Halloween 2016

They are feeling better. Sweet Pea is completely healed and Pretty Girl has a few spots left, from their bouts with Hand Foot Mouth last week.

They had fun making jack-o-lanterns with their Mommy today.

They turned out great!  I was given six little pumpkins from a friend, and I actually did carve one but it was pretty lame. I am going to make pumpkin purée and roast some seeds with the rest.

Halloween 2016 was one of our more popular evenings than it has been for awhile. The rain stopped around 3 pm and we received our first trick or treaters just before 6. It was actually still light out, and we turned out our front door light around 8 as it was starting to get quiet.  We had 72 children knock on our door, and some of them were rather large teenagers but that was okay. I will always give out treats to anyone who dresses up or makes an effort. There were lots of little ones too, and an abundance of Asian children this year.  Makes me think that most of all my new neighbours who have moved in this year are from China or Korea. There were sure a lot of cute children out and about.....lots of princesses and superheroes, but lots of farm and jungle animals too!

These two look like they had lots of fun. Wonder Woman and Supergirl to the rescue! They are both so cute!!

Halloween Day!

It was absolutely pouring this morning but I braved the rain and took four little boys on a little field trip across the river.

First stop. Chickens. They were all pretty cautious, and you know, I don't really blame them. Those chickens are quite big when you are only one, two or three years old!

These two boys are only two months apart in age and they get along extremely well.  Brennan came to my daycare today because #3 closed hers to take care of Baby.

Isaac made me smile every time we stopped to look at something.  He kept standing with his hands behind his back.

This was a very fun game. Boys and balls. What's not to like?  They go hand in hand.

I think they would have stayed in this big sandbox all morning. Took me some coaxing to get them to go and investigate the hay maze.

And they really didn't even care about it. It was fun but they would have rather just played in the sand.

We went on a hayride around the pumpkin patch and I think that they were done. We were there almost two hours and it was a great little outing.

Two sweet boys wearing their Halloween shirts. I try to make Halloween Day be very low key at Daycare. It's such an exciting evening that we try and do as little as possible to hype it up more than it already is.  And you know what?  It has stopped raining so I think all the little trick or treaters are going to stay dry tonight. Yay!!!

Happy Halloween!

Beautiful day

What a beautiful October day!  I began my day at church, then we picked up Sweetheart to take her to her brother's hockey game, which was at 11:15. He had a 1:30 lacrosse game in Ladner and we made it there with a few minutes to spare. We took the new perimeter road and it was a speedy way to get to Ladner.

The wind was cold, but as soon as it stopped, it was really quite warm out. 12 degrees at the end of October is almost pleasant.

Sweetheart was so pleased that there was a school playground right next to the lacrosse field. She was very patient and waited until half-time, and then we went over to have a little play.

I stood at the top of this playground structure and had the best of both worlds. I watched Grandson play his game and I watched Sweetheart play on the slides and swings.

She told me that this was like when we were in Calgary. She was right, it was very much like the playground that is at the school at the end of my aunt's street.

And then we walked over to the primary structure and she told me again that it was like when we were in Calgary. She was right, it was similar to the one that was right across the street from my aunt's house. It would be safe to say that they got their equipment from the same place that the Alberta school board shops at.

After fifteen minutes or so, she told me it was time to go back and watch her brother play his lacrosse game. She warms my heart, and as I followed her back to the bleachers she sang and twirled her way back. It was a 7-7 tie and we were able to watch the last few minutes of the game.

Alpha and Hockey

I knew it was going to be a busy day before it even started, and it was definitely that!  I left the house at 8:20 this morning and stopped in briefly around 3 o'clock to use the bathroom and pick up my purse and phone, and just arrived back here at 9:30.

My course at the church was wonderful, and so well done. I didn't realize that this is the very first year that the new videos were being shown. I did the course for myself in 2004, and this time I am supporting #1 and taking it with her. But I am enjoying it for myself as well. I really like all the BC scenery and references. We sure do live in a beautiful province!

Anyway, it was a bit late getting out and I was very surprised to find Hubby arriving at church to pick me up so that I didn't have to walk home in the rain.  I was even more surprised to find Sweetheart waiting in the truck because Grandpa had just taken her to the dentist. It was for her regular appointment, but SIL had to take Grandson to hockey and #3 had to stay home with sick Baby as she came down with Hand Foot Mouth Disease this morning. Pretty Girl got it on Thursday, so it is definitely making its rounds. I can't help but wonder who is next, although I really am hoping that it will be nobody.

It was really fun to be back at the rink.  It's the first time since Spring and we all enjoyed ourselves.

Grandson was wearing #5 today, but I don't think that the jerseys have been officially handed out yet.
And he played on Half Ice instead of Cross Ice, so we were all very pleased about that too.

They played 4 on 4 with the small nets, and they all played hard and fast. They switch ends half way through, and they are still balancing the teams out, but it seemed pretty fair in both ends.

I just love watching him play hockey. And I really love the fact that I am a hockey Grandma!

There were lots of people dressed up at the Vancouver Giants game tonight and these guys made me reminisce about Summer Kids Club. They were more than happy to pose for pictures, and it was a great night all round. Vancouver beat Kamloops 4-1 and it was a really really good game.  It was a splendid day today and tomorrow is looking to be just as good, and just as busy again!

Busy Day

I went to the hockey game last night and this is the view from our new seats. We moved over around 16 seats towards centre ice and it's a pretty good view. Unfortunately, the Oilers beat the Canucks 2-0, but it was actually a pretty good game.  It would have been better if we had won, but it was still a very enjoyable evening out.

I have to be at church at 8:30 until 2:30 today for Alpha Day. There are four movies, breakfast, lunch and snacks involved, and I am looking forward to it. Grandson has a hockey game after that, and Hubby and I have Giants tickets for tonight. It's going to be a busy day!

Sunny Friday

Our day began with Halloween cookies from Finn and his family. They were very yummy, but because he was the only one in attendance today we needed to find some children to share them with. So we went to #3's house and the adults had coffee and the children had cookies. And yes, the adults had cookies too. How else would I know that they were yummy?

They were from Hansel and Gretel's bakery and I would definitely recommend them. As much as I enjoy the smiley face ones from The Haney Bakery, I would have to say that these were better.

We went on an adventure this afternoon!

I kept hearing about this wonderful place for children through Facebook and blogs, so we went to check it out. Finn and I invited Baby along to keep us company and it was all that it was hyped up to be.  It was a perfect place for my one and two year old. Baby loved the hay maze and was so excited to find a 'tractor' in its midst. Finn really liked playing on the 'tractor' but he was very hesitant about going through the maze. Baby just loved it all! And the best part of all was that it was free. We could have gone on the hayride for $5 for anyone 4 and older, but the best part of that is the money for the hayride can be credited towards a pumpkin or a treat in the cafe. We never did do the hayride, but I think I will go back on Monday with my three little ones. It's only ten minutes away from my house.

Two little pumpkins sitting on the pumpkins. It was so lovely outside that we almost didn't need jackets. Note that I said almost.

The pigs were really stinky but they still really enjoyed looking at them.

Baby loved this slide sitting in the middle of the pumpkin patch!

She also loved the corn maze, and Finn was fine as long as we were close.

After school

It didn't rain at 2 o'clock so I decided to park at #3's house and walk to the school with her. It's such a nice little walk and it's the perfect amount of steps for little children.  I started with four children because I had Baby, and she started with two children.  I picked up two little Grade 1 boys, and she picked up two kindergarten girls, one Grade 1 boy and one Grade 3 boy. In case anyone is wondering, we both picked up relatives in that group.

But it takes time to do all that. Five different classrooms for those six children, and you can bet that some are on time and some aren't. For some reason, it was my group that was ready before her group today (which is not the way it usually is) and we waited over by the lamp pole for everyone to be ready to walk home. It always makes me smile to watch how well these children play and care for one another. Again, it's not always the way it is, but it is for the majority of time.

They make my heart smile.....all of them.

And I was in the lead with Preston in the stroller and Mason who wanted to be in the front. When we turned around, this is who we saw.  #3's friend and neighbour always walks with her with her two boys too, so we are quite a crowd. And I changed it up today because our usual way is full of very creepy and inappropriate Halloween decorations. The road is a bit busier this way, but it's not as gruesome.

This house is fun for everyone to look at. They all enjoy looking at this one and I really do think that these people add new stuff daily.

I still think that I take care of the best kids in Maple Ridge. Just sayin'.

And these eight year olds are growing up before my very eyes. Sigh...

At the library

We went to Storytime this morning to check out the Halloween theme.

And like always, I try to take a few group shots. This is Take One.

And Take Two. At least one little person is looking. And hamming it up pretty well too!

So I attempted taking a couple more, as Baby went off to play with the puppets. Not too bad, not too bad at all!

Preston's Daddy spilled something on his costume this morning so he didn't have one to wear. So we went to the dress-up box and we found this little ladybug pullover. He was fine, as long as I didn't put on the little hood.

All of the children participate fairly well this year. It's sure a lot different than last year. Preston is a hit or miss, but he really is only 15 months. Today was a good day.

He did venture off at one point to check out the window blinds. And because Baby knew I walked away, she watched me leave and come back. And as soon as I pointed my phone at her, she smiled and posed. What a funny little girl!

Always posing and usually smiling. And I think that Preston was finally tired enough that he wasn't going to complain about the hood. These guys are just soooooo sweet!
