A day in the life

Did you know that yesterday was International Coffee Day?  Me neither. Maybe that was why I was gifted with two cups of coffee yesterday.  My friend brought me a cup and Miracle #3 gave me a to-go mug when I picked Grandson up for school.  I felt very blessed.  #3 gave me a to-go mugful today too.  I feel even more blessed.

Today was a crazy day.  So was yesterday.  Perhaps I have a little too much on my plate right now.  Perhaps I am not sleeping all that well again.  Oh dear.....

The words for today are cautious and careful.  I said them a lot.  And I made my 4 year old boys say them a lot too.  And I taught them what they mean and why they are so important.  My boys had an incredible amount of energy today.  And I am feeling like I have earned my yoga class tonight.  I can hardly wait.....Deep Stretch and Relax is my best friend right now!

Princess

Sweetheart picked out her Halloween costume on Saturday.  I think it suits her perfectly.  She really is a princess through and through.  I think it was nice that she gets to wear it more than once....as the children were supposed to wear costumes to Tai's birthday party yesterday. I am sure she will have lots of fun with it this month and many more months to come.  There isn't a day that goes by at my house that the children don't dress up.  I am sure it is the same at her house!

He knows

In my case, I have already had a wonderful cup of coffee, which was brought to me by my very good friend.  She arrived at 7:15, we visited, and then she left for work as she started her shift at 8.  Such a wonderful way to start my morning, and you cannot convince me that our friends were not brought to us by God.  God has blessed me, He has truly blessed me!

I stand corrected

I have bad eyes.  This is a known fact if you know me personally.  Especially at night, and especially if I am tired.  Anyway, Miracle #3 called me last night with a bit of laughter in her voice.  "Mom....Tai is in that picture on your blog.  You have to look really close, but he is in the middle and you can see his feet.  He is behind Superman."  She is right.  I looked at all the other ones that I took, and there he is, front and center.  And if you look really closely, you can see him in the previous post too.  Not very well, but he is there.  I will always need my children to keep me humble.....and accountable.  I really did search that one picture for awhile before I decided he wasn't in it.....and never did look at the others to compare them, and they were so obvious.  #3 made me laugh.....We had such a fun day yesterday!

Sunday Funday

I started out today at church, where I listened to an awesome service about transformation, and spiritual gifts.  Sweetheart came with us and she had an awesome time too, she loved her class, and especially her homework!  Lol.  She has a journal to read and write in, so she is very happy about that!  After church we went to the twins 4th birthday party, where we all enjoyed a luncheon and the children enjoyed a swim and play time.

The twins grandma made them ladybug cakes and they were delicious.....speaking from someone who doesn't really like cake.  I am always awed by people's party decorations. That has never been one of my gifts, so I am so impressed with the special touches.

We literally went from one party to another.  We were at A and A's from noon to 3, and at Tai's from 3 to 5:30.  The purple pirate came to entertain us and we all had so much fun!

Hubby ended up in the show with Grandson and Jade, and they helped the purple pirate out with some close-up magic.  I think that Grandson is worth the price of admission when he watches magic shows.  He saw the purple pirate in the summer and he did a lot of the same stuff.  Didn't matter to Grandson....I think he laughs harder the second time, just because he knows what is going to happen next.  Oh, I love that boy so much!

There was a treasure hunt at the end of his show.....and the children had great fun hunting and finding a box full of chocolate money.  What I find humorous is this picture that was taken at the end of his show, and the birthday boy is no where to be seen.  Too funny!  I really don't know why he isn't posing with everyone because he really did participate. It was a fabulous party!  They both were and I can honestly say that I am partied right out.  And very very full!  Hubby came home and mowed the lawn, and then we went to the grocery store.....he made himself a salad for dinner and I cleaned bathrooms.  I really don't understand why weekends have to go by so fast!

Friends

Our friends headed off to Copenhagen last week to spend time with their son and his family.  Chris emailed me last night, (it was already Saturday morning) and sent these pictures just before they headed off to Paris today.  Looks like everyone is having a splendid time!

So much fun!

Anne sent me a few of the pictures that she took when we went to Osoyoos, so I thought that I should share.  We all had so much fun!

Here I am at Spotted Lake on Monday, and at Hester Creek and Burrowing Owl on Tuesday.  We also went to Oliver Twist, Church and State, and Stoneboat Wineries.

Two of these pictures are taken at Church and State, and then the last one is at Tinhorn Creek on Wednesday. We also went to Rustico, which is an experience like no other!  Each winery has its own unique signature wine, and they all taste and look so different. I tried a few sips at various wineries and came to the conclusion that I still don't like wine.  At every wine tasting counter there is a receptacle to pour your wine if you didn't care for it, and my one friend was appalled that I could use it.  No problem.  I really don't like it, although I did taste a character wine at Hester Creek that I didn't mind and then I had some ice wine in a chocolate cup at Tinhorn Creek that didn't taste one bit like wine....it was like juice.  So even though my friends spent many $$$ on wine to bring home, I bought a few things too.....just not any wine.  I bought some awesome curry sauces from Stoneboat, sparkling pear juice from Oliver Twist and a really nice raincoat from Tinhorn Creek.  We had the most amazing dinner on Tuesday at a little restaurant called Campo, and just had a fabulous three days away.  The Osoyoos Home Hardware is an experience all by itself.....we spent a couple of hours in there on Tuesday morning.  It was such a great little getaway and we discussed many times about making it an annual event!  I love my friends!

#fbf

I finally went out and took a picture of our house with the painted garage doors.  It makes such a difference, as when it was just the trim, it didn't seem to look very different.  In the pictures, anyway. I really like the new colour, and now we need to get new lights and address numbers. It never does end.  Once you are a homeowner, there is always something to do.  And I know that I am a procrastinator when it comes to household chores and duties.  Perhaps we will get it done this weekend.  Perhaps not.  It depends on how motivated we become!

Just over 2 months old!

Baby went for her shots yesterday and she weighs 13 pounds 10 ounces.  She is still 23.5 inches long and her head circumference is 43 cms.  The nurse was very happy with her progress.  She is such a smiley baby, and continues to be 'little' in my eyes.  And I know she isn't, but she still seems small.  Maybe because she is the youngest in our family....or maybe because everyone else who I see is bigger than she is.  I love her to the moon and back again!

Wine country

I didn't have a working camera, nor did I have Internet access when I was at my friend's lake house.  Which, you know, is not really a bad thing.  I took a few photos with my iPad, which are not that great, but they are okay.  I am dependent on my friends to send me what they took on their phones.  This is all that I took......a mere 4 photos.  Not really like me, is it?  But you know, it was just so nice.  And so relaxing.

The best part about traveling with girlfriends is that we didn't have an agenda. My friend and her husband go to Osoyoos a lot.  Like three or four times a month.  But they are never allowed to stop.  And enjoy.  One, because they travel with a dog.  And two, because that is the way husbands can be.  Men seem to want to get to their destinations so they can decompress.

Well, we stopped.  And enjoyed.  It took us 6 hours to do a trip that usually takes just under 4 hours.  We stopped at Starbucks before we left Maple Ridge, which made us all need to stop in Manning Park to use the restrooms. We explored the store and checked out the cabins.....just because we could.  It's really nice there......and I had never been there, so it was a fun adventure.  We stopped at a coffee shop in Princeton for lunch.  We also stopped at a couple of wineries in Cawston, and then just before we arrived in Osoyoos, we stopped at Spotted Lake.  Which was really cool!

We went to several wineries on Tuesday, but I think that my favourite was Hester Creek, where we had the most enjoyable lunch.  Potato and truffle pizza with aioli sounds very strange, but it was so delicious. We also had a beet salad, mushroom bruschetta, with Hazelnut chocolate dessert.  We shared all four dishes, and they were all magnificent.

This is the view from lunch on Tuesday.  The photo does not do it justice at all.  Our weather was warm and cloudy for the entire three days we were gone, and it did sprinkle on us yesterday; but we didn't find rain until just before Princeton and then by Manning Park on our drive home last night.  The weather was wonderful, the company and food was excellent and I arrived home around 9 pm.  It was such an awesome trip!

Having a wonderful time!

Soooooooo.......I don't have Internet access where I am.  And guess what?  I forgot my camera battery too!  So I can't take pictures, and I am completely off the grid.  This was taken in Cawston, on our way here.....and I am now sitting at Hester Creek, just finishing the most wonderful lunch!  I will catch up with everyone tomorrow after I arrive home. (September 23, 2:47pm)

LEGO party

It was a beautiful sunny Summer Saturday.  It was actually hard to believe how nice it was after the torrential rain that came down on Thursday and Friday.  The rain is supposed to appear again today and last all week but I am headed out of town where the forecast is sunny and warm.  Today is the first day of Fall, and all the BC children are headed back to school.  Only for a few hours, but at least they are on their way.

Grandson and Sweetheart had a magnificent time at the Lego Block Party on Saturday. We walked over because we live so close.  Believe it or not, we don't always walk.....but it is only 14 houses away, so it is kind of lazy when we don't.  Time and weather are usually our deciding factors.

There were games and prizes, and the blessings played every one to win candy, play-doh and LEGO. There was a dunk tank and some inflatable activities but we never did get around the corner to participate.

They loved the face-painting, although Sweetheart always chooses to have her arm done instead of her face.  We built LEGO cars in the gym and they raced their vehicles.  Zack gave us the helpful hint to make our cars long and low, which really did work as Sweetheart won 3rd place.  Hubby remembered our years of cub car racing and put weight on the back end which helped too.  He gave his helpful tips to JP when we saw them and so Lucas won a prize in his heat too!  Gotta keep it in the family!

The children all loved the car races.  So much energy and enthusiasm in the gym!  I love how Sweetheart always joins into the activities even though she is so much younger and littler than everyone.

After our free lunch of hot dogs, chips and drinks we went to watch the drama in the auditorium.  We had to see the ending to the cliff hanger from Summer Kids Club, and a great time was held by all.  I love watching Grandson, as he remembered all the songs and participated with genuine enthusiasm.  Sweetheart was so happy to get to come to 'Summer Club' too, as every time her brother went in July, she just wanted to be 6 so that she could also go.  She tries so hard to keep up with him.  It was so much fun and it is awesome for me as a Grandma to be so active in their lives. I love my church!

35 years

We went to an Open House today to celebrate the 35th anniversary of our dentist. Now, I can remember parties from yesteryear, when he used to rent out the movie theatre for his patients.  I can also remember a celebration at his home when the miracles were really little, and this celebration reminded me a lot of that one. Except this one was probably more large scale.

Here he is, Dr Jim with his staff.  A lot of his staff are long term too, and we have gone to see him for almost as long as he has been practicing.  I know that the miracles all went here as children, and three out of four still go to see him. #3 brings her children to see him now too.

We all had a very enjoyable time.....there was a catered barbecue from Big Feast, a beer garden, wine tasting and a tea garden. It was a carnival theme so we had cotton candy, popcorn and mini donuts.  There was live music, a magician, petting zoo and a bouncy castle.  The blessings received balloon art and had their faces painted.  There was a cake decorating contest, henna, tattoos and a photo booth.  It was quite a celebration!

Sweetheart loved meeting the tooth fairy. But I would have to say that her favourite part was getting a balloon ballerina!

Grandson loved playing at the park and in the bouncy castle, but his favourite was the magician.   We watched him twice and he laughed and laughed at the same jokes both times.  We went to see him at the end of his first show and he performed some close-up magic with two foam balls.  We were all amazed!

It was hot today!  Like 30 degrees hot!  Pretty good for the last day of Summer, and we all had a splendid day!

So proud!

Look what Pretty Girl learned how to do today!  She asked for her training wheels to be taken off, and away she went.  We actually ran into her at Superstore today so she was able to tell us her news before we saw this on Facebook.  She isn't even 4 and a half yet, but she can ride a two-wheeler!  It didn't really surprise me.....she has always been very determined and when she makes up her mind that she can do something, then she usually can.  I think it is very impressive!

Party Weekend

We just arrived home from the most amazing afternoon!  Which was preceded by the most amazing morning.  It was a crazy party weekend and I am leaving town tomorrow morning!  A couple of friends and I are headed to Wine Country for a few days....and yes, I already know that I don't drink wine, but they do and that's okay.  I have a couple of hundred pictures that I took that I will blog about at another time....because I have an incredible amount of jobs to complete so that I can get away by 9 am tomorrow.  This is one of the hard parts about being self-employed.  Everything has to be planned and organized....and we all know that I am a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants person.  At least I am when it comes to my job.  Soooooo, I had best get moving!  If I get it all done sooner than later, I will post again before I go to bed, but if you looked at my to-do list, it seems doubtful.  We sure did have a fabulous weekend!

Opening Game

Hubby and I have been out for the last three Saturday nights in a row. I think that is some type of record.  For us, anyway.  We tend to stay home a lot on weekends, as there are always things that need to be done around the house.  In truth, chores are always there to be done.  And we always seem to get them done.  Sometimes, we just manage our time a little better than other times.  Because you know, we all seem to get the important things done.  And if it doesn't get done one day, it always gets done the next.  Or maybe it just wasn't as important as taking a little bit of time for each other.

Cliff Ronning and Garet Hunt were on hand to drop the puck for the two teams.

It was a really good game and the Giants played well.  They came out a little flat in the first period, but the shots on goal wouldn't have indicated that.  They outshot the Victoria Royals 45-12 and the final score was a 3-1 win.

The new dance team are called the Jackettes.  Lame hey? They wowed us with all their dance moves in between periods and they are good performers.  I got a kick out of the five gentlemen who sat directly in front of us, 11 rows down. They entertained us for a better part of the evening.  The more beer that they drank, the more entertaining they became!

Sharing information

I think that this is worth sharing.  For all of my friends and family who still buy diapers, I know that Safeway tends to be more expensive in general, but this is still a good deal!

And this deal is at Save-On Foods.  Just in case anybody was feeling like ice cream this afternoon.

I am going to try this

We just got back from the health food store and I bought a little bottle of peppermint oil for $12.99.  The girl who works there says that it really does work, so ask me in a couple of weeks and I will let you know.  Certainly can't hurt.

I also bought some milk thistle on the advice of my acupuncturist.  I liked him.  He was very knowledgeable and I need to go back a few more times before I can tell you if it all worked or not.  So far, it hasn't.  But one treatment of anything is not enough to fix me.  He looked at my tongue.  Which I thought was weird, but he told me that my body has a lot of heat in it.  Uh huh...I already knew that.  I am either really really hot or really really cold.  These days, it tends to be more hot!  So, I will go back next week and see how things go.  I am optimistic!

Block Party

My church is having a LEGO block party today and I am very excited!  It is from 11 to 2 if anyone is interested, and I can guarantee you will have a good time.  Everything is free, and this is one thing that my church does well is put on a party!  I will be volunteering in the Guess the jellybeans/ Guess the LEGO area from 1 to 2 if anyone would like to come and say Hello!

The Library

We went back to the library today, after taking a good portion of the Summer off.  Sweetheart loves the library.  She was so excited to go, even though her Mommy took her yesterday.  She told me, "Look at me, I am doing a ballerina twirl in the library!"

They all love the puppets.  Sweetheart informed me that her puppets names were Monkey and Skunky.  Tai has Koala and Turtle, and the twins, well, their puppets didn't have names.

We don't usually go on Friday to Storytime.  But after today, I may change that.  Jan was phenomenal, and the children loved it.  So did I!

She dressed up like a pirate, and told lots of fun stories and we sang lots of fun songs.  We all had a tremendous morning!

Always

This is very true.  And words that often come to mind when things aren't always going great are, "it can never be so bad that it can't get worse."   My Mom often said that to me when I was having a bad day, and she was right.  Moms usually are.  Right.

And here is one little blessing who I woke up with this morning.  She slept over last night and I just love our pillow talk when she is going to sleep.  Because I always lie with her until she is sleeping. Some of the things she said before she drifted off were, in no particular order were, "I love you Grandma, I love you to the sun and back again......I love to sleep at your house, because I love you.....We are going to do art tomorrow. That is what Grandpa told me......I like to make bracelets and necklaces you know......I like your big mirror, did you know that your mirror is made out of glass? And glass is made out of sand, I learned that from The Cat in The Hat......I better go to sleep, I am yawning......I love you the most!"  Awwww.....she is such a little love, and a very precious gift from God.  She woke up quite early, for her, as it was just after 7.  And no, we haven't done art yet, as she tried very hard to go back to sleep for a half hour or so and now she is watching Treehouse. I need to go and get her some breakfast, and then I need to get some crafts ready!

Good question

I am off to see an acupuncturist today.  I went off my HRT medication a few weeks ago, in hopes that I would be done with all this menopause nonsense. Well, I am not done yet.  So, I am going to try something new.  I am a little bit nervous, but in an excited sort of way.  Wish me well!

Education

Finally!  The BC teachers strike is over.  It really never made a whole lot of impact on my life, personally, but I am happy that the children will head back to school next week.  They need it!  And we, as adults, need it too.

I have always supported the teachers in their fight.  I haven't read all the issues, but I have read enough to know that things needed to change.  Dramatically. I have also volunteered in enough classrooms in my life to know that this has been an ongoing battle for many many years.

And depending on what you read or who you talked to, one could be swayed in either direction.  Again, my personal opinion on the issues always supported the teachers.  They deserve more than what they are settling for, but at least they are getting most of what they need.

A long time ago, I went to university to become a teacher.  And as you all know, getting married and having babies was more important to me than having a career.  My career was all about raising my children.  They did reach adulthood way quicker than I had anticipated though and if I could give any advice to my younger self, it would be...just keep taking courses. I should have taken a few credits a year and gotten that teaching degree at 40.  I have a years worth of credits at a local university that I was told I couldn't have back in 1998.  So I chose a different path.  Now that policy has changed and I could have had them back.  As a matter of fact, I could still have them.  But I don't want them.  Maybe, one day, but I am having way too much fun teaching and taking care of the babies and pre-schoolers. A few teachers have thanked me for what I do, as I make what they do easier for them.  Because even though I am not a teacher, I really am a teacher.  I have been and will be all my life!

Education is definitely one of my passions. I love to teach and I love to learn. I doubt that will ever change.

This made me laugh.  Out loud.  It is funny, but oh, so true! I often wish that I could be this witty.
