Summer baseball

Guess who's playing Summer baseball this year?  You guessed it, it's my favourite grandson. He was very excited and a little bit nervous for his first game last night but he did very well!

He starts the season in a local tournament which is a great way to jell as a team and get to know one another. It all only started to come together last weekend, and after only three practices they looked pretty good out there. Obviously, there were some errors.......but it's called mini-mosquito and so it's a level up from tadpole. They are allowed to steal bases and run on overthrows so it's different from the regular season. And it's five innings of pitching......which certainly slows the game down but it was still very fun to watch. They only played three innings because of the time, and Grandson got a great hit out past second base and he struck out on his second time at bat.

He's very pleased that one of his good friends from his class is playing with him. These two have been friends since kindergarten.

They are called the Royals. And yes, his Dad is helping as an assistant coach. It's looking to be a very fun July!  I'm really happy and excited as I just love to watch the blessings in all of their activities!

A morning at the park

My friend texted me this morning and asked me if I wanted to meet her at the park. And so we were really brave and headed to the biggest park in Maple Ridge, with 9 little children. It is the only one that we knew of that would be shady.

And you know what?  It wasn't really as crowded as we thought it might be, and it was really shady. There was a nice breeze blowing, and started to get quite busy by the time we left at 11:30, but it was a good call.

My children stayed together and her children stayed together, and we didn't really see each other except from across each playground, but everyone had fun.

This little three year old was quite intrigued by this stump.......even though he had lots of playground equipment to play upon. Sweet Pea and Preston played on the swings while he climbed on the stump. Preston came over after awhile and tried to copy him, but he just couldn't quite get it. He got himself very stuck in a very short amount of time.

Funny little guy!

Wednesday, continued

They made their own balance beam.

Baby kept saying, "Wings out!"

They were pretending that it was a car and they were going for a ride. These two have great imaginations.

She. Never. Stops. Talking.  Here she is telling me all about Chester at the Aquarium. This little almost-3 year old just needs to hear her voice. If she isn't talking, then she is usually singing.

This little three year old had way too much fun climbing and participating. We learned a couple of weeks ago that we don't have a spot at MyGym for Fall.  They informed us that their classes are filling up and our time slot is no longer available. We are all very disappointed and hoping that another time opens up but it's not looking like it at this point. We are all so sad because we all love it so much. We are looking into other options but it really is the best venue in Maple Ridge for our age group.

Yesterday was one of those days that started out well and ended well. Everyone was in pretty good moods and they all cooperated and played so nicely.

These three cousins make my heart smile. They all love each other so much and it's so sweet to watch their little personalities develop day by day. They are all very good friends.

Baby will often come with me from our school drop off when we head over to MyGym for 9 o'clock.

I love them to the moon and back again!

Five little monkeys swinging and hanging. This was the first thing that they all decided to do as they walked/ran through the gate.

I love Circle Time. Teacher McKenna was leading them while they were warming up their muscles.

Tummy time. They all listen to the rules.....this is something that they do at the beginning of every class.

The children played hide and seek together. One of the teachers was going to go and hide so they all covered their eyes and counted to 25. So fun!

Celebratory week

Sweetheart is having a busy week. She had her softball windup on Sunday and her coaches celebrated their girls. It was way too hot on an acreage in Whonnock, but a fun time was had by all. #3 said that she wished that there were more water activities.

Sweetheart waited in great anticipation for her certificate and candy bag.

She's so sweet! And she looks so happy!

She went on an end of kindergarten field trip today with her class. They went to Lions Park in Port Coquitlam. Here she is having a snack with her friend Taylor.

Taylor's Dad and Sweetheart's Mom were in the same kindergarten class at the same school 29 years ago. These two have known each other since they were toddlers.

Having lots of fun with friends and it sounds like everyone had a really good day. It was a lovely cloudy morning and got sunny this afternoon.

Can you see Sweetheart? She is on the very far left straddling the cement. It looks like her classmates overtook the skateboard park. It's hard to believe that her last day of kindergarten is tomorrow!!

We celebrated two very special graduates last night!

Connor came to Daycare from 2000 until 2006.

And Max also came in 2000, but he stayed until 2007.

And they are still very good friends, meeting when they were just babies.

We are so proud of this young man!

And equally as proud of this young man!

They graduated in a fairly small class of 111 students. Max is taking a year off to travel before he is planning to go to Douglas College in 2018. Connor is heading straight to Douglas in the Fall with a $5000 scholarship, and then he will be going to UBC afterwards to become a sports medicine Doctor.

Lovely morning

It was so nice out this morning. After our little heat wave on the weekend, it turned out to be cloudy and 17 degrees. We took advantage of the perfect play-at-the-park weather and headed to one of our favourites.

Baby and Sweet Pea traded spots this morning when we dropped everyone off at school.

Peek-a-boo you two! Preston was a bit nervous to go up here because you can see through the holes on the walkway, but it didn't take him long to join his friend. You could tell it wasn't his favourite thing to do but she was so encouraging to him.

They all had so much fun playing and running around. Finn and Baby were done long before the other boys, but they all had a great morning!

A request

I had a request from Preston's mom today to send her a few pictures of Preston at Daycare. She was making him a book and wanted to be able to include his friends. More importantly, she wanted a picture of me and Preston......and she said a selfie would be just fine.

She actually requested this of me a couple of months ago because he had been sent to speech therapy and his therapist told them to make up a picture book for him. All she really wanted was a picture of me.......and I didn't do it. I didn't really forget, but she didn't pursue it and then Preston started saying words and I just figured they didn't need it any more. I won't lie....I just really don't like getting my picture taken. And now that a few months have gone by and they have been using photo books, they have been working so well in teaching him words. So, fast-forward a few months and Preston needs more books to teach him more words.

I looked through the past few months and I had couple of dozen or more pictures to send, but I didn't really have a lot of him with his friends. So I took out my phone after we picked up the after-schoolers and we concentrated on taking some Daycare pictures.

He was actually very cooperative and we got a few cute photos. He really likes Baby Aubrie and is usually not very far away from her if they are here on the same day.

Finn is is 3 and a half months older than Preston.

Preston outweighs his friend Finn by almost 10 pounds.

Jade was so helpful with getting the little ones in the photos.

Preston's mom was so happy with the pictures of her little guy and his buddies.

And I did take some selfies, but I am obviously not very good at it because I wasn't happy with any of them. So I asked Jade to take a pic and I think she did really well. But when you have one almost 2-year old on your lap, there is a really good chance another 2 year old might feel like he needs to come and sit on your lap too.  That's what happened today and I was very pleased with the result. Unfortunately, it's not what we were asked for so we will try again another day.

Dance recital

It was Sweetheart's dance recital today. She had a show at 2 and another at 6:30, so she was a very busy girl today. They left the ball field in Albion at noon and had to be in Port Coquitlam for 1 o'clock. We took Baby with us so that she could have a nap and attend this evening's performance while SIL and Grandson headed off to a baseball wind-up.  #3 and Sweetheart spent all afternoon and evening at the theatre.

She wasn't very receptive about getting her picture taken just after 9 o'clock tonight, but they turned out pretty good. She is extremely photogenic.

She is so fun to watch. She knows all the steps and is just the cutest little tap-dancer! And she loves her flowers.

Smiling for Daddy...and the promise of a treat.

We love her to the moon and back again!

Auntie J came to watch her recital.

Family picture. Not too bad for a bunch of exhausted people. It was a very very busy Saturday, starting with a 10 o'clock ball game in 29 degrees. And ending just after 9 pm at Sweetheart's dance recital. The only one in this picture that slowed down for a bit in the afternoon was Baby, and the rest of them were on the go. Everyone was yawning in the theatre.....I am sure that they will all sleep well tonight.

Exciting morning!

Grandson's team made to the finals in their division and they played the Dodgers this morning. It was hot and sunny!

Grandson played an exceptional game.  Here he is hitting the ball out to center field. He got to second base on the play and advanced his teammate to third base.

When he played first base, he was ready and focused. The ball is in his glove and it was an out at first.  I didn't get a picture when he caught the fly.....and it was three out for the other team. The score was 0-0 until the bottom of the fourth inning and the other team hit a run home to make it a 1-0 final.  It was a really good game and it was too bad that one team had to lose.

The Athletics got 2nd place in their division. It was a hard fought battle and so fun to watch.

Grandson received player of the game. He was so excited and so happy!

The sun was in the wrong spot and I have really shaded faces. But you can still see how excited and proud that my favourite grandson was. SIL coached another excellent season!

Again, I was standing in the wrong spot and the sun was shining through the trees. Hopefully, someone else has a better picture. I'm sure there were at least 20 other people taking this. What a fun time!
