Weird Week

It has been one if those weird kind of weeks.  You know the kind.....when emotions are changing all the time and you know that God has your back.  I really don't know why I ever doubt Him, but my humanness still comes through on a daily basis.  It actually started more than a week ago, at the ice rink last Friday.  I left my lights on, on my van when I took Grandson to hockey practice.  And I had to leave early because Hubby and I were going to the Canucks/Columbus game.  So you can imagine my surprise and disappointment when I went out to my van at 4:45 and my battery was dead.  And I was supposed to be home at 5.  Well, needless to say, I didn't make it.  But thanks to wonderful young man in the Planet Ice office, he found some jumper cables and had my van running in less than 15 minutes.  I had already called Hubby and he was on his way to get me, so I actually had to wait for more than 10 minutes for Hubby to arrive (this is one situation that would have been good if Hubby had a phone) and we were back in our driveway by 5:20, ready to go to the hockey game.  We had a great evening out, once Hubby wasn't annoyed with me any more.....Vancouver beat the Blue Jackets 6-2. It was one of the few games that the Canucks won in November and I was lucky enough to be at two of the four.

We proceeded to have one of those wonderful weekends that went by too fast, and we had way too much fun.  Grandson spent the day and overnight with us on Saturday/Sunday and he was as charming as ever.  I often praise #3 and SIL on how well they are raising him as he is such a good boy.  So thoughtful and polite....and very obedient.  We went to Guildford and explored the LEGO store and I can tell you right now that it is way more fun to go to the LEGO store with a five year old.  Hubby and I had been the week before, but it just wasn't the same!

Came home and played for a bit before we went to McDonald's for dinner....Grandson's choice.  He and I met Auntie J at church and before we knew it, it was bedtime.  We obviously over scheduled, as we never did watch Planes or bring up the Christmas tree to decorate.  We went to the White Spot for breakfast the next morning, before we took him home for hockey practice, and then we went to watch him at the rink. I never was a hockey mom, but I am definitely a hockey grandma!

I went to a bridal shower on Sunday afternoon as one of #3's very good friends is getting married at the end of December.  Hubby winterized the yard while I was out, did housework and put up the Christmas tree.  I went to yoga that evening and we called it a night.  Weekends go by way too fast!

Hubby slept in on Monday morning as our clock flipped itself forward.  It has done it before and it is one of those out-of-our-control situations.  Luckily, I had gotten up at 5:15 and it was really 6:15 on the kitchen clock, and Hubby wasn't as behind as he could have been as he rushed and was out the door by 7. Usually leaves between 6:30 and 6:40 and he wasn't late for work....just late for him.

Also on Monday morning, Abby threw up in the MyGym parking lot.  She was absolutely fine when she went to the elementary school to drop off the boys....she was laughing and running down the sidewalk to catch up with her friends.  Then just as I was taking her out of her carseat to go into the gym she told me, "oh, my belly is so full."  And as soon as she said it and I put her down, she proceeded to empty her belly.  Literally. All over herself, the parking lot and my boots.  Thank-you God!  Not a speck in the van.....He was sure looking out for me!  Seriously though, after she emptied her stomach she claimed that she was "all better now" and wanted to go play.  She was very disappointed that I called her Mom to come and get her.....but it was the right call.  She was sick all day Monday, Tuesday and part of Wednesday. Her mom and dad got it too....isn't that nice that she knows how to share?  Lol. No one here got it and we are very thankful for that!

I ended up going to the Canucks game on Monday night, as Corinna wasn't able to sell her tickets.  The two of us always end up with a few sets to sell, just to give other people a chance to see some hockey, and we go to 12 or more games already. It has never been a problem until this year, as they are usually sold out and everyone wants to go.  This year, not so much!  We may end up going to more games this year. Just sayin' no one seems to want to buy any this year.  So far.

And then Tuesday was my sleep-in day.  I actually slept, which is rare for me these days.....and Hubby never woke me up.  He knows that I start work at 6:30 on Mondays and Tuesdays, but he just let me laze in bed until 6:30. And I was sleeping!  I still managed to be be dressed and half washed up before the children arrived, but like most people, I hate rushing!  And then when I was going back to turn on the Christmas tree lights that morning and I was obviously not paying attention, I fell into the wall. Hard.  I managed to bruise my chin and my cheek, and was more embarrassed than hurt, but I knew it was because I wasn't paying attention.  Owie!

My licensing officer made her yearly inspection on Tuesday.  I was sort of expecting her but my friend at Music told me that they are really far behind this year, so I sort of relaxed a little, thinking that it would probably be more into December. Wrong!  She arrived while #3 was here and I was picking up Alex from pre-school.  Which was a no-no because I don't have her on my staffing file.  Got written up for that, and she also found some medication from 2004 in my bathroom drawer.  And just so you know, that was Hubby's fault.  He must have unearthed it when he was looking for hair barrettes for Sweetheart when he was off work a couple of weeks ago.  I mean, it was a child-proofed pill bottle with 2 penicillin pills.  He has totally cleaned out that drawer since she was here and I actually think that the razors and the razor blades that he found in there were probably more of a hazard. Sheesh!  They were hidden under brushes and hair paraphernalia. Again, she didn't see them so they were a non-issue.  Anyway, it is over for another year, but she said she would be back next month to make sure that I comply.  Yeah.....I always do.  I have to make my earthquake emergency kit too, and move some game boxes off of the shelves in one of the bedrooms.  I have to admit, retirement is starting to look better and better every time Licensing shows up.  I know that I won't for a good many more years, but I sure think about it during inspections!

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday went by without more incidents....they were a little bit slow as I didn't have as many children in care.  Probably a good thing!  Miracle #1 came by yesterday and we went to watch Grandson play hockey, and she stayed for dinner.  She is coming to church with me later.....and I think she is starting to feel a bit better with her medication. She still likes to complain about it, and the ACT team is still making their bi-weekly visits, but as much as she claims that it isn't helping, we who know and love her think otherwise.

Hubby has been moving furniture and sorting through stuff in the back bedroom all day.  I went to order my Christmas cards this morning, as I was struggling to do it on our computer last night and it kept freezing. I went to yoga at 11 and then to get my hair done.  I have done some laundry and spent more than an hour doing this blogpost on my iPad. Sorry for making it so long, but there seems to be a lot to say today.  And the more I think about it, I really think that I need to get a keyboard for my iPad. It would just make blogging so much easier.....just sayin'.

PS.  I started this post this morning, stopped for quite a few hours and finished it at 4:55 pm.  So the time below is wrong.  I needed to clarify that, if anyone actually reads the time on this.

Movie night

Grandson's school had a movie night tonight, and Grandson invited Jade to come along.  It was their very first date....and it looks like a good time was had by all!  They watched Despicable Me 2, and even though both of them had already seen it, that didn't matter one bit!

Learning to cut

She told her mommy that this is her cute face!  LOL

It's not just about shopping

Our adventure

We went on a field trip today.....we took the community shuttle bus to the "liberry".  According to Sweetheart, we went on an adventure.....and yes, to a one year old, two two year olds and a three year old, this is exactly what it was.  They were all so excited, and so well-behaved, which means we will probably do it again.  I took three of them last month as well, and they were all really good that time too. (Except Tai did do a header coming down the stairs last time. Today, there weren't any mishaps, but #3 came too, so it always helps to have an extra adult.)

Look who we found at Library Storytime.  He joined us for the ride home and he loved his adventure on the bus too.  He kept telling us, "This is so fun!"

Baby came for a visit after the library...he is 12 pounds 11 ounces.  Wow!  And only seven weeks old.  Isn't he the cutest little chubby guy?  We think that he reminds us of Grandson at this age!

I want one of these!

12 degrees

It was 12 degrees out this afternoon. And yes, that is my neighbour mowing his lawn.  Hubby did ours on the weekend and I would love to say that it should be the last time this year.....but you never know.  I am loving the warm temperature this is hoping it stays this way all of December too!

Food Cravings

I crave salty food.  It seems like I crave it a lot these days. I am not so sure that I want to drink goat milk; but fatty fish, cashews, nuts and seeds sound okay.  I almost bought a bag of cashews on Sunday and then put them down because they seemed extravagant.  $6.99 for a bag.  Next time, I am going to listen to my body instead of my practical side and buy them anyway.

Shopping night

This is where we went last night.  Lots of fun and not as many deals as I remember from last year, but it was still worth venturing out for.  Hubby and I, and a couple of miracles arrived just before 7 and never left until after 10.  Miracle #3 was so pleased that she was ID'd, and very flattered.  Who thinks it is as funny as me that Miracle #4 wasn't?  Maybe it's that Movember mustache, but we all had a little chuckle!  My feet still hurt and as I sit here watching Abby sleep (she arrived at 7:30 and climbed onto the couch and went back to sleep.....she has been sick, so I guess she needs more rest) I do think it is going to be a very mellow morning.  Just one more in attendance today as Jade and Tai have headed to Whistler for a couple of days.  Hmmmm, I decided I want Jade's life right now.  She was in San Francisco with her Mommy last week and now she has gone on another get-away with her family!  Lucky girl!

One month!

.....until Christmas Day.  I think we have beaten a record by putting up our tree already.  It is new, it is pre-lit and it is beautiful. Beautiful, because I did not lift a finger to get it put into my living room, (Hubby did it while I was out at a bridal shower yesterday) and beautiful, because the lights change colours.  Something about twinkling lights that can really bring out the Christmas spirit in all of us.  We still have to put the decorations on it, but it actually looks okay without them. For now.

The boys

My great-nephews are getting bigger by the minute.  See?  I can't believe that Baby is already 6 weeks old.  Like I said to his Mommy on Thursday, when she popped by for a visit, "When you are pregnant, the last 6 weeks appears to go by so slowly......and then they are born and the first 6 weeks of life goes by so fast."  Doesn't really seem fair, does it?

Miracle #2 and his family went to a Fall Photo shoot a couple of weeks ago.  Aren't they beautiful?  I think that Pretty Girl's personality shines brightly in these....she is our adventurous one, that's for sure! I think that her parents shine brightly too.....this photographer was able to capture everyone so perfectly!

7 Keys to Life

Sounds so simple, doesn't it?  It is, if you want it to be.

I live in a beautiful place.  And I am reminded on a daily basis.  Even though it is -3 degrees outside, (and feels like -5......brrrrrrr) this is when the clouds give way, and the view of our spectacular mountains appear.  Monday's rain was well worth it when we can wake up and see God's magnificent creation.  I have to drive for a few minutes to get this specific view, but if it was actually light out when Hubby drives home through Pitt Meadows every day, then this is what he would see.  I can see the mountains from my house, but they are hidden by houses and trees........but whenever we go out and about, my little Tai is sure to point them out. Today is Library Day, so I am sure he will be showing them to me later.

Ten days ago..... was Fall.  Today, it feels like Winter.  Says it was 2 degrees but felt like 0 or -2, depending on what weather source you looked up. The sun is lovely, but the wind is bone-chilling.  I tell everyone that I am a true west coast girl......born and raised in the Lower Mainland......and I like the rain.  I don't have to shovel it and I know how to drive in it.  But it looks like the sun and the cold are here for a few days and I will just have to endure it.  Actually, I posted this picture on Instagram and my cousin who lives in Calgary tells me that it is -25 and snowing there.  She says that I am lucky.  Yep, I love the west coast!!

Today is Children's Day!

I can't decide

Should I choose this one for our Christmas card?

Or should I pick this one?  Decisions, decisions, decisions.....

Who do I look like?

Miracle #3 gets told on a daily basis that Sweetheart is her Mini-me.  And she always tells me that she just doesn't see it.  I do.  But when she sent this text on Sunday, she had a valid point when we can all see that she really does look like her Daddy when he was little.

Here are some of the proofs from our Christmas photo shoot that were taken at the beginning of October.  We had a lot of fun.  I think that it shows in the pictures.  This year, the blessings were very co-operative and it was very hard to decide which ones to keep on the CD.  Here are just a few that we chose........I think that my grandchildren are so beautiful!

My favourite grandson!

Yes, I know that I am not supposed to pick favourites, but because he is the only one that I have, it is easy to call him my favourite grandson. For now. But probably not for always.  But, then again, you never know.  Hubby thinks that we will be getting another boy in March.  I think it will be a girl.  One of us is right, but we have to wait and see.....

But, I digress.  Grandson is five and a half. He weighs 53 pounds and is 47.5 inches tall. He wears Size 6/6X in clothes and he wears a size 1.5 shoe.  He is still tall for his age, but there are a few taller children in his kindergarten class.  He is quite muscular and has really good gross motor skills.  Has just mastered the monkey bars at school and is very proud of himself.  He is also very good at running, skating and throwing/catching a ball. He has very good fine motor skills he printed his name for me the other day and he has excellent penmanship.

As my first-born grandson, he has managed to make himself extremely special in my heart.  It also helped that I took care of him for two years while his Mommy worked outside the home.  No other grandchild has ever spent that much time with me, and probably never will. Hard to say, as I don't know what the future holds, but I don't foresee it.  You can imagine my joy when I was waiting at school for him on Friday (it was his request that his Grandma and Jade come to get him) and I heard him tell his friends as he went by us in the hallway while coming back from the gym, "It's my Grandma and my Jade!"  He was so proud and so pleased and he made my heart smile!  Thank-you Grandson for blessing us with your smile and giggles, your outgoing personality, and your cautious nature.  We love you to the moon and back again!

2 year olds

Miracle #3 and I got together this morning for some two year old playtime.  And the four little ones got along pretty good today.  They had chalk at the chalking table, and this is what happens when two year olds have chalk and brushes. Tai was very surprised when his friend 'Howie' placed the chalk brush on his head.  All in good fun!  He really didn't mind at all and we all had a little chuckle.

I agree

Pretty Girl was 42 months old, 42 pounds and 42 inches tall on October 30, 2013.  As our first-born grand-daughter, she is beautiful, caring, compassionate, and personable.  She fits into Size 5 clothing and is a Size 9.5 shoe.  She loves to play dolls, read books and play with her friends.  Her cousins are also very, very important to her.  About as adventurous as they come, she lights up our world and we love her to the moon and back again.  Oh, and by the way, she is going to be a big sister in March and she is very, very excited!

"I am two and a half!"

Sweetheart turned two and a half today.  Chronologically, that is how old she is.  However, if you know her like we all do, you would think that she is older than she is. I am sure that having a big brother helps, but she knows a lot.  She is a little copycat, and idolizes her brother.  He started French immersion kindergarten in September and now Sweetheart knows her ABC song in French, as well as her numbers up to twelve.  She has known them for a month or more and will happily go back and forth from English to French when asked.

She is a very happy, caring little girl.  She loves to play dolls and princess, she loves books, colouring, and anything 'girly', and she is an excellent independent player.  As much as she loves to see her friends every day, she can amuse herself for hours on end, singing and chatting, playing happily with her toys.  Her favourite colour is pink, and she will tell a matter of fact, she will tell you anything you would like to know.  Carries on a conversation with ease and is as social as her Mommy was at the same age.  She asks a lot of questions and absorbs all of it easily.

She is by far, the smallest of our three blessings at this age.  She weighs 32 pounds and measures just over 35.5 inches tall.  She fits a size 2 in clothes comfortably, but her Mommy has requested Size 3's for Christmas. Her feet are Size 8.5 and she wears a Size 5 diaper. (Yes, she still wears diapers, even though she understands the entire potty-training process. This is her one little thing that she is not wanting to do, even though she tells me every day that she is a big girl. The other day, as she was doing her business while standing in the playroom, I asked her if she would like to use the toilet. She promptly told me, "No thank-you!") Oh, she makes laugh!  She actually makes all of us laugh quite regularly, as she is quite personable and very funny.  Sweetheart, thanks so much for coming into our lives and helping to make our world complete!

She adores her Daddy!

Hubby has been home for five days already, so he is half-way through his ten days off.  Time flies when you are having fun!  He gave his whole day to the blessings yesterday....we took care of Pretty Girl while her parents were working, so that meant that we got a cheery "good morning" at 7am. Grandpa took her to and from pre-school, and he also drove Grandson to and from school as well.  Sweetheart stayed for the afternoon, (#3 and her little ones often come over for playing and lunch after Music class on Tuesdays) and we all watched Turbo in the late afternoon. I really do think that it's one of my favourite children's movies out there.  It came out on DVD yesterday, so Hubby picked it up at Superstore in between pick-ups and drop-offs.

Today is a quieter day at Daycare, but we picked up 3 extras yesterday......just because we can.  I love being able to see the blessings so often, and being able to help out whenever we are able. They truly do light up my world!

And speaking of lighting up someone's world, I just have to share some memories of my friend who got married on Saturday.  I went to Belize with Don in 2004, and he is one of the kindest and most compassionate men that I have ever met.  I am so thrilled for him and his beautiful bride Kristine!

Here are some of the pictures from #3's family photo shoot.  There are so many more, but here are a few that she told me that I could share.  I think that they are all so beautiful!  And yes, I am just a little bit biased....

Remember to remember

In Flanders fields the poppies blow, between the crosses row on row.......

I taught this to the daycare children this past week, we read a Remember Me book and we painted poppies.  I sometimes wonder how much they can retain and understand at the ages of 2, 3, and 4, but I did my best.  Grandson was so excited when he found my book and told me that his teacher had it and she had read it to his class.

Hubby has taken his last week of holiday time this week, and because of the stat, he has ended up with 10 days off. Nice!  Originally, I was going to be low on numbers of daycare children this week as it looked like three were going to be on holidays too, but plans changed.  I am still low on numbers but no official days off.  It's okay, as I will be lower on numbers next week less "work" but not any days to actually go out of town.  Which in the end is okay, because we are heading into the busiest time of the year.  We started Christmas shopping on Friday (I ended up with the afternoon off) and #3 and I went out again yesterday and I am over half-way done.  Cynde and I are going out today, and I should be pretty close to being finished by the end of the day.  It would be a record if I completed it all this week, and with Hubby off work, it is a realistic possibility.  Even though I am working in the day, I am done by 4:00, and that leaves quite a few hours left to go shopping.  We are even talking about going to Bellingham one night, but I am getting such great deals here, that we may not even need to go.  Time will tell.

The weekend has sped by.....we went and found an outlet mall in South Surrey on Friday afternoon, took Grandson to hockey practice for 4:15, went out for Japanese for dinner and then came home and cleaned the house.  I was up early on Saturday (what else is new?!), Cynde came over before yoga and showed us her Europe pictures and now I really want to go there.  Let's face it, I have always wanted to I just want to make it real.  We went to a wedding service at 2..... Our friend from church got married, and it was a beautiful ceremony.  Loved it!  Cooked a chicken dinner before I attended Saturday night church service, came home and watched a bit of the hockey game which was a waste of time as the Canucks lost to the LA Kings 5-1.  Our friend has gone on a California road trip and it was his 7th game he had attended.  His wife joined him yesterday in Anaheim and the Canucks lost that one too. Boo!

We started the day yesterday at Grandson's hockey practice/game, then did a Costco and vegetable store run, and came home long enough to eat lunch and put groceries away.  Hubby did a little bit of yard work while #3 and I went shopping.  He made dinner, I went to yoga and we called it a night.  I was so pleased with myself as I actually made it to 11:00 last night (barely).  I am finally adjusting to the time change a week ago!

Today will be fairly low-key.  I am going out with Cynde for a few hours and it's Family Dinner night so I am looking forward to seeing everyone. Remember to remember today.  I have been doing it all weekend, but it really is official at 11:11 today. And I am profoundly thankful.....

For Better or for Worse

This is rather thought-provoking, don't you think?

One of my very favourite bible verses
It has been a rough couple of weeks. But we have come out the other side closer as a family, and hopefully stronger and more educated.  Learn to discern.  It's my new motto.  Thank-you to everyone for your kind words, your unconditional love and support and especially your prayers.  Glory to God in the highest, for with Him all things are possible.  I sometimes wonder how people make it through life without God, because if I didn't have my faith, then I truly wouldn't be able to cope....
