Halloween Fun!

My friend texted me on Wednesday night and asked if she could carve pumpkins with the children.  Needless to say, I was so delighted when she offered.  So she and her boyfriend came over on Thursday morning and had lots of fun with the children!  They even brought me my first pumpkin spice latte of the season!  So yummy!

It will always impress me how creative some people can be.  Corey made the ninja turtle freehand.  I mean, he looked at a picture on the internet first, but he totally drew it and cut it out without a pattern.  The children and I were very impressed!  We love our jack-o-lanterns!

Today, we went to Library Storytime and enjoyed all of the Halloween stories and songs.  Lots of little children were dressed in their costumes, and our little group of 2, 3 and 4 year olds had a great time.

Hubby just turned out the light and we counted 40 trick or treaters this year.  It poured rain all day long, and just after 4, the sun arrived and it has been dry all evening.  Just in time for all of the little darlings to get out in their costumes......although we had a lot more bigger kids at our door than little ones.  A lovely time was had by all!

Happy Halloween!

3 for 3

I went to watch my Canucks play the Canadiens tonight and we won in overtime.  I have been to three games this year so far, and we have won all three! It always very interesting to go to a Canucks/Habs game as I swear that there are more red jerseys than blue ones in the stands.  Go Canucks Go!

Seven months old

Sweet Pea gained a pound and an inch in a month.  She is 18 pounds 2 ounces and is 27 and a quarter inches long. I love her to the moon and back again!

First-timers!

I love the eagerness of first time parents!  I think that this couple is having way too much fun with their baby who is just over 5 months old.  They moved over to the Island at the beginning of September, but they came back to the mainland for a couple of weeks because he had a course for work.  It has been raining a lot since they have been here, so instead of going to the pumpkin patch, they headed over to Funland in Port Coquitlam to take some pumpkin pictures with their baby.  They got some great shots!

And I remember when DIL did this with Pretty Girl around the same age.  Oh, these crafty moms will always impress me with their talents!  Cute baby!  And cute pictures!

How true!

Started early, ended late

We started our Sunday out at the ice arena.  Grandson had a 7:30 am game and he was so excited to see us.  "Grandma, I got up at 6:00 in the morning to come here!"  He loves to play hockey!  And he especially loves it when his family comes to watch.

After hockey, Hubby and I went to church and enjoyed a wonderful sermon on relational health.  I really am loving this transformation series!

We joined #3 and her family at the White Spot to celebrate her birthday.  I love these pictures of her and her three children.  My beautiful daughter turned 32 and 2 of the 3 blessings were more than happy to pose for me!

After lunch, #3, Baby and I went shopping at our local mall while Hubby went home to clean and SIL took his oldest two home to make a birthday cake.  #3 really just wanted some time to try on clothes and look, as she doesn't really get out shopping very much.  We had a great time together, and she got a couple of things but I ended up with way more and it wasn't my birthday.

I made it home with a half an hour to spare before Corinna picked me up for our first hockey game together of the season.  We went out for dinner at Moxie's (I had some great fish tacos, delicious!) and then we waited in a huge line-up to get into the game.  Due to the events in Canada this week (soldiers killed on Canadian soil) we were searched a little more carefully than usual.....I felt like I was in the States.  We were even wanded, which I really had no problem with, but there was a fair amount of grumbling in the line.

The Canucks beat the Washington Capitals 4-2 and we had a wonderful evening together.  I was home just after 10, but I fell into bed quite shortly after that.  Awesome weekend, and it tired me right out!

Saturday

We started our day by going out for breakfast with friends at the White Spot.  They are here from the Island and we had such a wonderful time.  Afterwards, we went to watch Sweetheart dance, which is extremely entertaining.  She is very comfortable in her own skin, this sweet little blessing of mine, and she really enjoys her dance class.  I took a picture of her with her teacher, Miss Emma, because she reminds me so much of another dancer I know.  It isn't that she looks so much like my friend Nicole, she sounds so much like her.  Must be something about being a dancer!

After we watched Sweetheart dance, Hubby and I headed off to the chiropractor, where I needed to be adjusted and Hubby didn't.  He had some aches and pains, but they were muscular, so no adjustment needed.  I would have to say that even though I always need a neck or back tweak, he probably only gets a third of the adjustments that I do.

After our Chiro visit we headed out to Superstore, Langley Farms and Roots, and I think we are done with all of our chores today.  It has been a rainy day, and we are headed to watch Grandson play hockey soon, and then I am going out with a friend to a fundraiser at a local pub.  So far, it has been a busy Saturday and Sunday looks to be just as busy.  It is my favourite kind of weekend!

Our morning outing

We live in a beautiful country.  A beautiful province.  A beautiful city.  We actually headed into Pitt Meadows this morning, which I believe is a municipality........we went for a walk on the dike.  It is a ten minute drive from my house.  Today was a provincial Pro-D day, and it was the first day since September started that I didn't have to play Beat the Clock.  As much as I love my day to day to routine, I really do enjoy my days that I don't have to be somewhere at a certain time.  We had a lot of options open to us today, but we chose to stay local and somewhere where we wouldn't find hundreds of people.  Although it was definitely colder than anticipated, we made an excellent choice!

Here is our little group of Friday children.  I had six in my care and Miracle #3 had her own children plus one.  They were very excited to run and to explore!

We gave the older ones the freedom to run to the next bench and wait for the rest to catch up.  It worked well, and I know that Grandson and Jade could have gone further than we did in just over half an hour, but we also knew that we had to eventually turn around and go back to where we came from.

I think we traveled a couple of kilometers before we stopped for our snack and headed back to the parking lot.  It took my little ones a lot longer to get back than when we were coming.  #3 and her almost 2 year old started back sooner than we did, but that was a long way for all the 3 and 4 year olds.  The only way that I could convince Sweetheart, Abby and Tai that I didn't need to carry them was to bribe them with a trip to the playground when we got back to the van.  It worked.  They were poky, but they made it!

They all love to make silly faces.  And we all had such a great morning out!

Big girl!

Baby thinks she is a big girl!  She went into the excersaucer for the first time and she really liked it.  She is growing up way too fast!

When she first went in, she kept looking at all the toys.  Her mommy kept turning things and making noise.  Talk about overstimulation!

7 Rules

I think that I have posted this before, but I really like it.  I should probably read it every day, just to remind myself.

Believe

Guess who?

It was really important to Grandson to be something scary for Halloween this year.  I think he nailed it.

Outside

I think it is called a murder of crows.  Just after I went to pick up Tai from pre-school on Tuesday, there were a lot of crows which appeared on my street.  In my neighbour's yards before they came up to investigate mine.

Tai and Sweetheart thought there were 14.  August thought that there were 35.  I would have to say that there were over a hundred.  And they entertained the children for almost half an hour.

There were a lot.  They started out at the end of the street, before they ended up at my end.  Back and forth, back and forth they went. It was almost eerie.  And I was feeling extremely grateful for the confines of my house!

I went to an appointment today, and Miracle #3 watched Tai for a few hours for me while I went to Surrey and back.   He was the only one scheduled to come today.  Funny how that works, hey?

Auntie Lindsey gave Baby a new wrap last week, as Sweet Pea has outgrown it.  She approves.  Wholeheartedly.   And her Mommy loves it too.  Doesn't she look cozy?  And so much like her brother with a pink hat?  Lol.

Emotional Health

Our bible study this week is on emotional health.  We have already done spiritual, physical and mental health and I am loving this transformation series.

The sermons have been great, the study journal has been great, and I love my study friends.  I am learning and appreciating His word......but that doesn't really surprise me.  I have always loved to learn, and theology tends to be out of my realm.  However, I have really absorbed a lot this time around.  Never too old to learn, and I really am learning a lot.  Especially about myself!

It was a fantastic weekend!

My weekend started on Friday night.  I went shopping with Hubby, and a couple of miracles and a few blessings.  We only went to one store.....Carter's.......and we outfitted everyone for family photos that are coming up in a couple of weeks.  We had so much fun, and we spent more than an hour there.

Hubby and I headed out of the house just after 9 am on Saturday and we did some more shopping.  This time we stayed local (Target, Monkey Business and Mark's).......and ended up grabbing a very quick lunch at China Kitchen before going to watch Sweetheart dance, and Grandson play in his first hockey game of the season.  I had an appointment before heading into Port Moody for the Tri City Women's conference, between 4 and 10.  Great conference with great speakers and I was very delighted to meet Tamara Taggart.  Bad picture, I know as it is quite blurry, but it is the only memory I have so I need to post it.  She is even more beautiful in person than she is on television.

We started out our day today at church, went to the grocery store, came home and had lunch before going to the Baby and Tot show in Abbotsford.  We scored gas for 108.9 a liter, so that was a bonus.  We bought a few things at the show....I especially love the cookies made out of vegetables....and then we ended up at JD and Krause Farms on this very sunny warm Sunday.  It was 22 degrees and felt like 26 according to the weather network.  Beautiful day, and Hubby mowed the lawn while I made dinner.....I went to yoga and he went to watch Carson play lacrosse just down the road before it started to rain.  It is still really warm out, but raining and it looks to be here for the week. After all, it is October!

I am blessed and grateful

Have a fantastic weekend!

Hair

I love that whenever I see my blessings, they are always well-groomed and their hair is done...well, the three that actually have hair!  When Sweetheart was here on Wednesday, I found these Halloween hairstyles on a blog I was reading and she was totally enamoured by them.  She wants her Mommy to know that she really likes the pumpkin one on the very top left the best.  Miracle #3, what do you think?

Sweet Pea

This post is almost a month overdue, but better late than never.  Sweet Pea is going to be 7 months old in 4 days.  At 6 months old, she weighed 17 pounds 2 ounces and was 26 and a quarter inches long.  I don't think she has grown a lot in the past month, but we will find out next week.

She fits 9 month clothing and has for a few months now.  DIL says that Size 6-12 month clothing from Superstore is getting too short in the arms and the body.  She has developed a lot in the last little bit.  She sits by herself really well now, and loves to pivot and scooch along the floor.  She is doing the 'booty pop' when she is on her tummy but once she is up, she just pushes herself backwards. She is an incredibly smiley happy girl, and popped her first tooth last Tuesday, October 7th.  It is on her bottom left side and I am sure it is just a matter of days before the right one makes an appearance.  Now that she has a tooth, she isn't as drooly as she has been, so that is nice. It has helped a little bit with her sleeping, but she is still up every three hours.  SIL calls it 4 month sleep regression as she was doing really good until she started teething, but isn't as good at it (through the night) as she was when she was smaller.  She started solid foods in the past month and likes all her vegetables and fruit so far.  She really likes yogurt and #2 says that she will eat anything if it is mixed with yogurt.  Smart girl.

She went to the pediatric ophthalmologist yesterday as she has had weepy eyes since birth.  As we all suspected, she has plugged tear ducts.......they are definitely better than they used to be, but she still has goop.  The dr feels that she should outgrow it (her Daddy had exactly the same problem when he was a baby) but she has an appointment in February just in case she doesn't.  Healing prayers are requested....her Daddy outgrew it and hopefully she will too!  She still reminds me a lot of her Daddy when he was a baby, and yet she reminds me of her sister too.  I love her to the moon and back again!

Beautiful babies!

These two sweeties are destined to be best friends.  They are born from Mommies who have been friends since Grade 8.  One born in April and one born in July.  Oh my gosh, they are cute!

Irony

Just think.  I traveled all the way through the mountains to Alberta looking for Fall colours.  All I had to do was drive into Pitt Meadows......oh, the irony of life!

So serious

These were taken on Thanksgiving Monday.  Baby was very grumpy all day and it was almost like she was in pain.  Her frilly dress didn't make her feel any better for the few minutes that she let us put her down all evening.  I love how interested she is in her hands and her fists right now.  It is so cute.

Anyway, she ended up waking up the next day with a very runny nose.....but it seems to have run right through her already as she was back to her happy self today.  Sweet Pea had a really runny nose on Monday too, but it didn't really affect her disposition. The rain is back in monsoon-like fashion, so with it, the colds and sniffles seem to be here too!  They have actually been here since mid-September.....both babies have older siblings so they will both have their fair share, I am sure!

Thanksgiving

I don't need Thanksgiving to make me feel thankful.  I am thankful every day.  I thank God every day for the life than I am in.  And yeah, it isn't always perfect, but I do believe that we need the low parts in our life so that we can feel grateful for the happy parts.  A few weeks ago, I was thinking about boycotting Thanksgiving dinner.  Not for any other reason except that I didn't really want to cook.  And I knew that was a really bad attitude, because I really do love cooking a turkey dinner. It is so easy, and such a great way to feed a large group of people.   I just don't like cleaning it up.  And I don't ever clean up. Hubby does.  So......bad attitude, right?

My fondest Thanksgiving memories are from Harrison Hot Springs.  Our friends usually had us out for dinner at their condo.  There are a few great memories at my Mom and Dad's too, but that is when our children were really little.  Because from the time #3 started soccer in 1990 or 1991, we were always involved in soccer tournaments in North Vancouver. Those soccer tournaments took up the better part of that decade.  So we didn't always have Thanksgiving on Thanksgiving. We usually had a family dinner around the 26th of the month because it was #3's birthday.  And I do remember going to a few Thanksgiving dinners at my SIL and BIL's because it was my nephews birthday.....I also remember that we went to the ABC restaurant more than once.  We were busy raising our children and we weren't always invited either. I can remember that we were told that there are a lot of us.....so it was too much work. At the time, that really hurt my feelings, but all I knew from those feelings is that I would never try and make other people feel the way I did by supposedly having too many children.

Fast forward to 2014.  I had a bad attitude. But it was only because I was feeling a bit weary.  I had an awesome little pre-Thanksgiving holiday, a few meals made for me (thank-you Auntie Bev) and I was ready to take on a turkey dinner.  Didn't even decide to make one until Saturday......and it was just a normal Monday night family dinner.  No muss, no fuss. The rest of the extended family had all made other plans......truthfully I didn't even ask.  I just listened to people discuss their plans on Saturday and Sunday, and it sounded like lots of people were making dinners.

So Hubby and I went out to buy a turkey on Sunday afternoon in preparation for our usual Monday night family dinner.  We had picked up a 14 pound frozen bird that was going to cost just over $37. Yeah, figured that the price had gone up that day.  But as we got to the end of the aisle, we found fresh turkeys for $1.48 a pound.  I am guessing that they were just clearing them out and we ended up  with a 26 pounder for just over $39. Score!!!  It was big, and yes it was missing a bit of skin, but it was delicious and I have way too many leftovers. The miracles were supposed to take some home with them but no one did, so it was nice that #3 and her family were here for lunch yesterday. Hubby and I made a pretty good dent, and turkey bones are cooking so it will end up in the soup if it doesn't get eaten today.  It is all good, and it really was just another ordinary Monday night.

The turkey filled up the entire roasting pan!  And it truly was delicious, if I do say so myself.

And royalty showed up for dinner.  The girls just love to play dress-up, and they were delighted that they were allowed to eat their dinners in their princess dresses.  The wine glasses with juice in them were a big hit too!  Good food, good company and lots of smiles.  Thank-you God for my family!

Always moving

Sweetheart is sleeping overnight tonight.  It was her parent's 7th wedding anniversary and they did their yearly dinner out at Paliotti's.  We took care of their children for a couple of hours, and Sweetheart asked to stay over.

It took her a long time to settle tonight.  She. Did. Not. Stop. Talking.  I finally had to pretend I was asleep just so that she would finally close her eyes and especially her mouth.  I told her it was a good thing that she was cute.  Her response to that was, "Yes I am cute, but I am smart too.  Cute and smart.  That's good, right Grandma?"  When I checked on her a few minutes ago, she kept moving. These pictures were taken in a one minute interval.  She is in a queen size bed.....I don't understand why she has to be at the very edge.  I moved her in the middle more than once, and she succeeded to wriggle herself right back to the edge.  Every time.  Oh my gosh, I do love this cute, smart girl!  She was explaining the solar system to me because her Daddy has a book.  And she likes that Earth is a perfect place to live.  Because she didn't want to live on those icy planets, and the ones that are close to the sun are way too hot because the sun is a ball of fire and they will burn up.  She really is cute.  And smart.  Don't you agree?

Date night

Hubby and I went to the Canucks season opener last night and they did not disappoint.  I have to admit, going to the hockey game with Hubby instead of Corinna is always such a different experience. Not really in a bad way.   Just different.  Corinna and I have a very lackadaisical attitude when it comes to hockey.  Not Hubby.  He takes it so seriously and if the Canucks are losing, he is so annoyed.  It is funny to me, because that is not his personality.  It is a sporting event, for goodness sake, so I just don't really care.  I mean, I care, but not whether they win or lose.  I just want to be entertained.  And we were.  Entertained, that is.  The Canucks came from behind a two goal deficit twice and then the game went to overtime and a shootout!  Couldn't really ask for a better hockey game, and the results were perfect.  For all involved.

Yesterday was one of those wonderful Saturdays that started awesome and ended awesome.  We were up early and had cleaned and vacuumed the house by 9:30 am.  Hubby ironed all his shirts for the week while I finished the laundry, and he was just jumping into the shower as I was leaving for yoga at 10:30.  I had my quick shower before we headed off to the boys birthday parties where we had a terrific family afternoon. We headed downtown around 4:30, which was very smart as there was lots of traffic.  That is always the case when the BC Lions are playing right next door to the Vancouver Canucks.  We witnessed a very great hockey game and I hear that the Lions won too, so it was definitely a party atmosphere in the city.  We ended up coming home via Barnet Highway as the volume was even busier coming home than going down.  Great date night.....just a great day all round!

A celebration

We went to celebrate two birthdays yesterday!  My great-nephews were 1 and 4, and like my niece told me, "I know that I said that their parties started at 12:30, but there are two of them so I left the ending completely open-ended.  Come when you want and stay as late as you like!" It was a magnificent celebration and my great-nephews loved it.  We all did!  I only saw two of my three sisters,  four of my six children, four of my five nieces, and four of my five grandchildren but that's the way it is now that there are so many of us.  My one and only nephew was there.....these are all of my relatives from my side of the family.  (I have one niece and one nephew on Hubby's side too, but that is another whole side of the family!)

As it was, we arrived around 1 and left around 4.  Lots of people, lots of fun and lots of great food!  Thank-you Shannon and JP for another super birthday party.  Your boys are both so loved!  So are you!

I adore this picture of my great-nephew eating his cake!  He really enjoyed himself!  And so did his brother!

As you can see, Baby is catching up to her cousin in size. There is probably only a few pounds difference in them now.   I love how Sweet Pea is trying to hold her cousin's hand, it wasn't intentional but I just thought it was so cute!

This baby is beautiful.  I still can't quite get over her brilliant blue eyes.  She is full of expressions and simply adorable. Just sayin'.

My sister sent these ones to me and they are a little bit dark, but they sure turned out good.  We had a wonderful time at L and I's birthday parties!
