A beautiful day in my neighbourhood

It was a gorgeous day today.  #3 told me that she saw a girl out walking in shorts and a tank top.  Well, that is a bit extreme, but it really was sunny and warm. As long as the wind wasn't blowing, it felt a little bit like Spring, but we all still wore our Winter coats.  The children and I played outside for most of the morning. I really do live on the most perfect street for playing.

There were only five children at the beginning of my day, two more arrived at 11:30, one left at 1, one left at 2, one left at 3, and four left at 3:30.  Corinna picked me up at 4, we went out for dinner at The Water St. Cafe and then we went to watch the Canucks lose to Minnesota in a shoot-out.  It went to seven shooters which was rather exciting but the game itself was only so-so.  I really did have a wonderful last day of February.  Can you really believe that it will be March in less than half an hour!?!

It has gotten to be our routine to take group shots of the children when we come outside.  They are getting really good at lining up across the garage door!  Sweet little 3 and 4 year olds, aren't they?

January

Just a quick recap of January.  I also received a iPad keyboard for my birthday, so I have been having lots of fun playing with my new gadgets.  This was January....minus a few pictures that I have already posted.  Enjoy!

Grandson and I spent an hour or so at the park/school on New Year's Day.  We had a lot of fun and he was an awesome subject!

Skating party on the 1st weekend in January, Daycare friends, Library Storytime and Grandson making his craft from the McDonald's Happy Meal box.

Daycare children, doing what they do best.....Making messes, and playing and loving each other. They all get along extremely well, and they play really well with each other.  Or independently.  Yes, I truly do have a wonderful job!

Abby absolutely loves building blocks.  She spends time doing this at least once or twice a day. The other children enjoy it too, but she is a tiny bit obsessed.  Grandson is playing hockey at the Pacific Coliseum.  He's number 1....in more ways than one, lol.

Crafts.  We did a lot this month.  It is fun to watch them learn and explore.  As much as I don't really enjoy them, I really do understand how important it is that they develop their creativity.

Mistake

Walk to the pre-school

When you are with children, everything is an adventure.  We walked Mason to pre-school and our fifteen minute walk turned into an hour long field trip. The ants and the spiders were plentiful.  So we stopped.  And we looked.  And we observed.  They asked lots of questions and we sang Itsy Bitsy Spider and the ABC song all the way up the street. They would have touched everything if I had let them...but I just don't like creepy crawlers. The church secretary gave them suckers.  And now 4 out of 5 children are sleeping.  It has been a nice day.  It was Mason's dance-a-thon day and he was so excited to get to school!

This a huge anthill that we have passed all Winter. Today is the first day since November that we have seen the ants!

They were fascinated by the spider at the church.  It took a lot of coaxing to get them moving along so that we could get home.

My Thursday/Friday children. It seems so funny to see all the pink.  When we join up with Miracle #3 and her group, it is 7 girls and Tai.  It was nice to see Mason today...it has been over a month since he had come to Daycare!

Happy Birthday!

Hubby's sister turned 44 last month and it is our family tradition to go bowling on her birthday.  We always have so much fun and it is a great reason to have a family get-together in January!

Birthday girl!
My beautiful blessings!
It was Sweetheart's 1st time bowling.............my nephew & my sister-in-law!

His Will

Prayers needed

I know that I always say that my life seems to be passing me by so quickly, but it is so true.  It is already Thursday.  I swear that I just woke up and it was my birthday.  I blinked and three days have gone by.  When I picked up Tai on Monday, he had three bandaids on his forehead.  I asked what happened and was met with a smile and told that he bumped his head on the dresser and was insistent on having 3 My Little Pony bandaids. Typical Tai, and when he asked me to remove them later in the day, there wasn't even a mark or a bruise.

Yesterday was a different story!  He woke up with a fever, and then he had a seizure.  A call to 911 brought fire trucks and an ambulance to my neighborhood at 7:25 in the morning, and I knew they sounded close, but I had know idea that they were just around the corner.  After giving his parents the scare of their lives, he spent the better part of the day in the hospital having tests, and was home in the late afternoon acting like nothing had ever happened.  He does have a slight ear infection and is on antibiotics.....but the seizure was probably because he is so little and his fever spiked so fast.  It is very common, and 5 out of 6 children who have a seizure never have another.  We are praying that he is in that majority!

And this is my niece.  She burned her hand on February 16 while trying to put out a fire caused by burning oil.  It is bad.  She has 2nd and 3rd degree burns, and she had her appointment at the burn unit in Vancouver yesterday.  She is on the road to recovery but is in a lot of pain and needs a lot of prayer. I love her so much and she is constantly on my mind.

It is Winter and there seems to be a lot of people who I love who are sick right now.  This particular virus that has gone through the entire daycare twice is really just a cold....but it seems to go into an ear or an eye infection.  We would all like to be done.  It was DIL's birthday yesterday and she spent the entire day in bed with the flu. Because she is over 8 months pregnant, it makes it even worse.  Her whole household has been plagued with a respiratory tract infection that seems to have come and gone since Christmas. Pretty Girl has had the eye infection and the ear infection that seem to go along with it, Miracle #2 got the eye infection too, and everyone got the cough.

Sweetheart had an ear infection at New Year's, Grandson got the cold and the cough, and #3 got the cold and the cough.  Twice.  She also had the flu. SIL got the cold, but he can take medicine to help make him feel better.  #3 is four and a half months pregnant and she has had to suffer through.  Just like DIL.  And now yesterday, Sweetheart has been plagued with diarrhea, so her mom shut her daycare down for today.

For some strange reason, Hubby and I seemed to have dodged the bullet. He had a cold in mid-January that lasted a couple of days and was done, and I have woken up on numerous occasions with a sore throat, but it disappears within the hour.  I hope that I haven't jinxed myself by mentioning it. But so far, so good and it is almost March!  I figure it was my turn last year.....I must have been sick 6 or 7 times through 2013, and this year is so much better already!  Thank-you God!

Miracle #1 is back in hospital and has been there since February 18.  When we visited last night, it went as I expected, and it didn't go well.  She is very angry, and always takes it out on me, but last night she directed it at Hubby.  I think we were there 5 minutes.  Please pray.  She is always needing prayer, but extra ones never hurt.  Thank-you so very very much!

He's famous!

Hubby checked Facebook when he came home from work today and was surprised to find these pictures on a local newspaper's newsfeed. We both had a good chuckle, as who should we see, but our favourite grandson!  At least he is looking in one of the pictures.  Lol.  He sure looks like he is having fun.....and being such a typical 5 year old boy!  It is anti-bullying day...and his school was promoting everyone to wear pink!

Weekend Getaway

It has been almost a whole month since we went to Harrison for the weekend.  Miracle #3 took some great pictures and now that I have my camera to iPad adapter, it is really easy to share them.

Hubby and Miracle #2.  Hmmmm....they do look just a little bit related, don't you think?
Miracle #3 and my favourite son-in-law!  They started dating on Valentine's Day during Grade 12.  A lot has happened in 14 years!
My blessings....they truly are the best thing that has ever happened to me.  I know that the miracles are wonderful too.....but being a Grandma is so amazing!!!!
We went for an after dinner swim.  Grandson looks so tired....it was an action-packed fun-filled day and I am thinking it was almost 9:30 when we headed up to our rooms....

And this one captures the true essence of Harrison Hot Springs Resort and Spa....very peaceful and relaxing.  He was mesmerized by the flames from the fireplace in the lobby.

Water Play

We had a Valentine's Day party and the water table was a huge hit!  The children played and explored for hours, and it just gave me great incentive to pick some more things up on the weekend so we could do it again.  There was lots of red and pink in February but March is full of green.  Shamrocks, rainbows and Spring....coming up next!

The Poser

The one thing that my miracles and blessings have always done, is have their pictures taken.  It is so different now than it was in the 80's and 90's as we take way more pictures than ever.  And the greatest part about digital cameras is that we all take more than we ever keep.  I delete. A lot.  But it is still not that uncommon for me to take 50 pictures or more at one time.  Hubby gave me a new camera for Christmas and Grandson and I spent some time at the park on New Years Day.  He had a lot of fun posing for me while I learned a few things about my new camera.  We have a lot of fun together....me and my boy!

Sun is back!

The snow is really pretty.  And it has stayed on the ground since Saturday.  I have heard that the other side of the freeway fared way worse, with upwards to 30 cm.  Makes our 10 cm look rather pathetic.  The children all love it and have great fun running and playing.  The forecast is more sun today with a high of 6 degrees.  Means that the snow will probably be melted by the end of the day, but apparently it is supposed to come back next week!

I got a new camera for Christmas and it has around 300 photos on it.  I pulled a few off the other day, and was admiring all my little guys. These are my Monday and Wednesday children. I have three who come Monday to Friday and others who filter in and out, depending on what day it is.  I love how everyone is so accommodating and works with my schedule.  I sure have had a lot of calls lately for people needing Daycare and even though I have the odd space here and there, it always comes down to ages right now.  Mine are all growing up, but I also like to have the seatbelt space too.  If I could, I would walk everywhere, but that just isn't possible. Walking to and from the pre-school is always so fun....and they are all so funny as they need to run up the street as we round the corner.  I love these kids a lot.  And they really are growing up so very very fast!

The Show

A few weeks ago...it was February 5th to be exact....Grandson invited me to his show.  A musical theatre group had come into his school and taught all of the primary classes some Disney show tunes. His class did some singing and dancing to Never Smile at a Crocodile from Peter Pan.  It was fantastic!  He is an excellent performer and he was so fun to watch!

He and his class had to wear green!  He was so excited when I came over to say Hello!

Here is his fan club.  My new little almost-2 year old is sitting in the stroller in the bottom right and they were all excellent listeners.  Mason came with his Mom and Dad and he was so excited to join our group!

And we got going while the going was good.  Grandson's performance was at the beginning and we stayed for a couple more songs after he was done, but with 3 two year olds and a 4 year old, one can never predict what might happen next. It was freezing out that day....like -11 with the windchill freezing.  And all my guys told me it was too sunny to look at me!  You will notice my new guy is looking, or trying to, although he looks a little bit suspicious.  Lol.

Snowy Birthday

I don't actually remember, but I really don't think that it has ever snowed on my birthday. But it did today.  And it was weird snow, because it landed on everything except the road. There was 9-10 centimeters on the grass and buildings, and yet the roads remained clear until 4:00 or so.  And it had been snowing since 7:30 this morning.  Right now, it is clear with a dusting of snow on the road....looking a little bit icy which will hopefully be gone by morning.  Sam and Jen dropped by this evening with flowers and a card and Sam is really hoping for a snow day at SFU.  It has snowed at least a foot on the top of the mountain....she showed us pictures and she might just be right.

I had a wonderful day and am feeling very thankful and blessed.  I was showered with visits, phone calls, text messages, emails, Facebook messages, presents, flowers and cards.  And yes, there were lots of hugs and smiles too.  Tomorrow, #3 and I do Team Daycare and it will be another social day.

Another chance

Every day is a new day, a new page, a fresh start.  Today is my birthday. I am 54.  Grandson always tells me that I am not old.  And he wants me to live a long, long time.  He is really interested in family history right now and wants to know who everyone is, and if they are his family.  And then he wants to know how they are related and how they fit in.  My Mom would have loved his conversations!  Our conversation kind of went like this on Friday when he got into the van so I could take him to hockey practice.

Grandson: It's your birthday on Monday.
Me: Yes it is.
Grandson: What do you want for your birthday?
Me: I have a list.
Grandson: What is on your list?
I told him a few of the things that I could remember, and kind of paused...
Grandson: Could you text your list to my Mom?
Me: Of course.
Grandson: Who is coming to your birthday party?
Me: I don't think I am having a party.  It is Monday though, so we will be having a family dinner.
Grandson: Am I coming?
Me: Yes.
Grandson then proceeded to go through my entire family and ask if they were coming.  And he didn't miss anyone.  He had to pause a couple of times when he had to think of his Mom's cousin's names, but for almost 6 years old, he did extremely well.  By the time we had gotten to the rink we had gone through my family and were starting on his Dad's family.  It probably could have gone on for hours.

I love my family!  To the moon and back again.  And that is a lot of people to love!  I don't really have any big plans for the day as I am working, but I am guessing it will be full of hugs and smiles.  Hubby took me shopping for a much-needed new belt yesterday and a camera connection kit for my iPad. We went out for lunch to Five Guys and #3 and her family made me a wonderful ham dinner on Saturday.  She tells me that she has already made me a dessert for tonight.  It really is going to be a very good day.....Happy Birthday to me!

Thank-you Team Canada!

We have to wait another 4 years for the Winter Olympics to happen again.  I know that there are the Summer Olympics in Rio in 2016, but I really do enjoy watching the Winter ones better.  It was a memorable 17 days.  Loved them!  Thank-you Canada!

The Princess Store and Snow

We went to visit Guildford yesterday and Sweetheart really liked visiting the LEGO store but she absolutely LOVED The Disney Store.  She didn't ask for a single thing, but she went from item to item, and touched it and smiled.  She did find a really cute pair of glitter shoes for $20 that she really liked trying on, but was quite fine with taking them off and leaving them there.  She had so much fun!  But I think that watching her and experiencing her delight was way more fun!

And she really loved the snow too!  It is still snowing. It started yesterday morning, and it is slushy and wet, and not staying on the roads at all.  Looking more like rain than snow right now, but it seems to change by the minute.  Our grass is definitely covered, and it looks very pretty but I am fine with it leaving any time.  I am ready for Spring!

And that's a wrap!

The 2014 Olympics is over, except for the closing ceremonies.  I woke up this morning just after 5, and headed downstairs to watch the men's team defend their gold medal.  It was 2-0 at the time with goals from Jonathan Toews and Sidney Crosby.  It wasn't hard to watch as Canada dominated the third period, and they got their insurance with a goal from Chris Kunitz.  The true star of the entire series was Carey Price who let in a total of 3 goals in the entire tournament. Canada loves their hockey and our hockey teams did our country proud!

And the final tally is in. We didn't do as well as we did in Vancouver where we had 26 medals, but Canada has a lot to be proud of!  I love the Olympics and I am an extremely proud Canadian!!!

A difference of a day

This was yesterday.

This was today.  The snow wasn't even landing on the roads, but it landed on the soccer fields. Mason LOVES soccer and wouldn't have missed his last game for anything.

Another bronze medal!

Today was another stupendous day in Sochi!  We won 4 medals!

And this is the letter that the girls left for the guys in the dressing room.  I know that they were fighting for a spot in the gold medal game, but this is patriotism at it's finest.  Gotta love the girl power!

I went over to #3's this morning and we 'listened' to the semi-final game as we played and attended to our children. I predicted a 1-0 final, but I wasn't really sure as to which team was going to win.  Needless to say, we are all elated with the result!  Now, who is going to get up for that 4 am hockey final?
