At the end of the day

It was just Sweet Pea and me at the end of my work day. Tuesday's are sometimes like that, whereas I am usually kidless by 4 o'clock. And because it is baseball/softball season, it gives me time to cook dinner and head to the ball field.  Hubby is working his annual inventory late shift so I'm not cooking dinner tonight. I haven't figured out if I am going to make something quick or go out to eat. So while I ponder that, I thought I should share some cute pictures of Sweet Pea. She wasn't very cooperative, but I still think that a few of these turned out pretty good.

She loves to look at flowers. We were looking for bees, and luckily we didn't find any. When she is looking up, she is watching a plane fly by.

Showing me her flower

And scrutinizing it

Isn't she adorable?

She came to sit on my knee and she refused to get off, so I tried taking a selfie with my camera.  This was the best of six or eight that I took. I thought it was not too bad, even though Sweet Pea wouldn't look up and I am not wearing any makeup. I just love her to the moon and back again!

And then her Daddy came. This is taken by Sweet Pea!

The wagon

I have had this wagon for a good many years but we don't use it very much. So when #3 pulled it out of the garage on Wednesday, it became everybody's new favourite toy.

So taking turns has been our lesson of the week. And if anyone knows anything about two year olds, they know that two year olds aren't really that good at taking turns.

Luckily, these were the only two year olds that were here yesterday.  And Sweetheart and Tai had lots of turns in the wagon, but not near as many as the little ones.

I tried so hard to get a picture of the two of them. Even with Sweetheart and Tai playing peek-a-boo behind me, these guys were only semi-amused.

They were sure to look at us, but it took a few minutes for them to actually look happy.

Finally!  One with both of them looking!  Sweet Pea smiled and Baby was on her way.

And then we were done!  As quickly as I got an okay picture, my almost-two year old was done with picture-taking.  At first, I wasn't going to post this, but I think that it's so realistic.  I paint a very rosy picture on my blog........and yes, the good moments outweigh the bad.........but I work with toddlers and pre-schoolers.  They are normal. They have outbursts and meltdowns.  We deal with it and we move on.  The best part about children is that they forgive and get over everything so quickly. As soon as I started to pull the wagon they were totally happy. Oh, I love them to the moon and back again!

Our owl hunt

Our owl hunt started yesterday morning, just after dropping Lucas off at school. The children came home and ran around outside for a bit before the rain began.

Tai was quite sure that he heard an owl in the bush.  Now, we all know that owls are nocturnal and it was highly unlikely that that is what he heard. But it was definitely a noise and it sort of sounded like a hoot.  More like a soft sounding hooooo, hooooo, but who was I to argue with a four year old?  He certainly had all of the two year olds convinced that he heard an owl and we needed to go and look for it.  I think we searched for close to half an hour.....it kept them all very busy.

They had fun imitating what they heard, and they tried to call the owl so that it would come out. Pretty cute kids, don't you think?

Fast forward to today, just after picking Sweetheart up from pre-school.  Tai was still quite sure that we needed to go and find that owl that he couldn't find yesterday.  For sure.  At 3:15 in the afternoon.

Well, they hooted some more but to no avail. And I don't know if you can see the concern in Baby's face, but there was no way that she wanted to find an owl.

She kept saying, "no owl (to)day", over and over and over again. I took her home just after 5, and she was still saying it. She really didn't want any part of finding an owl.

Matchy Matchy!

These two adorable two year olds showed up in the same sunglasses today. So cute! And the funny thing is, is that it isn't even sunny today. They are soooooooo sweet!!

Outside play

Yesterday was another perfect day to play outside.  We even pulled out the parachute.

I really do have the best cul-de-sac.  Even though all of the children are understanding the concept of 'Car coming, run on the grass,' I don't think there was a single vehicle that came by in the hour and half that we were playing.

They all love the sidewalk chalk.  Little budding artists.

More little artists, having fun drawing and being creative.

They are all looking up at the face on the tree.  Can you see it?  Hubby noticed it the other day when he was picking up the mail.

And another face on this tree?

The cows

The cows have been beside the school for the last two mornings.  The farm is really big and they are sometimes out the back, but it has been 30 years since they were out front.

The children are very impressed. They love to stop and watch them.

There is one lone brown cow in the midst of black and white.  The children have named her Chocolate.

Although Lucas has asked on both mornings why there is no pink cow. Then we would have one named Strawberry too.

They have tried to count them. They have certainly made for lots of conversation. If you ask Baby about them she will totally educate you on their bodily fluids. And she will tell you that they are 'stinky cows.'

Books, blocks and hiding

These two friends looked at books for over an hour today while their friends were napping. It made me realize how ready they are to head off to kindergarten in the Fall.  They brought me a bunch to read to them after they had 'read' a bunch to each other.  There can never be too much book-reading in a day!

After Tai got picked up early so that he could go get his hair cut, Sweetheart built a McDonald's out of blocks.  There can never be too much block-building in a day either.

These two just love to copy the big kids.  So they had some fun with the blocks too. So much learning going on.....shapes, colours, letters and numbers.

As I sat back against the wall to watch them play, this little one noticed right away that I wasn't paying attention to her, so she crawled under the table. "Yook at me, Mamma.  Yook at me!"  So I did.  And took another picture. Oh, how she makes me smile!

From yesterday

"Too big". This is what she thought about the turkey.

She took off running across the field when she saw the goats!

And she really really liked them. She wasn't afraid of them at all.

I showed her the emu in the back and she kept calling it a chicken.  And then she would correct herself and say, "No. Rooster."  Then she would look at me and say, "No. Emu."

Cute little 'cheese face' with her Pappa.

She really is Mamma's girl.  We had such a delightful afternoon!

First Haircut

#3 called me this afternoon and asked if I would come with her to get Baby's hair cut.  We both knew that this could be a really good experience.  Or not. One never knows what could happen with a wiggly little almost-2 year old and how agreeable she may be.

Well, as it turned out, she was very cooperative and insisted on sitting on 'Mamma's knee' while her Mommy took some photos. Easy Peasy.  She was sooooooo good.

After she got her hair cut, she also got her first Menchie's experience. And she thoroughly enjoyed it!

Afterwards, we picked up Pappa and went down to look at the plants and flowers that were for sale at a local farm.  Baby absolutely loved all of the animals!

She was very impressed with the goats!  It is a total fluke that all three 'kids' are looking at the camera.

She was so excited to get so close to the goats.  I think we could have stood there all day and she would have been perfectly content.  She has always been our animal lover.

They have an interactive area set up that was sitting empty. Baby loved all the chickens and the eggs.  She was so chatty, and never really ever stopped talking or asking questions. Again, I think she would have stayed there all day if she was allowed.

Such a little cutie!!  She is looking very grown up with her new haircut!

Yesterday was sunny and warm. So unless the little ones were sleeping, we were outside all day.

This one loves hockey. So if he can, he will carry around a stick and a ball. Wherever he goes, the hockey stick or the ball are never too far away.

He hits the ball and chases it all over the cul-de-sac.  And he is pretty good at it for being such a little guy.  Simple pleasures.

My neighbour brought her dog by and my boys were quite smitten. They even took time away from playing cars.

Shay never lets go of her dolly.  And she is usually sooooooo serious.  I was rather delighted that I have a couple of pictures of her smiling.

And this little peanut came to play as well. I am sure that they all slept well last night!
