Gong Xi Fat Cai

It has been a very nice day.  Cold outside, but sunny.  The children and I went to the Library today, and the theme was dragons, not horses.  Dragons are very Asian, but it is the year of the horse.  We all tried to say Gong Xi Fat Cai at was pretty funny, they are all 2, 3 and 4 after all....and we had some Chinese cookies.  They were a big hit with everyone except Sweetheart.

Jade and Sweetheart did crafts while the others slept, Mason came for a visit with his Mommy, and before I knew it, it was time to deliver Sweetheart to her Mommy and pick up Grandson for hockey.  He was especially speedy out there today.

Hubby and I went to the Old Spaghetti Factory for dinner on our way to Harrison Hot Springs, where we checked in just after 8.  We explored the pools...there are 5 of them, open from 5 am to 1am....and they are very relaxing and warm.  The outside air is -1 and feeling like -8 with the windchill, so we scurried in from the pool area very quickly.  We are cozy and warm inside our very old but quaint room, and looking very forward to tomorrow!

For my sisters!

My baby sisters are going to be 50 in less than two weeks.  This is for them.

I love her!

Her mommy asked her to show her a grumpy face and this is what she did!  Her body language is priceless!  She has the most adorable almost-3 year old personality and is way too smart for her own good.  She can recognize all of her alphabet and can spell her name when she is asked. It does help that she has an easy name to spell.  And when I asked her when her birthday was, she told me May and surprised us all, as nobody ever told her....but she obviously listens!  She heard it from someone!

Olympics are coming!

It is hard to believe that four years have gone by since the Olympics were here.  My friend and I went to watch the the Canucks lose to the Blackhawks last night and we were reminiscing. Actually, there was a lot of reminiscing going on, as there was a pre-game ceremony honouring the Olympians before they head off to Sochi.  There are lot of concerns about safety and terrorism this time around, and my thoughts and prayers are with all of the athletes and their families.

Looks beautiful!
For the 1st time ever, all 3 ice arenas are within walking distance of each other

Good to know

We eat quite a bit of these at this house, so it's good to know that we are doing things right. Although I am sure that we could do better!   I actually have really low blood pressure and always have.  There was a point last year that it was lower than it usually is, 100/60 instead of 110/70, and I had a lot of dizzy spells. (Especially at yoga) I am happy to report that it is back to a normal-low instead of low-low, so I feel way better.

Hubby actually takes medication for his blood pressure, but it is the lowest dosage possible. (4mg of coversyl)  He has changed his eating habits a lot in the last couple of years, so I always wonder if it is eating habits or the meds.  Probably a combination. But for now, he will do what works.  He sure does eat a lot of oranges, apples and maybe he should start eating more beets, carrots and sweet potatoes.

My friend texted me this very newborn picture of Louis Phillip, who weighed 8 pounds 4 ounces and was born on Australia Day, January 26th.  Very appropriate, as his Daddy is from Australia.  He was also born on his due date, which is almost unheard of.

There seems to be a run of boys lately, just as there seemed to be a run of girls last year.  #3's very good friend is due with her second baby next week and she is having a boy as well. There are so many people who I know right now who are having babies, and I know that they can't all be boys (there is already one girl that we know of arriving in April) but October, November, December, January and February appear to be boy months.  For me, anyway.

Kid Stuff!

Ways to say Good-bye

3 years 3 months, and 3 months old!

A couple of weeks ago, these guys cooperated quite magnificently for a mini photo-shoot!  I love them to the moon and back again!

Trust your instincts

My friend's greatnephew came home from the hospital on Friday, and is doing really well.  His test results came back and it turned out that he had a virus, and two bacterial infections.  Because he is so little, his poor little body struggled to fight, but needed medical intervention. Praise God for Children's Hospital and all the doctors and nurses who know what they are doing. When little Kane first got sick, his Mommy took him to her local ER and they checked him and sent him home.  Twelve hours later, he was in ICU.  If this Mommy had not trusted her Mama instinct and taken him back to her own GP, who sent him immediately to the hospital, it is hard to think what may have happened.

It is cold and flu season, everyone!  Eat healthy, drink lots of fluids and go see the doctor if you need to!  That is what they are there for, and if you don't feel better after a day or two, then go back.  Even Doctors make mistakes!  Trust your instincts!

All ready to come home from his 8 day hospital stay!

Jolly jumper

He went in his jolly jumper.  Isn't he absolutely precious?

My friends went to Gambier Island for the weekend...and posted some beautiful pictures while they were there.  I don't think that our weekend away is going to be as great as this one, weatherwise, but I sure am looking forward to a little bit of R and R.  Christmas was already a month ago, and I always think that January slows down a little.  Well, I guess it did a little, but it sure went by fast.

We taught Sunday School this morning and we had 14 children instead of our usual 8 to 10.  Makes a difference.  And I had a runner.  One little girl did not want her Mom to leave, so she bolted down the hallway after her.  After she had accepted the idea that she was staying, she was awesome and had a great time.  We all did.  And the African lunch was phenomenal....I had never had African food before and I ate way too much.  It was delicious!  We had lots of fun and fellowship; it was so nice to see some of my friends that I seriously had not seen since before Christmas!  That is one of the problems of attending a big church with 2 it's great when they do these extra social events!

Hubby and I did our chores later than usual today, and even the girl at the vegetable store commented to us that we weren't there at our usual time.  Are we really that predictable?  Um, yeah, we are.  Such creatures of habit.  And as much as I believed that I would never be hungry again after our feast this afternoon, I was quite ready for dinner at 6. Wasn't as good as lunch....just sayin'.  Although I really shouldn't complain as it is the first meal I cooked all weekend.  #3 had us over for dinner on Friday night, Hubby picked up Vietnamese last night and I threw pork tenderloin in the oven tonight.  I don't know why, but everyone else's cooking always tastes better than mine!

No accidents

I agree...

....with most of this.  But really, carrying the firewood at 2-3 just made me smile.  I was trying to figure out who even carried firewood in 2014, but I suppose that there are some people who do.  I didn't say that a 2-3 year old can't.....just wondered how old this list is.  (Even though it has a 2013 date on it) Anyway, it is worth a look-see, and a think-about.

Silent Auction and Lunch

If anyone is looking for me tomorrow, this is where I will be.  I just got back from an amazing church service, complete with African dancers; and Hubby and I will be teaching tomorrow instead of next week because we are not going to be in town.  Typically, we teach on the first Sunday of the month, so just to keep things fair with the teaching staff, we traded with a friend.  Teaching Sunday School is one of my passions, so it is something that I really don't like missing.  Not to mention that I have a lot of friends who are 3, 4 and 5 who I love to see!  Anyway, there sure were a lot of great silent auction items.  I think I will need to bring my checkbook!

Weekend Getaway!

Just 6 more days and we are taking off for a weekend getaway.  And because our weather has been so extraordinary this month, I am not even feeling the need to go anywhere tropical.  It has been a pretty decent January, and as a matter of fact, it has been a pretty decent Winter.  I really don't like the dark mornings, but the days are definitely getting longer.  When I left Planet Ice at 5:20 last night, it wasn't pitch black.  Only 2 more months and it is Spring!  And until then, we will just have to enjoy our almost Spring-like weather!

Feeling so much better!

My friend asked me to pray for her great-nephew last week and I have been praying for this little guy quite faithfully.  He is 6 weeks old today and was admitted to Children's Hospital nine days ago with breathing issues.  He was taken off of his ventilator on Wednesday and moved out of ICU on Thursday, and even though he still doesn't have a firm diagnosis....the Dr.'s haven't determined what he had, but they have ruled out what he doesn't have.....he is doing so much better.  Praise God!

Thought for today

Yep....that's what I do!

All of the women in these pictures used to play at my house when they were little girls.  They were friends with Miracle #1.  They are all my friends on Facebook and it is so nice to see the updates and the photos.  The two on the bottom have been my friends for many years, whereas the one on the top just 'friended' me last week.  It has been really fun to catch up!

My cousin went to Paris last week, and she promised me that she would send me pictures.  Well, she did.  But she isn't in a single one.  Paris is on my bucket is probably the the only European city that I really want to go and explore.  I have a lot more cities that interest me, but this one really intrigues me.  And I don't really know why that this one calls me louder than any other. London, Nice, Venice and Rome look great too, but Paris looks so much greater!  Sigh.....maybe one day.....

Big, big brother!

Grandson is going to be an excellent big brother.  He already is, and he has an absolute fascination with babies.  Loves them!  And they love him too!  I was having some fun with Pic Stitch and this was quite interesting.  The first picture was taken in October 2012, the next one is in March 2013, then it was July 2013 and the last one was October 2013.  Look at how much Grandson has grown up!

And the very funny thing about the next picture of all four babies who have also grown up so much, is that they all weigh very close to the same weight and they all vary so much in age.  Lily is 15 months, Kate is 10 months, Arya is 6 months and Isaac is 3 months old.  And all four babies weigh around 17 or 18 pounds.  Kate is the only one who may be closer to 20, but at the rate that Isaac is growing, he is going to pass all three girls by the end of February.  We weighed him today and he is just over 17 and a half pounds.  Averaging a half a pound a week....growing, growing, growing!

Good Food

Such a nice day!

Today was so nice.  I have to smile at the two weather reports that I clicked on at exactly the same time this morning. The children and I went to the library at 10:15, and after we came home we played outside for awhile.  They had a great time riding the bikes and riding toys, while enjoying the fresh air.  I would just like to clarify that it felt a lot more like 2 degrees than 4 degrees to me, but I don't really know if we will ever know the truth.  Gotta love the forecast for the next three days, that's for sure!

And after the library, Sweetheart went home with her Mommy.  She has given up napping in the last few weeks.....and so this is what happens at dinnertime when you have played two hours at the park.  Isn't she adorable?

My miracles have reached the age that the majority of their friends are getting married and having babies.  I commented to #3 last year that all of her friends have given birth to girls first.  She has another friend due with her first baby in April and she too, is having a girl.  Miracle #3, on the other hand, had a boy first.  Here are some of the cute little girls whose Mommies and Daddies are friends with #3.  Arya is 6 months old, Penny is 2 and Kate is 10 months!

From the time he was one day old, we noticed his amazing eyelashes.  Well, he still has them, and they are still amazing.  Lucky baby!

I love this website!

Every day, Lulora puts up helpful information.  I am not what is considered a health nut, but I do try to choose wisely.  For the most part, I do okay. I never did binge over the Christmas season, but stress in general helps to keep the weight away during November and December.  And being hyper-thyroid certainly doesn't hurt, although it is always triggered by stress.  I made a comment to Hubby on New Year's that in the 34 years that we have been married, I whack out my thyroid gland quite faithfully every Christmas.  Like probably 30 of those 34 years, I have been over-medicated.  You want to know what he said?  "You really need to learn how to manage your stress better." Um, yeah.  Okay.  Much easier said than done!  In the other ten months out of the year, I really do think about the things that I put into my mouth.....and I probably do okay 80% of the time.  Sites like Lulora really help to keep me accountable.

I do this a lot!

My friends and I call them arrow prayers. Short and sweet!

I know that I should have posted this awhile ago, but for some reason or another, I just never did.  Hockey season is over half-way done for five year olds, and Grandson just loves it!  I marvel every week at how much he learns and how well he can skate.  They play a 15 minute scrimmage at the end of his practices now, and they are all so fun to watch.  My little superstar loves to play goalie, but I watched him race to be at center ice last week, just so he could take the face-off.  Go Sharks Go!

Da boys!

Happy Birthday!

I seem to know a lot of people who are born in January.  This very special young man came into my daycare when he was 3, but I knew his family from the time he was born.  He and his brother stopped needing care last Christmas, but I am still blessed to see them 3 or 4 times a year!  I was lucky enough to see him on Friday to give him a hug and wish him a happy day!  It sounds like he had quite a weekend planned!  Happy 12th Birthday to my favourite 12 year old!

Older and tougher

And on that note, I am off to my 5th yoga class in 7 days.  Or my 7th class in 9 days.  Or my 8th class in 11 days sounds even better.  I am definitely getting my money's worth this month!

Yes, it is tougher to lose pounds as I get older, but I am grateful for my thyroid which is hyper right now.  Not because I am an airhead or an insomniac, but because I can eat whatever I want and actually lose weight.  I have lost 10 pounds in a month, and I have been eating like a pig.  But I have also been exercising daily, so that certainly helps!  I just made the best pulled pork dinner....I really have to make it more often, as it is so simple and tastes soooooooo delicious......and don't usually weigh myself in the evening, but stepped on the scale anyway.  I make no sense.  And you know, I really never have, so don't know why I should start now!?!!
