We had a Hallowe'en Party!

This was rather interesting, and very fun, to say the very least.  Miracle #3 came over with her daycare children and we dressed everyone in their costumes and put them in front of the camera.  The fact that they were all awake at the same time was a miracle all by itself, but that they stayed in the same place for a whole minute or more......well, that was a surprise!

There are 11 children here, folks!  They are between the ages of 13 months to 4 and a half.  7 of them are 2 and under.  4 of them are 20 months and under. Aren't they cute?  From right to left, top to bottom, we have a bat, a chicken, Batman, a teddy bear, a train engineer, a tiger, a care bear, a princess, a knight, Snow White and a policeman.

We took quite a few pictures, and there was not one where they were all looking at the camera and everyone had their eyes open.  But they were very patient and very cooperative.  I love these kids......way more than I can express into words.  Two more little ones arrived after this, a pumpkin and a strawberry, but we didn't get them lined up and sitting again.  Too bad, but I am very pleased that we were even able to get these ones taken.

This is the one that they were deciding that they were all done.  One little teddy bear was losing her hat and the train engineer was leaving the couch.  The four older ones are looking a little bit bored.  But no one cried.  Bonus.

We had a very successful party in the morning and very nice quiet afternoon.  Two of these guys went to pre-school and everyone but Jade had an afternoon nap.  She did crafts and left a little bit earlier than usual with her Mommy and her brother.........I saw her again later when she came trick or treating.  Soaking wet.  It poured rain tonight, which is one of the reasons why we probably got only 35 kids at our door.  First Hallowe'en night that it rained in 18 years but it didn't dampen anyone's moods at all.  Lots of smiles, and lots of Thank-you's and wishes of Happy Hallowe'en.  I have never been a Hallowe'en lover, but it was a good night.  And tomorrow, I can start playing Christmas carols!!

October came in like a lamb and is going out like a lion.  It was sooooooo sunny and warm for the first 12 days of the month, and these pictures were taken on the Thanksgiving long weekend.  Sunny.  Warm.  A very distant memory.  Pretty Girl and her family headed out to Pitt Lake on a Saturday afternoon and I just love all of the pictures.

Our little girl is officially two and a half, and there isn't a shred of babyhood left.  She is a sweet, carefree little girl now and she helps to make our lives complete.

She is very much a Daddy's girl when she wants to be.  She seems to have a case of Mommyitis right now, but she really does love her Daddy very, very much!  They are really good pals.

Independent and high-spirited.  Has more energy than most children I know and is so kind and considerate too.  She cares very much about all of her people, and is very loving.

She is full of wonder and beauty.

She weighs 33 pounds and is 39.5 inches tall.  Is still wearing a Size 4 in clothing and just headed into a 7.5 shoe size.   She is very tall and most people think that she is older than she is......she is loaded with personality......and we love her to the moon and back again!

20 days

This is from my phone, today.
What a difference 20 days makes.  Today was one of the nicest days we have had in a few weeks, and it hard to believe that almost three weeks ago, it was still feeling like Summer.  Not any more.  It's Fall.  Cold, wet rainy Fall.  And I know lots of people who love Fall.  Not me.  It just means that Winter is coming and it's going to get colder and that means that I am going to get colder.  Being hypo-thyroid definitely has it's disadvantages when it is cold.  And the thing is, the cold hasn't really even arrived yet. But it is coming.  I know that I just have to change my attitude.

This is from my phone, on October 8th.
Thanksgiving Day was so sunny and warm and lovely.  But ever since the 12th of the month, it has been on a downward slide.  It was a nice surprise to get some sunshine today and Hubby and I had a wonderful day.  I started out at church this morning listening to a great sermon on grace.  Last week was about forgiveness........I kept thinking that I sure know a lot of people who should have been in church last week.  The last couple of weeks have been really good and I have really enjoyed going to church for the last few months.

Hubby and I spent the day shopping.  We actually hadn't been out and about, just two of us for the day, for a while.  At least it sure felt like a while.  We had fun and bought a few Christmas presents and did some chores, but mostly just had a really nice day out.  We stopped for a late lunch at JD Farms, and thoroughly enjoyed our hot turkey sandwiches.  Mine was too much so I brought it home for dinner, added a greek salad and it way too delicious.  We also stopped at Krause Farms and didn't realize it was the last day that it was open for the season.  They will re-open for Christmas, but it was nice to get the last of the local berries......who would have ever thought that we could buy local raspberries at the end of October?!.......and a bit of fresh veggies and apples.  That was actually the spot where we spent the least amount of money.....our visits to Carter's, Hallmark, Toy Traders, and Wiser's were not as kind to our pocketbooks.  Oh well, it was sure fun!

Yesterday was one of those busy and great Saturdays.  I started my day at yoga and we were going to go watch Grandson's soccer game, but it was sooooooo cold and wet, that we ended up staying home and watching an episode of CSI that I had PVR'rd.  Kind of lazy. don't you think?  We had an appointment with our financial planner in the afternoon as we needed to get some retirement planning done.  Feels good, and it was a very good appointment.  Hard to believe that Hubby will be 57 on Thursday, and even though retirement is still a ways away, we needed to start making a plan.

We went to Paliotti's for dinner and that is always a was #3's birthday celebration and a good time was had by all.  She got a cold for her 30th birthday and doesn't feel all that great, but we all enjoyed a wonderful meal surrounded by awesome friends and family.  She had made a cake for herself and we headed back to her house for some more social time.

It is getting to be very close to bedtime, so I really do need to fold another load of laundry and get a few things done before I get there.  I slept terribly last thinking that as much as I enjoy causes me to wake up and think too much about things that don't really need to be thought about.  I know that I will sleep better tonight.....and the reason I know that is it probably couldn't get much worse.  I think I was awake from 2 am onwards.  Good-night everyone!

My family

Here is my family, minus 1.  We all got dressed up to party on Saturday night, and my nephew-in-law was able to take a few pictures of my beautiful family.  He did photo-shop one person in this picture, but I am not going to tell you who, because I don't really think that you can tell. I have critiqued it quite carefully and I cannot see what he did.  I would have never known if he didn't tell me, but to line up ten people and have us all actually look in one direction is pretty much impossible.  Especially when little children are involved.

We all had such a great time on Saturday night and this week has flown by.  It is Friday, and I am really looking forward to going to yoga tonight.  I haven't been since Tuesday as we had Giants tickets on Wednesday and I went to Bible Study last night.  I have missed the last two times, and had a wonderful evening with my ladies.  We are doing the Beth Moore, Breaking Free study and it is excellent.  I have to put more into it to get more out of it, because there is a lot of studywork and bible-reading.  Leslie and I have been getting some of it done, but we have to do more.  My life is starting to calm down a little bit, so I just need to apply myself daily instead every few days. By writing it down on here, then perhaps I will be more accountable.  I laughed at my one friend last night as she told me that she has already done this study once and she hasn't broken free.....she just picked the lock.  So she is back to do it again.  My group of bible study ladies are a very fun group!

It is #3's birthday today.  She is 30.  How did it happen so fast that I now have five children in their 30's?  Yes, I know that I only gave birth to three of those five, but I have one son and one daughter who married into this crazy family.  Yes, they actually chose to be part of us.....because no matter what anyone tells don't just marry your spouse, you marry his/her family too!  #3 started her day at the clinic, and it turns out that she and Sweetheart just have colds, but better to be safe than sorry.  Sore throats and coughs, so it is best that she planned a dinner for herself tomorrow instead of today.  Tonight will be low-key and that is probably best.  As she told me, she went grocery shopping on her 5th anniversary, it is fine to stay home with her favourite people on her 30th.  She sounds way too much like her practical and logical.  Although, I would have never said that about myself when I was 30......I think I am now.  I married Mr. Practical/Logical and he was also my common sense too.

Today is a very gray day.  It reminds me very much of that day 30 years ago that I laboured for an hour and a half to give birth to our second daughter......Drizzly and cold.  Looks to be that way all weekend too, but it's snowing and -7 in Calgary right now.  I will take rain over snow any day......although it does make me long for a tropical vacation.  Stay tuned......I have the hot yoga to keep me warm in the evening, but Hawaii is definitely calling my name......or maybe even Mexico or Cuba.

The Bride and Groom

My sister sent me a bunch of wonderful pictures yesterday, but I have been having computer issues this past couple of days. Both PC, and Apple. I don't really know if it is all Shaw's fault or just a little bit. Technical support is good, but not great. As soon as they fix one thing, then something else happens. As someone told me many, many years ago. No computer problem is a small problem. Phone or text me if you need me today..... Right now, those are the only sources of communication that appear to work properly.  Our newest married couple set off on their honeymoon adventure yesterday at 5pm and will be arriving at their destination at 2 pm today. They have 2 stopovers because they couldn't go through Dallas, but I am sure that the travel will all be worth it once they arrive at their tropical oasis!

Wedding Day

October 20th, 2012 dawned cold and clear and the clouds moved in as the day progressed. It was nothing like what the forecast was and that was cold and raining.  It was cold.....but it didn't rain until later on in the evening.  Sleet actually appeared around 5 o'clock and it was drizzly off and on for the remainder of the evening.  A perfect day for the princess and the prince.  And we were at a wonderful venue on top of Burnaby Mountain called the Diamond Alumni Centre and I recommend it highly.  The view was amazing as we looked out over Burrard Inlet and Deep Cove, but the love in the room was immense and we all had a fantastic time.  Believe it or not, I didn't bring my camera so these are a couple that I took on my phone and am depending on my sisters and my children to share theirs.  I saw some on the camera that my niece and her husband were using and I already know that there will be lots of memories to share. soon as some get to me, then I will post them.  I am still re-living and remembering a perfect weekend.  Wedding on Saturday, church and gift-opening on Sunday......and then Grandson and I went to a 4:30 performance by Raffi.  Downtown Vancouver.  It was at the Performing Arts Theatre and Grandson and I loved Raffi, but he was most impressed with the high ceilings and the lights.  Gotta love how four year olds think.  He also wondered when we might be going to Justin Beiber. Uh......sorry hon, that one isn't for Grandma to take you to......perhaps someone else can do that when you're 7 or 8.  What a kid!  And who told him who Justin Beiber is, anyway?

Today is the day!

Today is the day that the Lord hath made......Let us rejoice and be glad in it!!  My niece is getting married today and I am so excited for her!  She is meeting her Prince Charming on a mountaintop at 2, and I cannot even put into words how thrilled I am for them.  They got engaged on Diamond Head last year and are getting married at the Diamond Club.  And yes, she has a splendid diamond on her left hand!!

This is my beautiful niece with my beautiful sister.  We had such a great time two weeks ago at her stagette, and now today is the day!

This is my beautiful niece with two of my other beautiful sisters.  They are twins.....can you tell?
These two were born just six months apart.  #3 got married on another lovely day in October, 5 years ago.  And it's not quite as sunny and warm as it was that day, but it isn't raining today.  The sun is out with some clouds and it is cold (8 degrees....brrrrr), but it isn't raining!!

My niece and I......we all had so much fun that day!

Two reasons

This is why I missed Bible Study tonight.  I had every intention of going, but a little miracle was born this morning.......Lily came into the world around 2 am this morning, weighing just over four pounds.  She arrived on her brother's fifth birthday and now these two blessings have another cousin. I know that I could have gone over and babysat these guys at their house, but they came for an impromptu Thursday night sleepover.  Two sleepovers in less than a week!  I am one lucky Grandma!!

Monday, October 15, 2012

It is monsoon-type raining.  The sun did show up for a short while today, but it's raining again and I am cold.  I went to yoga tonight and it was the first time all day that I felt warm.  I better get used to the rain and the cold.  It really has only just is only October and I live on the west coast.

I appreciated getting out this morning to the school in the semi-sunshine.  My little ones are getting used to their new routine and they are starting to follow me along like little ducklings.  I love it.  They are also getting older and understand things better.  Going to MyGym is a bit more tricky because of the stairs, but again, they are all getting very used to their routine and are listening better and better all the time.  I didn't have my personal assistant today......I missed her.  She went to Seattle to go wedding dress shopping for her daughter and as much as I thought that I could do the day without her.....I did do it, but I still missed the help, and especially the conversation.  Julie has been working full-time since August and she is finished that in a couple of weeks.  I will be very happy when she is available to me again.  I miss her too, and so do the children.  Jade asks about her weekly.

We walked to get the after-schoolers today because I had a seat belt issue.  We left here at 1:30 and arrived back just after 3.  We managed to get home just before the rain came back and I thought that was well done.  One of my two year olds walked all the way there and all the way back.  When we went to Charlotte Diamond last week, he did the same thing.  He is totally opposed to getting onto the back of the sit-and-stand and getting a ride.  I am sure he will sleep well tonight.

It felt weird not having Family Dinner Night tonight.  I begged off for the month of October as it is so busy and we have so many other family events.  My niece is getting married this weekend and Miracle #3 has a birthday next weekend.  Hubby and my Dad's birthday are the week after that, not to mention that Hallowe'en is in there too.  I thought September is busy......October is busier.  This year, anyway.  My sister's friend won two Raffi tickets and she gave them to me and Grandson.  It means that we won't be able to stay long at the gift opening on Sunday, but it's Raffi, and it's Row 7 of the right orchestra.  I already know that Grandson and I will have a wonderful time!

Great-nephew's birthday party was really fun yesterday and I am looking forward to seeing the pictures.  He had a Mickey Mouse theme and it was in his Grandma's clubhouse.  So fun and we all had a great time.

After the party, Hubby, #4 and I went to Costco and got a few things.  We spent less than $300 so I would consider it a small shop.  Christmas decorations have been there since July but they were demo-ing eggnog yesterday.  Brings it all into's closer than we think.  My sister-in-law told me at Thanksgiving that she was off to the trailer for a few days to start Christmas shopping as it will be here before we know it.  I know she is right, especially because it has been so sunny and warm until this Christmas will creep up quicker than it usually does.  But I find that it does do that every year anyway.  The older I get, the faster my life is passing by.  Cliche.....but true.

I have been sleeping better this past few days.  I don't want to get too optimistic, but I hope and pray it stays this way.  I ran out of Brain Calm on Friday and I don't really want to go get more.  I have been taking a sleeping pill about once a week too, but I wait to see if I can fall asleep first and then take it as a last resort.  The other night I couldn't go to sleep no matter how hard I tried.  This is new to me. I can always go to sleep.  It's just staying asleep.  So by 1:45 am, I finally went a took a half a Zopiclone and it gave me four hours.  That is really all I really need to function....but I really need that four hours.  And I have been getting I would call that success.  Every so often, I will go five or six and that is even better, but I am happy with four.  There is lots going on right now.  I think it all calms down in a couple of weeks or so.........and on that note, I will head off to bed.  I try to get there by 11 at the latest and it is getting close to that now.  Good-night all!

He is 2!

My great-nephew is two years old today. And he comes to my daycare three days a week. I love him way too much. Such a gentle little boy, full of wonder and personality. He has shown me some two year old attitude this past month and it is so funny. To me. It is so hard not to laugh, but he is testing out his independence. He is having a big birthday party at noon today, and we are very excited to go and celebrate with him and his family.

Boots and babies

Sweetheart got new boots yesterday and if she could have slept in them, then I think she would have. She loves footwear (anybody's or any size will do) and is loving baby dolls too. She is so girly, and she is so sweet. At 17 months, she is trying to say new words every day but isn't really all that chatty. Yet. She used to call me Butgum or Baga, but as of Friday I am Mamma. I like that much better!

Saturday, October 13, 2012

I have been extraordinarily busy.  Like so busy that this is the first Saturday night in a month, that I am home.  There are two little blessings sleeping upstairs so that their Mommy and Daddy can celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary, but we are at home and I am really pleased.  It has been a very busy three or more weeks.  And this weekend has still been busy so far, but we are home this evening.  Hubby is watching TV and I am on the computer.  Not my iPad, but the computer.  That is rare too.

It is official.  I am addicted to hot yoga.  I started on September 23rd and have not looked back. That first week, I was at the yoga studio six times.  Last week and this week, I only made it there four times, and my chiropractor advised me today that I should keep it up.  I didn't need my monthly adjustment, and I cancelled massage therapy for this week too. Because, for the first time in 25 years, my back and shoulders don't hurt.  Not. At. All.  It is still very weird to me how well I can move and pick up the toddlers, and how the carseats can be moved back and forth and I have not an ache or a pain.  The other night when I went for a walk, I really did feel like I could sprint.  And no, I didn't do it because I really do know my limitations, but I have more energy than I know what to do with.  And I feel terrific because of hot yoga!  I am very happy to have finally found a type of exercise to be passionate about, and that I am sort of even good at.  I am flexible.  Who knew?  Certainly not me, but I can do a frog and pigeon with ease and when we have to curve our bodies into a letter C, mine goes further than most.  My instructor praised me last night, and other people have commented how well I can do Happy Baby.  It's a gift.  One that is good for me and one that I love to do!

I started out today at yoga at 8:15.  I also went last night at 6:45.  It is the first time that I have gone twice in such a short time, but it went well.  I sort of wondered why for the first ten minutes this morning, but then I got my groove.  It was good.  And I am glad that I went.  Hurried home so that Hubby and I could go to Grandson's soccer game at 10, but it was pouring rain and so the change of plans was to leave Sweetheart here with me and Hubby joined SIL and Grandson on the field.  #3 was working at a wedding and SIL was very grateful that our little girl didn't have to go out in the downpour.  Had Chiro appts, we went back to pick up Grandson and I met Chase, his sister and his Daddy at Jungle Jac's for a couple of hours. (another change of plans from going to the Apple Barn) Then I whisked Grandson home to get ready for soccer pics.  What a gong show that was!  Only he and two team-mates showed up from his team and they went with another team instead.  Sweetheart LOVED watching the hockey games from up above the ice rink, and it was really cute to watch.  Needless to say, the zamboni was very exciting too.  Oh to be 17 months and be so easily pleased!!

We have had Grandson and Sweetheart here since 5'ish and they are having a sleepover which makes Grandson very, very happy.  Sweetheart did really well last month and I am sure that she will be fine tonight as well.  She was sound asleep in her crib at 8 o'clock and her brother was sound asleep a half hour later.  It was a busy day.  And tomorrow is another one.  Busy, that is.  We have been to Giants games for the past two Sundays at 4, and as much as I love to go watch hockey, I am being grateful that we don't have to go out in the evening.  Church in the morning, and a very special two year old is having a birthday in the afternoon.........we will have to hit the grocery store some time tomorrow, but that is it.  I am breathing a very big sigh of relief.  No definite plans, but lots of chores to catch up on and a few hours to catch up on them.  And yes, if there was yoga class scheduled, then I really would go, but there isn't so I will settle for Monday.  Deep Stretch and Relax.......I love it!

Free concert

We went to see Charlotte Diamond on Tuesday morning. One of the local schools was having a 'Family Event' so we skipped Music Class and went to listen and learn, and sing and dance to one of my favourite children's performers.  The children and I loved it!  I bought her CD and some books and we have been enjoying them a lot!

A walk on the dike

Went for a walk last night and it sure didn't look like this. We were anticipating one of those splendid sunsets that we have been getting, but it was not to be. It was cool yesterday and the clouds never did lift, so Fall was definitely in the air. Cindy and I had a wonderful walk anyway and came back to dinner that Hubby had finished making. Chocolate covered almonds and tea complemented our stir-fry, but it was the company and the conversation that were the best part!

We have a walker!

And I, as his caregiver, am overjoyed! My back and shoulders are thankful already, but I could also be addicted to hot yoga, and that might be the reason why I can carry the toddlers around so easily. Either way, I have no more pain in my body these days and I am very grateful!

At the racetrack

My niece is getting married in two weeks and I went to her bachelorette party yesterday.  Well, I went to a couple of hours of it.  They started off at the racetrack where I joined my daughter, sisters, nieces and friends, and we had a whole lot of fun and a whole lot of laughs. Fascinators or a fancy hat were a must.  Everybody wore the nicest clothes and the greatest headpieces.  I joined Hubby at a Giants game whereas some of the rest of them went out for dinner and on to clubbing downtown.  I had a lot of fun for the couple of hours that I was at the racetrack.

My niece and 3 others were invited into the skybox to watch a race.

So Miracle #3 was one of the lucky ones who joined her cousins and Nadine, and they had a wonderful view and watched the horses with the announcer.  I just had to tell you that this purple fascinator was my very favourite.  Very royal, don't you think?

#3 said that the announcer was so nice and it was so great to be up with him learning about horse-racing.

And they are off!

She actually had the winning ticket for this particular race!!  Woo-hoo!!

Sisters and best friends!

October? Really?

It is Fall. And the nights and mornings are cold, but the afternoons are warm. Like 20 degrees warm. That is how nice it was today and I only had five children to care for. And not all at once, either. My day started at 6am when I awoke. (yes, I really did sleep until 6....with the help of 4 brain calm pills). Children didn't start arriving until 8, 8:30 and 9:30. One left at 11:30, and I took Chase and his cousin to pre-school for 12:30. That left one little 20 month old until 2:20 when we picked up two after-schoolers. We picked up Grandson from his school at 3 and one 20 month old went home. So if you are still counting, that left two after-schoolers until 3:45 when their dad picked them up. Grandson stayed for a little bit until his Grandpa came home and gave him a lift back to his house. It was a beautiful sunshiny day and I just got back from Yoga and have started a load of laundry. I have another very busy weekend planned and am very happy that it is 3 days long! I have a lot to be thankful for....I really do know that. Just sayin'......

Thursday, October 4, 2012

This was yesterday around 2 o'clock. While I went to wake one up, the other one decided to crash on the couch. I love these little two year olds way too much. They make my heart smile.
