The last week of November

Well, if the next few weeks go by as fast as the past week, then I am in trouble. We started our week at our first Christmas party of the season, and the children loved it.  It would have been nice if the weather had cooperated and not been so rainy but it is November, after all.  They didn't care, but we decided to forgo the hayride as we didn't want to get drenched.

They did some crafts and talked to Santa.  They loved the trees, the decorations and the lights, and a wonderful time was had by all.  We had three little ones who didn't really like Santa, but they were all quite happy to watch him from afar.

Grandson and his hockey team played in the intermission of the Maple Ridge Flames game last night and they all had a great time!  There was a huck-a-puck contest in the second intermission and SIL and Grandson both won a prize.  It was $5 from a local florist and $10 from a local meat store, but they were very pleased!

Baby went for her shots on Wednesday and she weighs 16 pounds 11 ounces.  She has really discovered her voice in the last couple of weeks and she is pretty cute to listen to.  Up until now she has been very serious and fairly quiet, but not any more!   She discovered her tongue on Friday night too and she can blow the best raspberries with it.  She drools.  A lot.  So needless to say, blowing raspberries just makes her wetter.  I think this girl goes through as many bibs as her brother did, and that was a lot!

She is also rolling from back to front.  (She started right around 4 months old)  Which is kinda funny, because she isn't really going from front to back a whole lot. She does it sometimes, but not nearly as often as back to front.  She is growing up right before our very eyes and we love her to the moon and back again!

Pretty happy for 10 pm on a Saturday night, hey?

Sunday afternoon

We really did have a great weekend, starting our Saturday morning with Chiro appointments and shopping.  Hubby and I went out for lunch before we went to watch Sweetheart dance and Grandson play hockey.  We watched a Christmas movie before heading to the Giants game, where they got beat by the Prince George Cougars.  It was an exciting game.....started with a fight and two game misconducts just 12 seconds in.  Gotta love WHL hockey!

We went to church this morning and then I had a Grandma date with my two oldest granddaughters. They chose McDonald's for lunch, and were so excited to be together.  Lots of excited squeals coming from two very precious blessings, and I just love that they think McDonald's is such a special treat.

After lunch, we went to see The Nutcracker at The Act.  They both really enjoyed themselves.  Pretty Girl appreciated the story, being a whole year older than her cousin, and Sweetheart loved the dancing.  Me, well I just loved watching them enjoy themselves.  They are so cute when they are together, and they just love each other so much!  I love them to the moon and back again!

The big toy store

Sweetheart and her mommy went to Toys R Us on Wednesday.  And she was very very impressed!  I love how when she tells me about the big toy store, she gets so excited!  Christmas is coming and she is making her list.  We had fun looking through the toy flyers yesterday, and she and her brother are circling what they would like.  Let's face 3 and 6, they are pretty easy to please!

Lost in a shoot out

Well, I know that all good things must come to an end and I went to my first of the season Canucks loss last night.  And it was in a shoot out.  So if they gotta lose, they might as well do it in an entertaining way.  The Canucks are doing fairly well this year.  So far.  They played pretty good up until Christmas of last year too.  But it really is a different team, different management.......really, you can't even compare them to last year.  They have played a quarter of their season, and at 20 games, they have 13 wins, 6 losses and 1 shoot out loss. 27 points overall which puts them second in the west, just two points behind Anaheim.  So far, so good, and I am looking forward to going again next week.

Happy Children's Day!

Children are our future.  I know that sounds cliche but it is so true.  I spend A LOT of time with children, and I know that some of the things that I do are extremely repetitive and mundane, but they are so important.  Once again, working with children is a lot different than raising them, but I still do help with that as well.  It isn't the same, but it is still important.  I love my job and I love my life, but I especially love that I really do make a difference in the lives of children.  Many, many children!

We have had such a chilly week.  Sunny and cold.  And I know that I shouldn't be happy to see the rain arrive tomorrow, but I am.  It means that when the clouds roll in, then the air warms up.  Here is my Friday group getting ready to walk A to pre-school.  (Her sister stayed home because she was sick)  I think that it is funny that my 2-two year olds, my three year old and my four year old are all very similar in height and weight.  And that Tai can't keep his feet still.  Ever.  Cute kids, and I really do feel blessed.

He's hooked!

We started our day babysitting two of our grand-daughters so that #3 could go and get her tooth filled.  Sweetheart watched Frozen with Hubby and I, while Baby slept just about the entire time her Mommy was gone.  We went to watch Sweetheart dance before going to watch Grandson play hockey.  It was his turn to be the goalie and he loved it.  He was actually pretty good at it, and I am sure that helped make him love it more.  He's hooked!

Sweetheart is always so funny to hang out with.  Always so chatty and entertaining, and if I was going to take a picture of her brother, then she wanted me to take pictures of her too.  She was quite insistent that I take a picture of her and 'Brennis Morrison' while we were waiting for Grandson to come out of the changing room.  Such a funny little girl!

After hockey, Hubby and I went to do our civic duty and we voted for our mayor, councillors and school trustees.  It is a cold and sunny Saturday, and we have a couple of hours before I have to cook dinner and then #1 is meeting us at church.

It's Dance Day!

Our bible study this week was on vocational health.  It was our last week, and next week we are having a pot luck to celebrate our 50 days of transformation.  Hard to believe that my last devotional will be tomorrow. I really did love doing this, and what I loved most is that it was so doable.  I really do believe that out of all the studies that I have done over the past 30+ years of my adult life, it is the only one that I have ever completed.  I did every page of my book.  Homework was accomplished every day.  I never fell behind, and I never felt stressed because it wasn't done.  Glory asked us if anyone had any testimonies we could share with our church family, and I can honestly say that I don't have anything that I could share that I learned. It affirmed what I already know.  It put a different perspective on some valid Christian beliefs, but I am fairly grounded on what I believe is true.  My prayer request for my vocational health was to stop living in the planning and enjoy more of the day to day occurrences.  Hard to do when you live my life, because I am always one step ahead.  I think that I enjoy the little things, and especially the moments, but I need to enjoy while I am living in it.

This is easy

Because I work with children, and because children are a huge part of my life, this is a daily occurrence.  We find wonder in everything we do.

Looking at the positive

Wind. Rain. Sunshine. Cold. Warm. Blue Skies. Gray skies.   All of these are part of Fall.  Just plain old unpredictable.  And Tuesday was a typical Fall day.  And it was Family Picture Day.  Does anyone hear the stress in my words?  We tried.  We had to reschedule four times. For various reasons, but mostly because of the weather.  And we were prepared for the cold.  But none if us were prepared for the 40+ km winds. And we still tried.  But we were all freezing!!!  And we had red faces and drippy noses.

One baby started to cry. Then our 3 year old started in.  Next it was the 4 year old.  But she was only sad because everyone walked away.  A bit comical when you look back, but it was sooooo cold.  And the photographer was so understanding, as we stood in a park in Mission and made the decision to take our freezing bodies home.  And we couldn't even reschedule as she had no dates to reschedule to.  We decided we would go again in the Spring, or even Summer.  Unfortunately, that left us all dressed up and out of luck for Christmas cards this year.

Well, thanks to DIL who is very resourceful.....she got on the phone and started calling photo studios and then friends.  And she found her friend who has a DSLR camera, and she met us in a local park with her two little children and proceeded to click away.  We got some photos, and I haven't seen them yet, but DIL has seen a few and she says that what she has seen are good.

The power went out right after noon in a lot of areas in Maple Ridge, for almost 10 hours. (We didn't lose power at our end of town).  And I hear that the wind was the worst in Maple Ridge and Mission.  I witnessed it firsthand.  Wind.  And bitter cold.  Hubby, #3 and Baby already were fighting colds from last week, so Hubby was cold all day.  He couldn't get warm.  I, on the other hand, was totally fine.  Completely opposite from what we are used I am the one who is so cold or heat sensitive......but this time I was okay.  Very disappointed.  But thanks to DIL, my disappointment was short-lived.  Looking forward to sharing more at a later date!

Sunny afternoon

I live in a beautiful city.  Especially when the sun comes out on the 10th of November.  I worked today, but I only had three children. Jade decided that we needed to go to her school to play.  So we did.  It was a wonderful idea, and we had a wonderful time!

She has mastered the monkey bars.  I wasn't surprised.  She has always been a determined little girl, and she loves to play.  And keeping up with her peers would be extremely important to her. We all had so much fun today!

Princess Party

Miracle #3 was talking with a friend who told her about a little clothing store in Pitt Meadows that gives theme parties for children. They also do superhero parties, so it isn't limited to little girls.  So for $25, Sweetheart got to meet Elsa and Anna yesterday.  She was given a tutu and a cape, she made a crown and an Olaf card, and she sang songs and enjoyed pictures and stories with the princesses.

Needless to say, she had a fantastic time and made some great memories.  Because in her 3 and a half year old eyes, Elsa and Anna were very real.  (Even though I personally think that Elsa looks scary, just sayin').

Stuff I should know

Some of this I already know, but most of it is new information.  And of course, it is ever-changing information.  Hope you all learned something new today.  I know I did!

Little peanut

Baby is 4 months old today and she weighs 16 pounds 1 ounce, and is 25 and a half inches long.  She has been eating like crazy in the last couple of weeks, so we thought she was on a growth spurt.  Not really.  She did gain a little over a pound in a month, but that is pretty average.  She is such a little peanut in comparison to her brother and sister at the same age, but is actually quite big on the percentile chart.  I love her to the moon and back again!

Yesterday and today

I got to spend a few hours with this little man yesterday and he was such a little angel. I think he was a little bit overwhelmed when we went to the library as he just sat on my knee and observed.

But after we arrived home, he was very happy to play and participate, and we had lots of fun.  His auntie calls him Squishy Baby and I certainly know why.  He is sooooooo cuddly and soft!  And quite serious.

We played outside with the riding toys for awhile and he enjoyed the wind.  The big kids wanted to have races, so I lined up the babies too.  For the amount of rain we have had this week, it is actually quite surprising how much time we have been able to be outdoors.  Gotta love warm November days!

We went to the library again today......I always have different children on Thursdays than on Fridays....and we all had a great morning.  After we dropped the twins off at pre-school, Tai and I picked up Miracle #4 and we went to Costco.  He is coming back for dinner and we are headed out for some more shopping fun.

Yes, it can

I have been going to a lot of appointments in the last few weeks, especially in the month of October.  I feel like I am always looking at the inside of a Doctor's office.  They sort of all look the same.

Today I went to the dentist to have a filling refilled.  I didn't even know that a piece of it had fallen out until it was pointed out to me a month ago when I went into have my teeth cleaned.  My dentist told me today that he had originally filled it 22 years ago.  The last cavity that he filled was in 2002.  He also told me that I had pre-natal gingivitis in February of 1985, and that he filled a tooth in 1987.  I have fairly good teeth, as those were all that he has recorded for me in the last 29 years. Can't say that he has made a whole lot of income on me......just my yearly cleanings and a few scalings.  I feel very fortunate to have healthy strong teeth.  But I still hate going to the dentist.  Silly, isn't it?

I went to bi-weekly acupuncturist visits for 6 weeks, and am now only going once a week.  It works.  I still have warm flushes, but they are getting further and further apart.  Besides milkthistle and flaxseed daily, he has added lemon water and carrot juice to my diet. These things, along with being poked with needles have really helped me.  I am sure it is a combination of everything, but I am praising God that my menopausal symptoms are actually going away!

I went to see a plastic surgeon on the 22nd of October.  I have a small benign lump in my calf, that I don't like.  She told me the name of it and it is very common.  But I just don't like it.  The funny thing is that Hubby has one on his calf too, and he has had it for many years. It doesn't bother him.  Mine appeared this past Summer and I don't like it.  So I am trading a lump for a scar.  I don't like the idea of a lump in my body.  Kind of silly, and it was scheduled to be removed next week, but I rescheduled it for December.  I have to take it easy for a few days and December just worked better for me.

These appointments combined with regular day to day stuff have been keeping me very busy these days.  I took on a new baby last week.  Very part time, just to give his Mommy some respite because he doesn't sleep.  He is only 10 months old, and he is very sweet.  He came today for the second time, and I always forget how much needier babies can be.  My great-nephews came to visit today too, and we all had so much fun.  I took them to the library, we came home for lunch, we played outside for an hour and then their Daddy picked them up.  The two babies were really cute together.  And my 3 and 4 year olds loved having them!  Pictures to come!

I love taking pictures. And I love looking at pictures!  When I was at the rink on Sunday, I was supposed to be watching Grandson's hockey game, but I got a little side-tracked.  Sweetheart is my best friend these days and she and I wandered about, making friends.  She ended up in the lobby playing with some older girls who had brought some dolls and ponies to play with while their brothers played their hockey game.  Thank-you Morgan Theresa, Lily Evelyn and Ella Rose for letting Sweetheart join you!

Baby is going to be four months old tomorrow.  She is such a serious baby and no one has told her she is a third child.  She loves to be held and is very cuddly.  These poses were taken on Monday just as she was getting ready to pick up her brother from school.  She still reminds me very much of her big brother, both in looks and personality!

Pretty Girl and Sweet Pea went to the store on Saturday, and DIL posted this picture on Facebook.  Happy little girls!  Looks like they had lots of fun!  I love them to the moon and back again!!!  I think that my children make the most beautiful children.  Just sayin'.

My wish for you

Beautiful Fall Day!

It was 15 degrees today!  So right after lunch, we headed outside and played and played and played. Sweetheart was a little bit outnumbered, but she didn't care.

She found this 'new to me' remote control excavator and it amused her for the better part of an hour.  She kept telling me,"I am so happy."  Gosh, I love three year really doesn't take much to entertain them.  Actually, all of my boys are four except Tai, and they were very entertained too.  It was a beautiful day in my neighbourhood.

From the weekend!

This past weekend was one of those weekends that was very busy and very fun.  I almost need a weekend from my weekend!  Thank-you Miracle #3 for sending me pictures......I always appreciate them so very much!

The blessings had a great time trick-or-treating.  Quote of the evening comes from she and her Daddy were walking on the sidewalk, she said, "Excuse me boys, Princess coming through."  The Dad of the boys looked up at SIL and everyone had a chuckle.  She is so small, and just speaks her mind whenever she needs to.  And she really is such a little princess!

On Saturday

We had a really nice day on Saturday.  It is always fun to go watch Sweetheart in her dance class.  She is so funny!  Always so chatty, and extremely entertaining!

Grandson and I headed out to buy some water at one point.  They were all so thirsty.

I have a few pictures that I took at my Dad's house before my camera battery died.  My sister took some more and I am just waiting for her to send them to me.  I think my Dad looks pretty good for turning 80.  A little thinner and a little grayer perhaps, but he had a really good birthday weekend and was very happy to see us!
