlight.  My wonderful hubby works for the company, so it cost $70.  Sigh.  Not one of my finer moments, that's for sure.

Hubby and I went out for dinner tonight.  Applebee's has disappeared and in it's place is Chad's West Coast Grill.  I had a salmon burger and was suitably impressed.  It was as delicious as my fish burger from the White Spot last week, and I have had two really great meals out in the past week.  Hubby had the Bad As# Burger and he said it was quite greasy.  I will go back, but he is not so sure.  We came home and I went to yoga.......I am home now and have started a load of laundry.  Just another boring Friday night.....but you know, after my busy week, I kind of like boring.  Won't last long.....I will enjoy it while I can!

Computers and Programs

This post will not have any pictures.  It's not because I haven't tried, but my picture file is too full.  It states that I will have to buy some space if I want upload photos.  I cannot even count how many times that I have tried to delete them and it doesn't work.  My iPad app has been telling me for weeks that it has no more that means I haven't been using it to blog very much.  My solution for this problem is to:

1: Start another blog
2: Figure out how to delete my pictures from my blogger upload
3: Wait and see if this problem works itself out by itself
4: Blog without adding any photos
5: Buy some space
6: Quit blogging

And just in case you are wondering what I am going to do.....I haven't really even considered #6.  I just had to add it to see what your reaction would be.

When I started this blog five and a half years ago, I was a different person.  It really was all about me.  Not any is more about the people who I love.  And even though Facebook was in existence, I didn't have a Facebook account. Yet.  All the people who I know and I used to read their blogs, don't blog any more.  They are all active on Facebook.  I am probably one of the only people from five years ago who blog regularly.  And I will continue to keep it up.  Because pictures are such a huge part of my life, I cannot imagine doing this without them, but for today, and maybe this week......there won't be any pictures.  So sorry.....but I think that I am more disappointed than you are.

It's been a busy week.  I have been enjoying the fact that I have Julie back on Mondays and I have been going to yoga at noon.  So fun and so great to get out in the day.  That was the only day I made it this week until Friday night and I really, really missed it.  So did my back and shoulders.  And especially my right hip.  My favourite instructor tells us that women hold onto their tension in their hips and men keep it in their shoulders. Well, it must have been a tense week, because until I went to yoga on Friday night and Saturday morning, my hip was a bit achy.  Not any more.  I love Deep, Stretch and Relax and it obviously loves me too.  I did try a Hot Freedom Flow 10 days ago and it was hard.  I lost 2.6 pounds by going (all water) but that was probably one of the reasons that I hurt this week too.  A hard class and then no DS and Relax to work it out.  I am not ready for the next level yet and I am perfectly fine knowing this.  I will get there one day and I am okay with going 3-4 times a week and getting there gradually.

Hubby and I had fun on Tuesday night as we went with a couple of the miracles to a special Shopping night at Coquitlam Centre.  I went last year and had so much fun and this year, half of my family came and had lots of fun too.  I still think that the sales are better than on Boxing Day, and even though I personally didn't do as well as I did last year, everyone I was with did well and we will all go back again. Miracle #3 did a lot of her Christmas shopping and tells me that she is almost done.  I am too, but I have been doing a little bit all the time.  I really do need to just go to the Apple Store now, and then I will be done too!

Licensing came by on Friday and it went okay.  They actually scheduled an appointment instead of just showing up unannounced, but that just means that I should have all my paperwork completed.  Well, I did.....but it took the better part of this week to have it ready for them.  And of course, she still found flaw with it.  What drives me crazy is how one LO will say fine to the way it is done, and then another one shows up and it's the same as it has always been, but not to their satisfaction.  It will always be my paperwork.....but consistency on their parts would be nice too.  And this time, this particular LO was concerned about my outdoor play policy and the fact that my children play on my back sundeck.  She measured the space between the rails and it is too large.  They are 4 inches apart and are supposed to be 3 and 1/2.  Sooooooooo.........I have used this same sundeck for fifteen years, and this is now no longer okay.  Very frustrating.  But the good news is that I have until Spring to figure out how to make it "safe."

We received our preview file for our family pics last weekend and it was fun to see them and choose which one we will use on our Christmas card.  Again, the computer program took forever to load and it is a new program, so that took some time to figure out and get straight.  My wonderful husband spent some time this afternoon figuring out what we needed on a CD and how to place our order.  I love this man so much!  He really is my greatest support and loves me even when I am not so lovable.  Computers and their programs make it so that I am not so easy to love.....or even like very much!

We babysat two of the blessings last night and they had a sleepover.  Grandson lives for sleepovers and his sister did very well too.  She is getting more and more comfortable with sleeping here.  I would love to insert a picture of them having fun with some of the new Christmas decorations, but I guess I don't have to tell you why there aren't any.  Sigh.

The sun came out today and I see that lots of our neighbours have their Christmas lights on and turned them on already too.  Hubby did ours a few weeks ago and thinks that we should have them on as well. I am still undecided, but as he pointed really is only a month away.  30 days.  Wow. It really will be here before I know it!

Tender Moments

This picture makes me smile.  I love how the two lovely moms are holding their very precious first-borns and they are showing their love for one another.

These guys were too cute for words.  They danced their night away.......and loved every minute of it.  As the dancing all started, Great-nephew tried to take Sweetheart's hand and lead her onto the dance floor.  She was too little to understand what was going on but all the children really enjoyed the music and had a great time that night.

Yesterday, Hubby and I did our annual Christmas photo shoot with the blessings.  And they were so cute to watch and I can only hope that we got some good ones.  Truth be told, I always like the out-takes so much too, but they never really ever make the Christmas card.  Pretty Girl came back to our house for dinner with her cousins and we sent her parents home for a couple of hours to themselves.  DIL had her gall bladder out last week and she was tired after their busy day.  It was such a fun evening!  When we took her home later, the song Moves like Jagger came on the radio and she awed us as she sang along with all the words in perfect tune too.  Musical girl, and she gets that very honestly.  Her Mommy used to sing at church when I met her. I am sure that she still sings all the time, just not in front of the church.

Church was awesome today as Burnett celebrated their 75th Anniversary with a guest pastor from the 90's, and a baked ham lunch.  My friend's girls were baptized, we sang some great songs and we enjoyed our fellowship time.  I love my church family and it is events like these that make me realize it even more.  God has been very present all weekend in my life and for that I am eternally grateful.  We all need perfectly perfect weekends like this to make us all realize how lucky that we really are! (Except it really doesn't have anything to do with luck....just sayin'.)

The Lord directs the steps of the godly.
He delights in every detail of their lives.
Though they stumble, they will never fail,
for the Lord holds them by the hand.

I know that I am always saying that I can't believe how fast the time goes by, but it really is true.  Four weeks have gone by since we were celebrating the wedding of my niece and her husband.  Their photographer teased us all by putting this one and only picture up on Facebook the other day, and now we all just want to see more.  So much fun that night, and I just love the Fall colours.  The newlyweds are home from their honeymoon in Costa Rica and I haven't talked to them yet, but I hear that it was their best vacation ever!

I learned that my cousin's son got married last weekend in Banff, and was grateful for the pictures that were posted on Facebook so that I could have a peek at their picturesque celebration in a virtual Winter Wonderland.  Congratulations to Peter and Leanna!

I spent last night and today at a Women's Conference at my church.  My friend Jennifer asked me to help her out last year and I was feeling rather blessed to be a part of a dream reaching fruition.  It was a great conference called Dare to get Real and I am sure that it was a first of many more to come.  As much as I really didn't feel like going to yet "another women's conference", it was a wonderful event and I am glad that I went.

Silly Eyes

This is one of the toddlers who come to visit me every day.  She can do this by request.  As a matter of fact, she has been doing it for almost a year.  Quite the little ham, and she really is the only little person who I have met who can go cross-eyed when asked.  She makes us laugh!!

Tuesday, November 13, 2012

Sweetheart is 18 months old today.  And she is just over 26 pounds and is 32 and 3/4 inches tall.  She fits a size 18 month perfectly in clothing and a size 5.5 shoe.  I think she is tiny.  And she really isn't, but compared to our other two blessings, she is.  Her brother and her cousin were 29 and 30 pounds at the same age.  They are all sooooo different!

In the past month, she has turned into a full-fledged toddler.  Her words are muliplying daily and she was saying Dada and Mama at the beginning of the week.  She now says Mommy and Daddy.  She got her top two eye teeth this week. And because of her easy-going complacent personality, she is a pretty good little teether.  Yes, she has her moments, but I really do have to say that she is one of the most obedient one and a half year olds that I have ever met.  She listens really, really well.

We have a lot of fun together and she is still very attached to her "Gampa", but will often come to me and ask to come "up". I cannot resist her.......she is quite independent and has never been very cuddly, so I love little moments where she will stop and come and sit with me.

Little Miss Serious was in a mood for her family pictures last month and the photographer tried very hard to get some smiles.  In the end, there were a couple, but this one is simply adorable.  I smile every time I look at it.  This is the age that she really is turning into her own, and she was expressing herself.  I love this girl, more than I can ever say!!  She helps to make my life complete!

Profoundly Thankful

Today is Remembrance Day.  I liked the analogy on Facebook where it said that on Thanksgiving we are thankful for what we have and on Remembrance Day we are thankful for the people who fought for what we have.  I went to church this morning and sang O Canada and prayed for our freedom and for the people who fought for our freedom.  We observed a minute of silence at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.  Canada is a great country and I am proud to be Canadian.

Hubby took this past week off of work.  He had one lone week left and if he didn't take it this year, then he would lose it.  Soooooooooo, this is the week that he chose.  It is not necessarily the week that I would have chose, but he liked the idea of having an extra day with the long weekend.  He accomplished a lot.  Winterized the yard, painted some outdoor trim, put up the outdoor Christmas lights, and did some major tidying of the garage and the storage room.  He went to the dump once and recycling twice and I know he worked really hard, but it barely made a dent.  We have too much junk.  Just sayin'.

I had hired a helper on Wednesday and so Hubby and I went for a walk on the dike in the afternoon.  It has been sunny most of the weather-wise, he did choose a good week to be home......and on this particular Wednesday afternoon, it was 15 degrees and sunny.  After our walk on the dike, we went to Starbucks and I had my favourite pumpkin spice latte and he had a scone.  It was a lovely way to spend a sunny Wednesday in November.  We also went to watch Grandson in his last skating lesson.  And yeah, he can skate.  Full on gliding and skating around the ice.  Pretty impressive for only being four and a half.  He is proud of himself and we are very proud of him too.

We admired all the pumpkins that were left at the Pumpkin Patch this year.......and wondered what would become of them now that October is over.  Will they just rot in the field?  Or will they get carted away somewhere to get used for food?  Don't really know, but we did wonder.......that is a LOT of pumpkins out there.

I know that those clouds above look rather threatening, but it didn't rain at all.  As a matter of fact, by the end of our 45 minutes out there, we had both undone our coats and had a fairly good cardio workout.  Did I mention already how nice it was to get out and walk in the warm sunshine?

We really do live in a beautiful province.....

And all these birds went completely quiet as we walked past.  If you look really closely, there must be over a hundred of them.  We found that rather interesting as they were chirping like crazy as we approached and didn't start chirping again until we were a few yards away.  Shy, I guess.

Hubby and I went to the States yesterday and spent the whole day shopping.  It took an hour and a half to get through the border line-up and it was worth it.  Found lots of good sales and had a lot of fun buying Christmas presents.  We were supposed to meet my sister and brother-in-law for lunch in Bellingham but the traffic was so bad in Burlington coming back from the outlet mall that we changed it to later in the day.  We ended up in Birch Bay for dinner and my sister-in-law cooked us a delicious meal ala Trader Joes. Delicious!  And coming come, there was a five minute wait at the border and it took us 45 minutes doorstep to doorstep. The drive home was much shorter than the drive there.  At least it was sunny, but the warmth from earlier in the week had disappeared as it was 3 degrees. Brrrrrrr.  It was actually 0 degrees, once the sun went down.

Today has flown and shopping, out for lunch at The Old Spaghetti Factory and dinner at Wah Wing after the Giants game.  They won in a shootout and it was a really good game. The Giants aren't doing so good this year, but maybe this is the turning point for them.  I mentioned to Hubby that it felt like we hadn't been to a game in a long time, but it really was only 2 and a half weeks ago.  And now the rain is back and I am tired.  I have a few social things tomorrow and it is Family Dinner night, so there will be a few groceries to pick up.  Haven't even decided what we are having yet, and that is the joy of having a three day weekend.  I have the extra day to catch up.  I love long weekends!

Hallowe'en Memories

Grandson loved the entire Hallowe'en process.  He looks forward to everything with great anticipation and this year was no exception.  Here he is, just about to carve pumpkins with his family.

And Sweetheart.  Well, she is 17 and 1/2 months and her moods change every minute.  She loved the entire idea of carving the pumpkins......

......but didn't want any part of it, once they got started.  She cried.  Didn't like being encouraged to touch it at all.  Isn't she simply adorable?

And after a while, she did get down and watch.  Just as long as nobody said that she had to touch it!

Grandson loves life and lives his to the fullest.  When his Mommy took him on an adventure on Tuesday morning, he was thrilled with the entire experience.  He is growing up so fast and is now 47.6 pounds and 44 and 3/4 inches.  He weighs the same as he did in August, but has grown an entire inch since the Summer.

He loved the zip-trek last year and loved it again this year.  And now he is big enough to do it all by himself!

He can swing on a tire with some help from his Mom!

He loved the train ride too!

And sat for his yearly picture with the pumpkins.  Sweetheart wanted no part of it.....she cried when she came out of the stroller.....such a funny little girl, lol.  Our big boy co-operated though, and he usually does.  He is wonderful little boy, full of compassion and love.  He is quite excited that he is bigger than his cousin Chase right now and he says it's because he eats his spaghetti and meatballs.  He is eating pretty good again......not nearly as particular as he used to be.  Still loves pizza, chicken, rice, pancakes, waffles, cheese, strawberries, pickles, yogurt and cereal......but will try a few more things when encouraged.  Grandchildren really are one of God's greatest gifts.  We love them all so very, very much!

Quiet Rainy Saturday

It rained today. What a surprise.  Not.  My Dad used to say that it only rains once a year in Vancouver.  Starts in November and ends in March.  This year, I think he might be right.  Of course, it didn't help that we had a glorious September and first part of October.

SIL is away right now.  He went to Oregon and Idaho with work, so #3 and her blessings came for dinner last night and spent the evening with us.  Well, mostly with her Dad, as I took off to yoga with friends.  By the time I came home, they weren't here too much longer and needed to get home and go to bed.

#3 had to work today, so we had the blessings for the better part of today too.  We took Grandson to soccer.......Sweetheart and I left after 20 minutes as we were cold and wet......and had fun with our favourite four year old and one year old.  Sweetheart is at that cute age of learning new words every day so she is pretty funny.  And Grandson is getting way too independent.  Sigh.

After they left, we headed out to get a few chores done and ended up at the grocery store today instead of tomorrow.  Note to self.  It's just as busy on a Saturday as on a Sunday.  No biggie, but it took quite a while to get through to the cashier.  These are the kind of days that I am glad that we don't have little children with us.  Makes waiting and being patient just a little bit easier to take.

After our delicious dinner of salmon and salad, we VOD'd a movie called A Little Bit of Heaven.  I liked made me cry at the end, but it was still a very good thought-provoking movie.  Hubby has cleaned up the dishes and I have gotten a few things ready for tomorrow, and now he is sitting in front of the TV and I am in front of the computer.  The day will fly by tomorrow as we have already managed to book it up with church and social time.  And a little bit of shopping too. Tis the season.  And if anyone is wondering, yes I have been playing Christmas CD's and booking Christmas events.  I have at least half of my shopping done and if all goes well, will probably have the rest done by the end of the week.  Woohoo!

Praying hard and laying low.  That is me right now, and has been for the last couple of months.  I have a crazy life.  And I haven't really been sleeping as well as I would like.  I have tried to get to the root of the problem, and I have sleeping aids to help me......but I still haven't got this sleeping thing beat.  I am good, but not great.  And I do pray a lot.  I am alone a lot, and I have one of those brains that never shuts off.  Yes, I think too much.

Yoga has really helped me to relax, and ujjayi breaths are the best thing I have ever learned.  One of the yoga instructors told me that is how she goes to sleep every night.  Another told me that I will never need a cardio workout if I do them properly, because it's good for my heart.  Good to know.  I have made it to yoga at least four times a week since I started and I am still just as passionate as I was when I began.  My sister came for her free trial and she enjoyed it as much as a few of my friends who are also coming and have now registered for a year.  My cousin and her husband also go.  We have all figured out, that it makes us feel better.  And I have lost seven pounds. Yay me!  Now, this just brings me back to my original pre-summer weight as I have been losing and gaining now for awhile.  But I am finally back to where I was last Spring.......and I actually look better as the yoga is helping me tone and define.  My clothes fit differently.  My visalus shakes are starting to work too.  They worked for Hubby right away......and now I am seeing results as well.

It was Hubby's birthday yesterday.  My Dad's too.  It was a work day and of course the day after Hallowe'en, so it was low-key.  #3 cooked her Dad dinner and I took off to Bible Study......we will have a family dinner next week.  #3 has been cooking us dinner quite a few times this past month.  Love it!  As much as I love our Monday nights, it has been a real treat to go out and have someone else love on me.  My friends and I talk a lot about self-care, and going out for meals and coffee dates are one of our ways that we need to take care of ourselves.  #3 showed up with a coffee for me yesterday too, as she was on her way to do a pick-up at the pre-school.  So sweet!  And I cannot count how many times that I had a pumpkin spice latte last month......they are such a delight and I am going to miss them now that Christmas flavours are next.  SIL and #3 love them as much as me, and brought me one on more than one occasion........LOVE THEM!  Coffee and clean, warm laundry fresh from the dryer.....these are some of the things that get me through the day right now.  And of course, hot yoga, but that's a given.

We had a Hallowe'en Party!

This was rather interesting, and very fun, to say the very least.  Miracle #3 came over with her daycare children and we dressed everyone in their costumes and put them in front of the camera.  The fact that they were all awake at the same time was a miracle all by itself, but that they stayed in the same place for a whole minute or more......well, that was a surprise!

There are 11 children here, folks!  They are between the ages of 13 months to 4 and a half.  7 of them are 2 and under.  4 of them are 20 months and under. Aren't they cute?  From right to left, top to bottom, we have a bat, a chicken, Batman, a teddy bear, a train engineer, a tiger, a care bear, a princess, a knight, Snow White and a policeman.

We took quite a few pictures, and there was not one where they were all looking at the camera and everyone had their eyes open.  But they were very patient and very cooperative.  I love these kids......way more than I can express into words.  Two more little ones arrived after this, a pumpkin and a strawberry, but we didn't get them lined up and sitting again.  Too bad, but I am very pleased that we were even able to get these ones taken.

This is the one that they were deciding that they were all done.  One little teddy bear was losing her hat and the train engineer was leaving the couch.  The four older ones are looking a little bit bored.  But no one cried.  Bonus.

We had a very successful party in the morning and very nice quiet afternoon.  Two of these guys went to pre-school and everyone but Jade had an afternoon nap.  She did crafts and left a little bit earlier than usual with her Mommy and her brother.........I saw her again later when she came trick or treating.  Soaking wet.  It poured rain tonight, which is one of the reasons why we probably got only 35 kids at our door.  First Hallowe'en night that it rained in 18 years but it didn't dampen anyone's moods at all.  Lots of smiles, and lots of Thank-you's and wishes of Happy Hallowe'en.  I have never been a Hallowe'en lover, but it was a good night.  And tomorrow, I can start playing Christmas carols!!
